QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) A-Row coming back. This is like Van Halen reunion talk. Everyone says it is going to happen. Never does. Have you seen Eddie Van Halen lately? Wish I put him in my Dead Pool cuz he won't be around much longer: Eddie And the Sox have no room for Rowand anywhere! I'd rather see BA out there snagging flyballs and learning how to hit more cuz Rowand ain't getting any better!

QUOTE(greg775 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 04:39 AM) But in Boston or Philly for example, a bad outing or two would result in booing. If Buehrle has a decent season (15 - 18 wins, 220 IP, 3.50 ERA), the NY teams will start with 5 yrs, 75 mil easy. The Cubs would offer 7 yrs, 140 mil though

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) Because there's no reason not to. When the general manager is already making statements regarding next season's free agents then I don't see why the fans can't look to a year in advance. This situation is likely going to impact how the 2007 season plays out as well, it's all connected. I guess if you don't want to discuss the situation regarding the pending free agents on the roster you don't have to but I don't see why no one else should. It's Kenny's job to look 3 yrs down the line, not ours. I, as a fan, am solely focused on what happens in the '07 season so to talk about '08 is a complete waste of time to this observer. In terms of '07 being connected, I won't argue that since it's a pretty simple equation: If the Sox tank, Kenny will dump the pending FAs for prospects in July. If the Sox win the World Series, Kenny will make his plans with the FAs the day after the Series is over. Till then, much ado about nothing in Feb. I applaud Kenny for being honest not only to his players but to the media when cliches would warrant such responses.

QUOTE(soxwon @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) When was your first sox game? Remember any details? Also do you keep score? Sept 7th, 1986, Right OF stands at Old Comiskey Park. Dad took my little brother, sister and me to our first baseball game on the day the Bears opened the season so I know that was a sacrifice for him. But for us, we've been hooked on Sox baseball ever since. Sox won 4 -3 over Tor with Harold driving in the go-ahead run I think.
-
I love the Bears and White Sox equally but I was old enough to remember '85 so the Super Bowl this yr for me isn't as exciting as that '05 World Series. Plus, I do love baseball more than football so that pretty much clinched it for me to pick the '05 World Series.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 03:47 AM) The hotel overbooked and oversold the event, it had nothing to do with the Sox selling extra tickets. Thanks to that debacle, my wife will never go to with me to SoxFest again. '05 SoxFest was an absolute nightmare. Couldn't walk anywhere or sit anywhere without navigating through the ridiculously long lines that didn't exist in previously sold out Fests. Hope the ones that are going to this yr's don't experience that.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) if he's inexpensive, healthy and willing to split time at LF, CF and 1b, it's an OK move. At his age, you gotta figure the guy wants to play on a team that wants to win. He won't gripe about playing time Better to have him around playing part time than Sweeney. Rather see Sweeney finally repeat one level of the minors, improve his confidence and refine this game. Couldn't agree more. He's a better option in CF than Mack is and you hafta have a decent glove for first if Paulie gets hurt or needs a day off. And you figure Sweeney's going to be the starting LF or RF in '08 for either Pods or Dye so get him some playing time than rotting away on the bench in '07.

Best(non-World Series) and worst all time White Sox moment.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jan 20, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) You know, it's recent, but I really can't think of a more electric moment than the AJ homer against the Dodgers--I agree. That was just insane. And he almost fouled out; people forget that--he threw his bat down in disgust but the other guy couldn't catch it. Positively blissful. And in their '59 jerseys--love it. Having said that, his blastoff homer at Wrigley last year was pretty damn sweet too. The moment he hit it you KNEW it was out there--and it was, what a bomb! Worst moment? I know I don't have the history of most here but I'd say the second half of last season. The moment being: when the game was on and I didn't even want to watch it. That's unheard of for me but I was just too drained. Eesh. I remember that worst moment. And Loaiza was just rolling that year--he was my favorite pitcher. That was indeed brutal. I was in that section where AJ's ball landed. I had asked my sister before AJ came up "When's the last time the Sox won on a walk-off?" Then he does that?!? It was sick! The funny part was an 8 yr old girl wound up with the ball and some guy offered her $100 right on the spot for it. The girl was just stunned! And the worst moment part reminds of why I hate the Minnesota Twins so much. Although, it is great to see them choke in the playoffs everytime -
Best(non-World Series) and worst all time White Sox moment.
Allsox replied to ChiSoxLifer's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Best Moment: '03, when Frank hit that GW HR against the Twins on the day when we traded for Roberto Alomar + Carl Everett. Thought they were going to run past everyone after Frank smacked that HR. Worst Moment: Sept in Min when Loaiza took the bump ill and the Sox got swept away by the Twins. I really thought that '03 team could have done something in the playoffs. -
It's a good question as to what a fair deal is for Mark if he turns in a typical Buehrle yr in '07 (15 Ws, 3.50 ERA, 220 IP). He certainly doesn't deserve what Zito got (Not sure what is for a guy that works 35 days a yr) but the market for mediocrity was established at 10 mil this offseason and I'm not sure if that'll go down. And since we know the Sox don't pay for a pitcher beyond 3 yrs, I'd start with 3 yrs, 33 mil with performance bonuses that can make the contract worth 38 mil. But I'm sure the Yankees, Red Sox or Texas would be dumb enuff or desperate enuff to go 5 yrs, 75 mil so I don't see Mark being here past '07. If the Sox are tanking, he'll be gone sooner.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 02:45 AM) Carpenter signed an extension already, he won't be hitting free agency for awhile and the Cubs will likely lock up Zambrano some time during the '07 season. Not sure why Zambrano would sign a deal mid-season when he can make 18 mil a yr easily by waiting. Unless of course, the Cubs sign him to 25 million a yr And thanks to the posters in giving the highlights without me listening to the overpaid hack on the Score.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) I am not so sure that Vernon Wells is not worth the Beltran money and the Sox will give it to him. I think this is a guy you spend big bucks on. I agree 100%. Vernon Wells can be the Sox CF for the next 5 yrs (He's only 27!) and that would be all good in my book. Plays Gold Glove Defense (Which only helps your pitching), hits for avg, can steal bases and will hit for 30 HRs, 100 RBI easily with Comiskey Park as his home. I have no problem offering him an extension of 5 yrs, 75 mil, especially since Thome isn't getting any younger and Dye won't be here in '08. Trading Garcia and Anderson's a good start.
-
I'd go for the trade of A-Rod. If he can hit 47 HRs playing half of them in Yankee Stadium, he'd average 50-60 HRs at Comiskey and would easily pass Hank Aaron within the length of his contract. Sox would sell a ton of jerseys and be in the media bulls-eye as long as A-Rod would be here. Win-win situation for both sides. Thing is, A-Rod wants to stick it up the NYC media's ass and prove he's a great player (Not that he isn't already but the NYC media tends to think it's God when it comes to sports and the fans believe everything they say) so he's not coming here till he proves them wrong.

