It's The Last One!!!!! Game Thread 9-2-09

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Lets not start sucking each others dicks just yet. Jenks isn't lights out this year. Luv the Wolf reference there! -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Maybe we can hire some better advanced scouts. Bingo! I hate that the scrubs on other teams seem to always murder the White Sox. The Twins are an example, Gomez blows against other teams yet he looks like a HOF'er against us.

The Kenny Williams job approval/disapproval poll
Allsox replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rios has been bad this yr but it's possible he can rebound next yr and at least we don't have to wonder who's playing CF for awhile. I really believe Kenny's gonna get Figgins, play him at 3B and switch Beckham to SS with Alexei back to 2B. I also see him signing back Thome (We need some Lefty Thunder) and letting Dye go (Dye's last two 2nd halves have been awful and Figgins fills the leadoff spot perfectly.) He can maybe sign back Pods to bat in the 2-hole and play SOME LF with him gone by the 7th inning. Otherwise, I have lots of faith in Kenny to make us a better ballclub next yr. -

QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Born in 1960, I'm not the oldest poster here, nor the youngest (or even close), nor do I have the most or fewest posts. I have been watching the Sox since the mid-60's. There were some incredibly painful stretches. I try to explain to my kids, who have only known them for the last 10+ years, how painful. They have no idea, without experiencing it. Sox fans don't revel in the futility as some others do. I don't know about this as a turning point, because, as has been noted several times, there have been a ton of them. I do want to jump on the bandwagon to say that it is incredibly enjoyable to even consider contending nearly all the time. Having young talent in the program and having experienced talent signed for years fills me with hope. Hope was not a description of how things looked for the Sox when I was the age my kids (21, 18, and 14) are now. The turning point was the joining or JR, KW, and Ozzie. Kenny is the big reason why. The guy lives and dies with every game and his recent quote Mon about how the Sox have been underachieving all this yr let me know the team is in the right hands. It's not to say he's been absolutely perfect (CF, leadoff spot, Linestink) but the man does give his best shot of keeping the Sox competitive yr in, yr out without sinking the Sox into a death spiral. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Yeah, there are a bunch of times each year where some, or even most, of the board think "we're going to go on a roll after this game" or "we're going to go into a spiral after this debacle," and it doesn't happen. Yeah, I dunno why such high hopes or bitter disappointment are pinned on every single game either. In football, you can do that somewhat but it's not possible in baseball. The sheer number of games doesn't allow for one game to be marked as a turning pt. Stretches of games, ok, maybe there's some correlation but not a single one. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) I understand what you're saying, but it has absolutely no effect on what I said. Are you talking about the schizo ups/down on the board from posters on a daily basis from games as the "supposed" turning pts? Or something else? And don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we fans shouldn't ever criticize the organization. We do that just by not showing up at Comiskey.... -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I don't want to rain on the parade, but there have been hundreds of supposed "turning points" for this team in the last decade, both positive and negative. In 23 yrs of watching White Sox baseball, this decade has undoubtedly been the best. The 80s' were awful, the 90's were very disappointing and both decades only had one division title to speak of with very few seasons of still being in the race by Aug. Sure, there's been lots of bad pts this decade (The end of 2003, the absolute collapse after the '06 All Star break where the Sox led the Wild Card by 6 games to wind up 6 games out) but mostly, it's been good times to be a Sox fan. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) For most of my history as a Sox fan, this is as good as it gets. This team will be in the race all the way, and I honestly can not ask for more than that. By late August for at least half of the last 30 years, it was time to think about the September call ups and next year. Hell, for at least a third of those year, in your heart you knew in May the team was going nowhere. This last decade have been nothing but golden for this guy. 3 division titles, one World Series championship, winning a 1 - 0 play-in game over a team that has tortured my Sox for said decade. And now, 2 games out from a 4th division title and possibly another World Series title with young exciting players and battle tested vets, how anyone cannot be proud of what this organization has done for us since 2000 is beyond me. -
Are we really one of the 4-5 best teams in MLB?
Allsox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the Sox make the playoffs, their chances are just as good as anyone else. It's 0 - 0 starting that first week in Oct. It doesn't matter what power ranking they are right now, the only goal is make the postseason where stranger crap has happened over the last 20 yrs. -
QUOTE (DanksFan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 07:44 PM) He just kills us... I'm glad he's on our team now. When healthy he's a solid option off of the bench... Kotsay has done nothing but smoke the ball all over the place. I really like him being that lefty off the bench against the tough righty closers the Sox will face down the stretch.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 12:33 AM) OMGJETERRANOUTAGROUNDER Considering the fact Jeter's got 4 rings, gets paid 18 million and his team is down 10 runs, I appreciate as a baseball fan the guy busting his ass to try and spark something for his team. -

