QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) It's been reported that the Twins have 3 times as many scouts as the Sox. I don't know if that number is 100% accurate but they're scouting department is definitely bigger then the Sox. My suggestion is that you go out there and increase the number of scouts as well as player development personnel. Make it the same size as the Twins. They compete every year by spending less. They're a lot more fundamentally sound and outside of 2005 have consistenly beaten us in the standings. Now we all know scouts don't make much money. So this isn't a huge expense for the Sox. And if you hire competent enough guys, it's an investment that pays off huge. Bob Hmm, I always felt something was off with the Sox scouting dept when it came to scouting upcoming opponents (Ever notice the scrub players on other teams kill the Sox besides the star players?) but I didn't know they lacked in the number of them. Very interesting pts, although didn't KW say the dept was already on notice at SoxFest?

QUOTE(bkmoney @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 05:41 AM) well north does bring up some good points.. i can honestly say being a sox fan now sucks a lot Granted, the team isn't playing well at all but it NEVER sucks to be a White Sox fan And no, North didn't bring up any good pts. Telling the pitching coach his team is going to "lay down" in the next series is stupid, moronic and completely baseless, just like his show. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 06:18 AM) This team is an embarassment and appears to have quit. Lack of hitting always make a team look like lifeless. They're trying hard but it just isn't working this yr. And this yr's team is far from embarassing. Try any of the teams after the '85 season until '90 for 100% embarassment.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) I haven't had a chance to watch any games recently, but when I read what he has to say - I feel like he's given up on the team. If that's the case, maybe the team should give up on him. If Ozzie's given up on the team, he would have stepped down as manager already. He's got too much pride to steal JR's money by packing it in himself.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) What's your most memorable play of 2005? AJ's walk-off HR against the Dodgers. That confirmed to me the Sox had some baseball magic up their sleeve

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) lets try and keep it positive in the spirit of the thread please. The only positive I get from the White Sox nowadays is when I pop in the World Series video, which is up to 12 times in the last two weeks

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Well, Contreras has a no trade clause, a big contract, and every other major league can see that he simply looks terrible on the mound. So I think he'll be difficult to move. The Sox are likely stuck with that albatross of a contract through 2009. Also, I don't think Masset is very good. He has 4 pitches but little control, his fastball is a mediocre 92 MPH and his WHIP is 1.87 and he has more walks than Ks. If the Sox DL Contreras I'd rather see Floyd called up. I think Konerko's contract was the first one he messed up on. I don't think Paulie's contract is that bad. Now, Contreras' and Vazquez's on the other hand will prevent this team from being competitive in '08 and they'll lose Buehrle because of them. If not for Vazquez and Contreras, the rotation in '08 would be: Buehrle (Re-signed thanks to ditching Vaz 11 and Count 9 from this offseason) Garland Danks Masset Floyd/Gonzalez Winner in Spring Training I could have lived with that rotation next yr than this projected '08 rotation: Garland Contreras (Do they have a choice really?) Vazquez (Again, no choice but to put mediocrity here) Danks Masset/Floyd/Gonzalez Winner in Spring Training

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:31 AM) Jenks is dirt cheap, and closes games at a good rate. Nobody gets rid of young cheap players to put a borowski in their bullpen. Jenks is dirt cheap but for how long and do you want to pay 7-8 million for a guy whose elbow has a screw holding it together? Bobby's good for a contender and the Sox are, sadly, no longer one
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:18 AM) Jenks has a screw in his elbow, and bigger stones than the rest of our relief crew. Trading him would get a lot. But have fun with morons and goofs at the end of the games. Maybe we can have 3 to 4 closers in a season, ride the hot arm again. They just had a stat today, where Boers and Berstein stated we had more closers on this team than any other team since 2000. Think about that before you jettison someone who is cheap and pretty good at their job. I hear ya. But, the Sox won the World Series with Shingo, Dustin and Bobby closing. And the Cardinals won with Izzy and Wainright closing. Granted, it'd be an ideal situation to have a Rivera or Hoffman but that doesn't usually happen and teams usually ride the hot arms of the starters in the playoffs anyway.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:06 AM) I know many here would consider it blasphemous, but I'd trade Jenks for much the same reason. Considering his past injury history, his weight, and his drop in velocity, his future status within this organization worries me. You want to talk about selling high? With someone under contract for quite a while with previous success and a (still) decent fastball/curve combination? There's no question he'll lend us quite a return. Yes, he's one of the two most dependable arms in the bullpen. The question you have to ask yourself is whether the White Sox have an opportunity to compete next season. Most wouldn't think so. So, then why waste Jenks on this team when he could help solidfy our INF or OF? Perhaps bring in a SP prospect. I'll take my chances with MacDougal, Logan, Thornton, O.Perez, Day, Aardsma, etc. Bullpens notoriously overturn themselves season to season. Good seasons may come out of nowhere (Politte/Cotts). Better to sell high, for once. I agree as well. Doesn't Bobby have a screw in his elbow as well? Thought I read that someplace a while back. To me, Aardsma is the future closer once he gets a little seasoning on his offspeed stuff.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:48 AM) Decent stuff? He has great stuff, probably the best on the White Sox. But you're right, his downfall has been his lack of "fire" and very questionable pitch selections. I also wouldn't say he has no heart as he busts his ass day in and day out. I have heard nothing but great things about his work ethic. For 11 million, he better be busting his ass day in, day out. Too bad that work ethic doesn't translate every 5th day.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) So Vazquez is not a good pitcher? No. He may have "decent" stuff (Even that is debatable) but he has zero heart, zero brains and zero courage when he takes that mound and Don Cooper doesn't have anything in his bag of wizardry to help this Judy out.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:25 AM) And he is a good pitcher. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, good one! Oh wait, you're serious?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:14 AM) If we lose with Buehrle on the mound, I'd rather it be because he pitched bad. I luv to see Mark Buehrle in a White Sox uni for life but that stupid-ass extension they just gave for that pile of garbage called Vazquez pretty much nulled any extension for Mark. KW will lament that Vaz trade for a loooooong time cuz he inadvertently sacrificed his best lefty and Chris Young would look pretty decent in CF right now.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) which is a shame. I use sports as an escape, and I was hoping that the Sox would play meaningful games all summer, but at this pace and the way they look on the field, I have a hard time seeing that happening No worries, Bears training camp opens in July

