QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 10:52 PM) How about Owens has proven a better hitter in the MLB and this spring training. I dont know how much more clearer it can get. A .324 OBP is terrible for a leadoff hitter, which is what Owens is expected to be. Plus, his defense is just meh with no arm to speak of.

Split squad thread Sox vs. DBacks 03/02

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 2, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) Split squad games today - the other game is in Mexico. Masset is dominating AZ - 3IP 3H 1BB 1K http://mlb.mlb.com/news/boxscore.jsp?gid=2...chamlb_arimlb_2 Sox 1 AZ 0 - 4th inn. I wonder why Masset isn't considered a candidate for the 5th spot? It seems like he's busting his butt to be a serious contender for it (Losing 25 lbs and we know his fastball has some pop to it). If he keeps throwing like this, it'd be hard for Ozzy and KW to ignore. -
"The effects of signing Grinderstad continue..." Without question, the Sox have dealt Brian Anderson a raw deal. In '06, he finally started coming around with the bat then Ozzie benches him. In '07 spring training, they couldn't wait to put Darin Erstad in CF over Brian despite the fact Brian hit very well. Yes, Brian's attitude is a bit of a problem but his CF defense hasn't or wasn't ever a problem. Brian could hit 1.000 in ST and Ozzie/KW will still start Owens. I just don't get it.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) Ds and Rs both seem to dislike GRod, it's weird. From what I've read, the guy goes outta his way to tell everyone he's the official dictator of this state and the IL Legislature should bow to his every whim. Hey Rod, read up on your IL constitution, buddy. They're there to keep you in check, not be a stamp! He's pissed off his own political party to the point nothing will get done in this state until his term expires (Or he gets indicted by the Feds, take your pick). I'm personally rooting for the Feds
-
Moronotti prolly wrote this only because today is the 1st day of SoxFest and wants other people (Namely Sox fans) to do his bidding at the seminars since he NEVER does it. Ozzie was right a couple of yrs ago, he's a big sissy who hides behind his undeserved moniker of "columnist". Hopefully, his name doesn't come up this weekend cuz it only keeps him in town. The less he's talked about, the more he'll be GAWN!

If the kid ever figures out how to put some movement on that fastball, he'd be pretty good. Too bad Cooper couldn't teach that to him.

10 million for two guys creeping up in age and unreliability. Yikes. And if Jenks' agent, I'm taking notes.

QUOTE(Pasqua's Mailman @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) The Sox may only win 70 games this year but their chances of winning more games this year improved with this trade... they did not decrease... From what I'm hearing, the Sox may put Swisher in CF (A position he's never played consistently and played there last yr only because the other guy was hurt so let's put him out there! Woo-Hoo!) and they may lead him off (A spot he hasn't hit in). I just don't get it. Yes, he had a great OBP but he's best at the #2 or #6 slot cuz of his ability to put the ball into play and drive in runs. If they don't trade Crede (Which the Sox would get 50 cents on the dollar for with his back) and slot Fields in LF, we're looking at the slowest OF in all of baseball in '08 for a pitching staff that has only 2 guys that consistently strike out guys (Jenks, Vazquez). That's not good.
-
The White Sox officially have zero prospects in the minors now. Swisher's not a bad ballplayer (Love the OBP) but he's not a CF nor a leadoff man so what need is he filling for '08? And past Buehrle and Vazquez, relying on the combo of Danks, Floyd and Contreras to fill the rotation out is nothing short of praying for a miracle. If one of them failed, at least there was a backup plan. Now there isn't any. We'll be lucky to see 70+ wins this yr and beyond.

Cheers to the best player in White Sox history! Frank, your statue for the Comiskey Park Concourse is being made right now!

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) frank thomas's odds of being elected to the hall of fame just went up alot imo.... When Frank retires, his HOF vote should be unanimous for not only playing clean but for also speaking out against it

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) This trade really really sucked and looks worse by the day. Package Garland in some blockbuster. Dumb trade. Considering the fact the Sox traded Garland to free up $$ for Hunter, then have him sign with the Angels is even more laughable. The Angels basically traded Orlando for Garland and Hunter. Although, the Angels must have been pissed when Torii said he would have signed for less to play in Ana at his press conference! All in all, Kenny isn't the only dumb GM out there.

Hmmm, after looking at DeJesus' #'s, I wouldn't mind him here. Tough trading within the division but he's a pain in our ass. Me likey! QUOTE(infohawk @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) Bottom line -- if the Sox won the World Series in 7 games, Mariotti would argue that a failure to sweep shows just how short-sighted Reinsdorf and Williams were. The man is a disingenuous and bitter shock-jock sportswriter. His act was tired about five years ago. If people would stop reading that "writer's" material, he would have been out of this town yrs ago.

QUOTE(Harvin4Heisman @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) I'll reply to my own post. Dave Kaplan is my uncle's business partner and we give each other crap CONSTANTLY. I'm just quoting him. That's all. He just wanted to rub it in. He was also going to read my emails on the air (the ones that trashed teh cubs) after they won the division, but I think they may have been eliminated too quickly Just tell Kaplan that if the Cubs sign Matsui, their team has cornered the market on how to bid against themselves for players nobody wants.

Makes complete sense for the Angels to get Cabrera and they have the young prospects the Marlins crave. No way can the Angels afford A-Rod and his 350 million ransom when they're not exactly turning a profit out there and Moreno's a smarter guy than that. If the Angels get Cabrera and Boston resigns Lowell, Bora$$ is going to have some 'plaining to do with A-Rod since the Dodgers will be the only team that can sign/want him. I just hope the Yankees keep to their word. Love to see Bora$$ be made into a complete fool

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) From roto I agree with the move, especially if Uribe spends the offseason getting in shape instead of shooting people off the palatial ranch David Eckstein would cost this team defensively with his limited range and noodle arm....

