    Ozzie

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 18, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Because this just created more interest in North, the Score and the Score's website than there was before his show this morning. North has pretty much nothing to lose by creating a situation where they may not be one. North pretty much did his job this morning, why do you think he makes 7 figures? Don't get me started about that douchebag's salary. Because of it, the Score couldn't throw anything but peanuts to John Rooney after the '05 season, hence, losing one of the greatest play-by-play announcers this town ever had. I will always blame Mike North for that loss and nothing anybody says will convince me otherwise.
  2. QUOTE(BainesHOF @ May 18, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) The preoccupation of Sox fans with the Cubs is an ongoing embarrassment on the South Side. Agree 100%. Also, the hype that goes into the Cubs series is completely overblown and unnecessary (Such as the Sun-Times having a 16 page pullout on it today). When the White Sox were in the World Series, the last thing in my mind was how they did in the Cubs series. And when they won it, again, the Cub series was the last thing on my mind.

    Ozzie

I just heard the quick rehash on it and I'm behind Ozzie on this one. His first statement to North of "Shut the $%@& up" was appropriate given the fact North was making something out of nothing. If AJ's disappointed in not starting today, good! I'd of been surprised if AJ didn't say he was. But why is it news to North that AJ's not playing today given the fact the Sox hafta know if Hall can play? The sickening part of it though was North telling Ozzie don't talk down to him. This from a guy who makes "suggestive" comments to the females that work on his terrible show.
  4. Good hit by Mack but Ozuna was sleeping at the wheel and cost us a chance to tie the game. Dammit! Didn't Ozuna see Erstad couldn't move up because of Cabrera's arm? And Ozzie shouldn't be swearing about it, he's the one who started him tonight.
  5. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) Please no more Ozzie apologists. You cannot defend him anymore. He tries to play the matchups game and wastes a pitcher while the Twins just switch the pinch hitters. It is not rocket science. He intentionally walked Nick freakin Punto, but allows Morneau to hit with a base open and 2 outs - and Jeff Cirillo on deck. That is inexcusable. Forgive me, I walked out when it was 4 - 1 to play softball but you're telling me Ozzie intentionally walked Nick Punto but didn't walk Justin Morneau? Ozzie WAS AFRAID OF NICK FRIGGIN' PUNTO BEATING HIM INSTEAD OF THE REIGNING AL MVP?!? And Jeff Cirillo was on deck?!? Granted, the bullpen deserves its share along with the offense not smoking the fat meatballs served up in the earlier innings by some goof named Boof but this one, I blame Ozzie for this loss.
  6. The jury's still out in my world on Darin Erstad. Nice game last night but one good game in the last two weeks still isn't cutting it.
  7. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 05:34 AM) WHO CARES?! Runs are runs, I'm sorry to single you out, but so many people here act like runs not scored by HRs count double or some bulls***. The offense relied on HRs last year and scored a s*** ton of runs, good for 3rd in the league (2 behind Cleveland for 2nd). I agree. People seem to forget the fact the Sox slugged 200 HRs in '05 and won 3 games in the World Series via the HR. This Smallball thing is an absolute myth. If the pitching this yr is as rock solid as in '05 and doesn't collapse like in '06, this yr's team will be back in the playoffs!
  8. Wow, way to go, Erstad. Your grinder ways sure kept that ballgame going. Least you hit it someplace else other than the GB to the 2B.
  9. Erstad could go 1 - 100 and Ozzie will still say he can't live without him out in the OF Darin's played well the first week but has dropped off big time.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) But what it comes down to is Jenks. And I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it, too. Bobby's already said it: "Tonight's all on me," said Jenks. Blown saves happen. Hell, he blew one in the friggin' World Series and rebounded in the next two games. But to most on this board, I guess Bobby must be 100% every season
  11. Oh man, Santana's a beast. None of the Sox can pick up his FB. By the time they do, they're either early or late, then here comes that wicked changeup on 0-2. Ozzie might as well put any and all reserves cuz these guys are waving white flags disguised as bats today. And if Danks does go down with the loss today, I liked what I saw. Once he learns to get his breaking stuff over and keeps pounding the inside with his FB, he'll be alright.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) how cold was it going to be? that's weird for it to be called so soon. I wouldn't call it weird, I call it prudent. The Sox knew tonight's weather was going to be really brutal on the fans that were coming out (24 degrees with gusts that'll make it feel like it's 10 out. Maybe great football weather but this is baseball). Good, quick decision by the club and I applaud them for it. The bullpen needs the rest anyway. The schedule makers should get the blame for this one. Twins play in a dome and they make these two teams play here in the first week in April? That's what I call stupid, not just weird. And I hope the Twins start Santana Sun. Be fun to see them beat their best pitcher and give them some confidence heading to the House of Horrors in Oak.