Jeter's one of my favorite players in baseball but Justin Morneau deserved the MVP. When the Twins made their run, he was providing the O while Santana and Liriano shut the other team down. I hate the Twins but gotta give credit where it's due.
-
I'm also happy about his comment on the "over-inflated" free agent market and that some GMS have the same feeling. Glad to see that the lunacy is being seen and talked about instead of ignored. The real test will come with Zito's and Schmidt's contracts. Hope the lessons of Darren Dreifort and Chan Ho Park still ring true with the GMs out there.
-
No chance in hell of this happening. Plus, Bora$$ has already stated Jones "deserves" a 100 million contract next yr so he's already out of the reality stage of signing. Wish Clint Eastwood could tell Bora$$ what he told Gene Hackman before he blasted his shotgun into his face in Unforgiven: "Deserves has got nothing to do with it." BOOM!

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 04:19 AM) Maybe Uribe is to be included in a package to Toronto for Vernon Wells... That's what I'm thinking now. Toronto needs a SS and a starting pitcher and if the Sox sign AGon, Uribe and Garcia for Wells would be a good start to trade negotiations.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) According to the ESPN Rumor Central (which is an Insider service so I won't post, but if anyone has it, they can confirm), the price that's being bandied about for JD Drew's services is around 4/$56mil. Um...yeah. I don't know what's worse, the fact that he thinks that he can get that or the fact that he probably will. Just as well the Sox don't get him. From reading the Dodgers' board, they aren't lamenting his loss due to the fact the guy needs an off day about every 2 days and is more interested in himself than baseball.
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) I also don't see Toronto trading Wells for Garcia/Anderson. Toronto's got some holes in the starting rotation: Halladay Burnett Chacin ?????? ?????? Garcia would slip into the 3rd slot nicely for them and you know Burnett's gonna be gone for his usual month.
-
Reading the various sites, it seems that the Blue Jays will try to trade Vernon Wells if the Hurt signs with them. With that in mind, how about the Sox swapping Garcia and a pitching prospect for Wells? Granted, he'd be a one yr rental but if Brian Anderson has fallen that far in the Sox eyes, I'd rather trade for Wells than trading back for Aaron Rowand. Whatcha say?
-
No. Offense wasn't the problem this yr, inconsistent pitching was. Plus, BMac gives the Sox some financial room for '07 and beyond. Carl Crawford's a great player but pitching wins World Series titles.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) According to the NY media they don't hang out at all. I read at least 3 articles the past few days which state Jeter can't stand ARod, and most of it comes from his comments a few years ago. In fact, a few writers are really giving it to Jeter now for not supporting ARod publicly when he was booed unmercifully this season, even calling him a bad captain. They pointed out that he defended Giambi with his steroid controversy. The Yankees are a mess, but nothing a few blank checks can't clean up. The writers in NY are a bunch of irresponsible jokes that create news to one up the other so take them with a grain of salt. Jeter leads by example (Only Yankee that hit against the Tigers), he's not one of those rah-rah type guys in a clubhouse that gets paid 200 million collectively. I don't know why Jeter defended that human guinea pig known as Giambi for but I can understand why he wouldn't come to A-Rod's defense. Hell, could you get along with someone that says you're just a comp player like A-Rod called Jeter in '01? I don't think so either. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing A-Rod in a Sox jersey playing SS

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 1, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) p.s. In the Oz interview with Roan he showed manlove for Sweeney and Charlie. It appears Oz never wants to see BA's face again, defense be damned. If Anderson is traded and Sweeney wins the CF in ST, it will be interesting to see what Oz does if Sweeney starts off slow

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) So, is he at least 40% as valuable as ARod? A-Rod got 20 mil this yr so is Joe worth 8 mil? Maybe. But to start at 10 mil off the bat isn't really a good starting pt for negotiations since Jerry isn't as retarded as the Orioles Owner. I can live with a 3yr/24 mil guaranteed deal for Joe. 5 yrs, 50 mil? Um, no.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) You'd get laughed out of the room. Seriously. The numbers Crede has put up combined with his defense at 3B is worth a ton of money on the open market right now. If he doesn't get $10 mil annually from the Sox, he will get it somewhere else, I would bet money on it. Any number Bora$$ gives would be laughable as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Joe Crede but he's not A-Rod and this was his first real yr at producing anything at the major league level. To expect to be paid 10 mil annually for one good yr is laughable.