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) The one positive of the night is MB. Great game. Hopefully all the starters follow suit. The good thing is Buehrle upped his trade value for the firesale that's coming sooner than later.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:03 AM) I'd rather see Sweeney come up and end the Mack/Terrero experience and BA in center. Let's move on with this franchise. Amen! I luv the Hawkeroo but hearing him say the 2 - 0 loss was nothing compared to the loss of Erstad made me puke I respect Erstad and his grindness but him getting hurt is as shocking as hearing Lindsay Lohan is going to rehab.

Putting This One Right Where It Belongs -- On Kenny Williams

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 31, 2007 -> 01:52 AM) Some of Guillen's remarks post game: "They compete as a team. They get you as a team, and that's why they win," said Guillen, who alternated between blaming himself and criticizing his players throughout his postgame remarks. Guillen has long been impressed by the Twins, who sped by the slumping White Sox last summer on the way to their fourth division title in the last five years. But he pinned most of the afternoon's performance on the visiting team. "Offense, defense, pitching, manager, coaches, we all stink," Guillen said. In addition, Aardsma described his brief outing as "pathetic". No argument there. Good quotes. But I'm tired of the praising of the Twins. Yeah, they've been in the playoffs 4 outta 5 times but there's no friggin rings to show for it. They depend mostly on the other team beating themselves and it's been proven every postseason they've been in. So let's stop the ass-kissing of the "mighty" Twins and start kicking their ass for once. -
Even Ozzie didn't expect Logan to get out Morneau since Aardsma wasn't ready. Million bucks AJ calls for fastballs outside, Aardsma hits the spot and Hunter goes the opposite way to win the game. Takers?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) How about this. Hit the f***ing ball. If you get RISP late in the game, do not try and hit the majestic home run. Put the ball in play and make something happen. Dont run the bases like you are 2 years old and lost at the mall. Catch the f***ing ball. Attack the hitters from a pitching perspective. Man up, and throw strikes. Attack the hitters, how about a novel idea and pound the ball inside. Why do our hard throwing guys, go away away away. Here is a clue, you are not facing the whitesox. When you throw hard, go in. Dont throw something away that can tail over the plate for a dong. Just f***ing win. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Make 'em hit with their thumbs on a fastball and make 'em look foolish on the breaking stuff away!

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) The Twinkies know how to use the hole they call home to win. We don't know how to adjust when the hitters struggle. Contreras is susceptible to melt downs from time to time and makes his problems worse. Plus we have a bullpen that can't get the big outs when needed right now. They can't hit the strike zone, groove the ball and fail to get the first batter out. Hopefully it will change soon. It usually is a matter of streaks some good some bad. Right now we are bad. But, if we turn around ansd win the next 2 games this will have been a susccesful visit to MPLS. Right on. The Metrodome had nothing to do with Contreras' piss poor pitching. Hitting a guy with two outs, nobody on and 1 - 2 count like he did with Barlett is just plain bad. And with Aardsma, it's driving me insane that a guy with his fastball is being asked by his catcher and his pitching coach to spot it on the outside corner Pound the inside part of the plate and throw the breaking stuff away sounds like a good gameplan to me with Aardsma's stuff.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 23, 2007 -> 01:23 AM) I wouldn't be so sure. Granted, it's against a AAA pitcher tonight but the Sox started bashing the ball Sun against Zambrano and lit up Joe Blanton who's no slouch either. Me likey
-
I laughed when AJ said he and Mark should talk about this in the clubhouse. This coming from a guy who told a media hack he was disappointed in not starting instead of talking to his manager first about it.
-
Meh, not Aardsma's fault. AJ set up away, Aardsma hit the spot and the Cubs hit it down the wide lines at Wrigley. Tip of the cap to the Cub hitters for knowing how to hit in their ballpark. If AJ set up inside and he threw it outside, OK, go ahead and b****. But don't blame Aardsma, blame the bad set-up behind home plate. BTW, if the Cubs win this game, there's another one to play tomorrow. This isn't the World Series so stop taking it so hard that we lose to the Cubs. Who the hell are the Cubs and their fans to get so agitated about? I hate seeing the Sox lose series but they're going to in a 162 game schedule.
-
Didn't Pagan light up the Sox last yr at the Urinal? Everyone in the NL gets this guy out but the White Sox. And now McDougal throws a wild pitch and a base hit. Hey Ozzie, ENUFF'S ENUFF OF THIS CLOWN!

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 18, 2007 -> 07:18 PM) why is terrero still on this team? sweeney should start regardless Ozzie said Terrero's speed is crucial to this team and he can play some CF too Way to strand Ramirez, Mark!