Granted, Nix has had a terrible day in the field but he's making up for it at the plate. Nice way to shake off that 2nd error. -
Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
Allsox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't like that Richard was involved as it seemed he was starting to find his groove here and especially with Colon's elbow morphing into a grapefruit. And I thought Peavy was out until Sept?!? -
Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
Allsox replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Official now from cnnsi: The Padres have agreed to a deal with the White Sox that would send Jake Peavy to Chicago for a package of minor leaguers. Peavy must agree to waive a no-trade clause for the deal to go through. Why would he say yes now?!? -
The thing that irked me about the initial post was this part: DeWayne Wise has produced 7.1 runs created in 112 PAs. Brian Anderson produced 17.7 runs created 205 PAs. Otherwise, Swisher was a complete goof in the clubhouse and hit worse than Dwayne Wise last yr. And damn, you really had to be bad to be worse than Dwayne Wise.

QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 06:55 AM) So the story goes from: not available due to illness, not at the ballpark, ozzie says he has issues, issues turn into family issues, and now it's kidney stones? Sounds kind of weird Only in the Internet world is this kind of weird.

Rays @ White Sox 7:11pm CSN+ - The Passion of The Carlos
Allsox replied to WSoxMatt's topic in 2009 Season in Review
What upsets me the most with BA being optioned is Ozzie and Kenny deliberately chose to weaken not just the lineup but also the defensive positions of the Sox against lefties. If BA is still here, Quentin's the DH, Pods in LF and BA's in CF. Which is better than having Quentin running out in LF, Pods' Mackowiak defense out in CF and having a weak defensive replacement/pinch hitter in Wise to come in later innings. Heaven help Q if the game goes extras tonight. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Yes but every other guy we trotted out in CF the last 4 years has not had a good read on the ball at contact. Everyone wants BA to make the spectacular diving catch but the reason he doesn't is because he gets that good read off the bat and therefore, runs the ball down on the fly as opposed to sprawling at the last sec. Case in pt: Gm 3 in KC. That ball Guillen hit to deep center, Brian read the ball the entire way and made it look easy. Wise would have dove for the ball and maybe caught it, same with Da Fire and Da Passion, Mr Rowand. The read makes all the difference and BA does it better than anyone on this roster. At the plate, oh boy. I like his batting eye this yr but he still has that big looping swing that makes him late on fastballs (Rendering a 2 - 0 count he works useless) and makes him pull breaking stuff to the SS/3B everytime. Any team that doesn't play BA to the left side of the IF should fire their scouts cuz that's all he does when he puts it in play. If he can shorten the swing and push the ball the opposite way, he can be a .250 hitter with maybe a .350 OBP. But until then, all I can hope for from Brian at the plate is he works a walk or the pitcher out there has a mediocre fastball that his loop can drive. And Dwayne Wise still has no business being on a major league roster, let alone ours.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) At least you guys have a legitimate reason to boo him, finally. As if his .150 avg, one walk in 41 plate appearances and 0-2 in SBs weren't enuff?

A 100 MPH pitch from Bobby that goes for a ball isn't as effective as him throwing a 94 MPH pitch for Strike 1. C'mon, peeps, for the last 4 yrs, all Bobby wants is to throw Strike 1 and he's been far more effective with 94+ than he is at 100. He can still throw 100, he just throws more strikes when he pitches it at a lower speed.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ May 31, 2009 -> 03:13 AM) For some time now there seems to have been a fairly popular consensus that if Brian could only hit .250... that he'd HAVE TO be the regular because of his defense. So, here he is... batting .275... but we have to get rid of him because... he strikes out to much... or doesn't hit in key situations... or whatever the fan flavor of the week is. Fascinating. I say as long as he doesn't sink into sub-Uribean type batting average and OBP territory... keep running him out there. This