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) Wow. He blames arguably the greatest post season closer in baseball history for blowing ONE game. ARod didn't pick him up in games 5, 6 or 7 like a true champion does. ARod's been in the show for about 14 years and THE reason he's never made it the series is because MR blew a save in '04. That's logic if I ever heard it. Yep, yep. Here's the general context of the interview from ESPN's First Take: The question posed to Bora$$ was why Rodriguez's regular-season numbers haven't translated to postseason success. "That's a characterization that, when you look at the data, is frankly inaccurate," Bora$$ said. "If you look at Alex's first season in New York, I believe he was 7-for-16 with two home runs and five RBIs going into Game 4 in Boston. "The brilliant Mariano Rivera, probably the only flaw he's made in a historic career over the postseason, if he got those three outs (in the ninth inning of Game 4), Alex would have been in the World Series and he would have been held to have a great postseason." Like you said, it's funny how Bora$$ conveniently leaves out Gms 5-7 and the '05/'06 postseasons. Too bad the interviewer didn't follow up accordingly.

QUOTE(Lillian @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) Even though K.W. publicly dismissed any notion of trying to sign A-Rod, I wouldn't necessarily assume that he isn't interested. It may not take $30 million a year to get him here. Um, yes it will. Scott Bora$$ markets his players like they cured cancer so it will take that much. Thing is now, with Bora$$ making a mockery of the World Series and pissing off the Yankees, it's been great listening to him be all squirmy this week as he realizes the market just isn't going to there anymore. NY/Bos don't want or need him and the Angels can't afford him, which leaves the Dodgers and Giants. The Giants are out because A-Rod has already stated he wants to be a winner and they won't be that anytime soon. So if I'm the Dodgers, I'd simply offer 5 yrs, 100 mil, which is nowhere near what he would have gotten if he stayed in NY and signed that extension the Yanks weere offering. BTW, Bora$$ said on ESPN last night that Mariano Rivera is the reason A-Rod didn't make the Series when he blew that Gm 4 save in '04. So the damage control is already in full force

I'd rather overpay for Hunter than overpay for Aaron Rowand. Hunter has more power and at 35 would still be better in CF than the PA$$ION. And I have no idea why Uribe's option isn't picked up already. David Eckstein blows and while Uribe's OBP is terrible, his D and 20 HRs make up for it.
-
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox01.article Would love to see Torii robbing HRs for us instead of from us! Better track record than the PA$$ION (Rowand) and at least CF won't be a gaping hole like it has been the last 2 yrs.
-
QUOTE(Drew @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) Wow, a lot of players have s***ty taste in music. Are you referring specifically to Adam LaRoche's selection of "You're the Best Around" from the Karate Kid? I burst out laughing when I read that one!
-
I'd rather have Hunter than Rowand at that pricetag. It's really laughable how much the "Passion" thinks he can get but there will be some dumbass GM/owner willing to pony that up for a player who's highly overrated. Hunter's who I want KW to get. Tired of seeing him rob HRs in CF and getting crucial hits against my team and everyone else. Want him to do that for our White Sox and he's a good clubhouse guy. Win, win situation.
-
This one's easy, Uribe. His defense is essential with a pitching staff that puts a ton of balls in play. And he has some power at the plate with 20HRs. Eckstein's arm and range stinks and for a leadoff man, 24 walks is absolutely pathetic (Uribe had more walks than he did!)

Mark Buehrle: B+ (Soul of team) Javier Vazquez: B+ (Good to see him FINALLY live up to potential) Jose Contreras: D (Least his trade value is up going into offseason) Jon Garland: C (Same as Jose) Jon Danks: C- (Looks like a Buehrle prototype but needs more command of fastball) Gavin Floyd: D+ (Meh. A Javy clone with some good stuff but doesn't know where it's going most of the time) Bobby Jenks: A (He was still big, bad Bobby Jenks!) Mike MacDougal: F (Absolute waste of a ML arm) David Aardsma: F (If his fastball had movement, he'd be a great setup guy) Boone Logan: C+ (Got better as the season rolled on) Ehren Wasserman: B (I like the different look he brings to 'pen) Mike Myers: F (Done) Matt Thornton: D (Needs fastball to move more too) Ryan Bukvich: F (Threw nothing but gasoline on the fire.) AJP: C (Was just OK but attitude fell when Sox became superbad) Paul Konerko: B- (Hope the defense and offesne doesn't keep slipping) Jim Thome: B+ (The OBP king of the Sox, drop him in order against LH or platoon with Dye to save both their bodies) Iguchi: C (He gawn) Richar: C+ (Like eye at plate and range in the field. Once he learns to hit junk, could be very good player) Juan Uribe: C- (Was lazy in the field and still has no plate discipline. But still best option at SS for next yr.) Josh Fields: B (His power was very surprising so let's improve his eye at the plate, Walker!) Scott Pods: D (Wish he were healthy, otherwise, only worth is for the bench as reserve OF, pinch runner) Erstad: D (His Royal Grindness should be dismissed. Kenny, he's NEVER gonna hit what he did in 2000, stop believing he will!) Jermaine Dye: C+ (Hope he holds up the next couple of yrs. Ozzie, platoon him at DH against Lefties!) Jerry Owens: C (Not an everyday starter as he has no plate discipline and is just avg in center) Toby Hall: D- (Didn't show much) Andy Gonzalez: F (Why is he even on the roster?!?) Alex Cintron: INC (Can bring back for reserve IF) Ozzie Guillen: C+ (Some bad moves but still most entertaining and passionate mgr we will ever have for the White Sox) Kenny Williams: D (Had some good ideas for 'pen, just blew up in face. Least he had some ideas)