  13. The only criticism I have of Coop and the Sox pitching right now is Cle's hitters are too comfortable up at the dish and they're not backing them off with inside pitches. Victor Martinez went 4 - 4 and looked so at ease at the plate he could have gone 6 - 6 if they went into extras. One more thing, stop throwing high fastballs to Sizemore. The two HRs he's hit have come off high cheese so let's hope Buehrle busts him and the Indian lineup inside all day long today.
  14. Just a poorly pitched ballgame and a lack of execution by the O (Although, 7 runs scored gives kinda them a pass). And yet, they almost won this game so I'm not too bummed at this point. Borowski's gonna cost the Tribe some games this yr and their starters are average at best so they're not gonna run away with this division.
  15. Martinez was too comfortable in that AB. Someone's gotta tell Cooper and AJ that one inside fastball to any hitter, let alone Martinez, isn't enuff.
  16. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) KKKKKKKKKKonerko driving those pop ups behind first really well. Two called strike outs well at least he threw a few pitches that inning. Not sure what else Paulie was looking for there. Hanging slider right down the middle screaming hit me and he stares at it. C'mon guys, this guy throws 88 tops, wait back on his stuff and rip it! And I agree with Ozzie here, don't pitch to Hafner. Get to the slow guy in MArtinez and keep it inside!
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) They did exactly that last year, and he kicked butt - 3.37 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 57:12 K:BB... and then put up a ZERO ERA and a 0.73 WHIP in 9 ST appearances. Compare that to Sisco's miserable season in 2006 AND miserable ST this year, and tell me again how Logan is the one not ready yet. Mea culpa, didn't know he already did that last yr. All I can say then is the lights don't come on for Logan when it's MLB games as opposed to ST/AAA and the Sox know it and see it. They obviously went for the experience factor with Sisco. Granted, that experience has translated into being a bad lefty pitcher but my guess is Ozzie will only use him for 1 on 1 matchups than the whole inning.
  18. I'll go with 93 wins. Think the Twins will regress big time (Unless Santana pitches like, everyday) and the Tigers will come back to the pack as well (No way Rogers duplicates last yr). The Indians' bullpen is now old and bad as opposed to bad last yr and the Royals spent 55 mil on Gil Meche. Me likey.
  19. I'm not sure why there's so much angst over Boone frakkin' Logan. The guy was lights out last spring training too and he immediately wet the bed in April. Travis Hafner hit a HR off him that's still going. The Sox obviously think he isn't mentally tough enough yet so I'd use him as a closer down in AAA so he can grow a pair.
  20. Well, this sucks. If the organization wasn't so in love with Erstad in CF and put him at 1B to back up Konerko (Which was the reason he was signed in the first place), they wouldn't hafta go with an unknown dude named Wiki. Granted, Widge was on the World Series team. And other than the HR he hit off Johnson, I'm still not sure what other moments he provided.
  21. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) I know we shouldn't worry about attendance, and it's a tired subject, but I'm still interested to see what you all think the attendance will be like at USC in April. Unfortunately I'm stuck at a job with coworkers who happen to be Cub fans (only 2 other Sox fans in my department) and they always talk among themselves about Sox attendance.. and when it's high they turn it around with talk about bandwagoners. It's just fascinating how obsessed they are with all things Sox-related. I overhear them talk about the Cell all the time.. even more-so than Wrigley. With that being said, I have a feeling they're gonna have a lot to talk about in April. I wouldn't be surprised if most games in April are half-full with the outfield seats and upper deck seats completely empty. Checking w/ ticketmaster and calling for tickets yesterday, April games, like every year, are selling the slowest. I also noticed during the broadcast the other day, Hawk, DJ and Brooks were begging the fans to get their tickets early, particularly for April. Personally, I think they should have cut all April ticket prices in half for "fan appreciation month" (in honor of last year's highest attendance record) and promoted the hell out of it. Again, I know it's something we shouldn't worry about it, but it does put a little damper on the excitement when that's all you hear about it April. Just ask the Cub fans in your office who's won the last two World Series. That should be enuff for them to stay quiet and take the shine off the imaginary attendance trophy.
  22. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) He's best used very sparingly. Our manager is an idiot. I recognize his ability to contribute nothing positive as a regular. I couldn't agree more. Sabathia's the Cleveland starter Opening Day so if Ozzie's going to start Pablo ahead of Pods as he mentioned the other day, we better see Anderson start ahead of Erstad for the same friggin' reason. If Erstad starts, BA should just walk up to KW and say trade me cuz you and the manager don't want me on this team.
  23. I think a starting OF of Pods/BA/Dye with Erstad off the bench is a better fit and provides better depth for the '07 season than to trade away or demote BA. BA's the best defensive OF on the roster so why get rid of that, especially when he's starting to show he can hit? Plus, I don't see Erstad holding up as an everyday player in the OF since he hasn't played it consistently since '03. I see Ozzie plugging Erstad in as a late inning replacement for either Pods or Konerko and starting him once a week to give Pods or Paulie a day off. Either way, the "Sunday lineup" will look the best it has in a while (Erstad, Mackowiak and Ozuna aren't bad options when Ozzie wants to give the regulars a day off)
