Sox v. Tigers, Gamethread: Contreras v. Rogers, 12:05
Allsox replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) Let me introduce you to my friend Victor Martinez. I think he might've missed 5 games this year. Martinez has played 8 games at 1B this yr so he hasn't started 90 games all at C. Mauer has played in 81 games, 70 at C, 10 at DH. The Sox have a good DH already, that's why AJ hasn't played there. -
Sox v. Tigers, Gamethread: Contreras v. Rogers, 12:05

Folks, Widger is the BACKUP catcher, AJ can't start every game! Every team in the majors has the same setup as the Sox do so this shouldn't continue to be something to get angry about nor to be fixed so enuff of the ragging! And Ozuna grounds into a double play. Way to go, Pablo -
Is it too early to call the Tigers the official 2006 b**** of the White Sox?!? Way to go Paulie! Way to go Garland!

Check this out. It's awesome TNT will carry some games as I love the basketball coverage! Sucks though Fox will still carry the World Series :puke The Fox broadcast network and the TBS cable network have approved seven-year deals with Major League Baseball to televise weekend games during the season, the entire first round of the playoffs, plus one of the two league championship series, the All-Star Game and the World Series, Bloomberg News reported today (Tuesday), citing three people familiar with the negotiations. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Under it, Fox would broadcast 26 Saturday games ( up from the current 18 ), while TBS would carry 26 Sunday games. TBS would carry the American and National League first-round playoffs, sharing them with sibling cable network TNT. Fox would continue to air the All-Star Game, the World Series and either the American or the National League championship series. The other series is still up for grabs. Further details are expected to be announced before tonight's All-Star Game in Pittsburgh.

QUOTE(zach23 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Actually you just described the problem of modern day sports. Because of the internet and 24 hour sports programming it is harder to enjoy the game now. Every little detail is beaten to death on message boards and sports blab shows. 20 years ago you would simply watch the game and read about it the next day in the paper and that was that. Now every little thing is blown up a discussed to death until people are going crazy. It used to be a lot easier to just watch the game, and either enjoy a win or just deal with the loss until the next day. The bad thing is, the internet is addictive and it is hard to stay away from the insanity.

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) Is there a line up yet for tonight? Ask and ye shall receive: Pods LF Iguchi 2B Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Crede 3B Uribe SS Widger C Anderson, CF

Voted for Joe for exceeded and Politte for disappointment. Joe, Thome and Bobby could share 1st half MVP but Cliff's definitely hurting this team right now.
-
I voted for starters because the one thing they are not doing is pitch inside. I'm also getting really tired of watching the Twins and every other AL central Team go the opposite way on our guys, esp Buehrle, Vazquez and Garland. They nibble at that outside corner instead of jamming some guys in. Vazquez has a great fastball for going inside and Garland can throw that heavy sinker in on the hands as well.

Official Game Thread 6/30 - Sox vs Cubs 1:20
Allsox replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in 2006 Season in Review
If there weren't runners on, I'd plunk Jones and pitch to Nevin. I'm tired of seeing this hack kill the Sox. :finger -
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) This team sucks just for barely winning the last two games!!! No, this team sucks for daring to lose 26 games in 77 games played! Ozzie sucks at managing because he lost the game today and Widger should be release just because!
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) Check out his CERA this year. He's been awful at mixing up the location. Ahh, I didn't know it was Widger's responsibility to make sure the pitchers ALWAYS hit their location. Didn't know AJ has the same magic ability. :headshake Does everyone forget the fact Ozzie's the one calling pitches for both AJ and Widge?!? And can anyone on the board EVER give credit to the opposing team for going with the pitches and getting hits?!?
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) it does seem like widge catches some awful games. And it also seems he catches good ones as well. He caught Buehrle's 1:30 shut out last yr and the pitchers don't have a problem throwing to him. Christ, a pitcher has some bad luck and people wish to throw Widge right under the bus cuz it's all his fault. :headshake

Official Game Thread 6/28 - Sox vs Pirates 6:05

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) Well the Astros aren't helping us so we need to take care of our own business. That's OK, it will make winning the division this yr sweeter than last yr knowing this is the toughest division in baseball, which can no longer be denied by anybody(That means you, ESPN!) Hell, even the Twins can take down Boston in a playoff series if they continue their roll into Oct. -
Memo to Jim Thome: Please adjust to Inside Pitch
Allsox replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ya gotta believe some people that complain about a guy going 0 - 5 with 4Ks but say nothing about his GW HR 3 days earlier have got Fantasy interests ahead of baseball knowledge. And to have expected Thome to continue at the pace he was going earlier in the season is just plain dumb. The guy avgs 45 HRs WITH 150 Ks in a healthy yr. The Ks should NOT surprise anybody! -
With all the free pub the Sun-Times got out of all this garbage, they'll prolly promote Couch and douchebag to co-sports editors :finger

Official Game Thread 6/22 - Cards vs Sox 7:05

Please Freddy, keep the ball down so the Sox bats can carry you to the W and another 3 game sweep! -
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) The Sun Times is a good train paper...I'm kinda stuck.... I agree with ya about the train but I refuse to pay that idiot's salary. Daily Herald is what is on my front porch every morning.

LV, real quick question: Doesn't it bother you that Mariotti never stands by what he writes? According to Jay, on a given day, a person (Ozzie) is all wrong, the next day the person is the best thing that ever happened. He NEVER EVER has a consistent opinion or a belief into what he writes. Also, it's not right for him to name call just every sports figure in this town without taking it as well. He is the sole reason I do not subscribe to the Sun-Times simply because I grew tired of his windsocking.
-
Good to hear the kid got the message and it proved he didn't need anyone's sympathy as some were suggesting on this board. He sucked it up, is continuing to pitch and we'll see him again soon.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) You know, I really want Jay Mariotti to get hit by a bus. I usually don't mean terrible things like this, but I honestly wish that upon Jay. I just wish the Sox would tell everyone in the organization when it comes to this pud, just say no comment. When that starts happening, we won't hear about or from this idiot ever again because in this case, ignorance is truly bliss. The guy lives for this crap and this further cements his position at the Sun-Times cuz of all the free pub it's already getting :headshake

I say go Cubs for the next 6 games. They play Cle right after Det and the more Cle gets buried in the standings, the better I feel about the Sox' chances of winning the division.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Pablo has been a great bench payer for this team since spring training of last year, I could honestly care less what he did in 111 ABs with 2 different franchises over the course of 3 seasons before '05. In 203 ABs last year and so far through 75 ABs this year the guy has been amazing, he's not a starter but he's so damn perfect off the bench. There isn't a team in the league who wouldn't want him on their bench right now. I recommend you read some of the other posts in this thread, like I said before Pods was pathetic in LF last year, "not the best" is a major understatement, and it seems so far this season that he's gotten even worse out there. He's been in a slump for all but a few weeks this season, that's one hell of slump righ there. Pablo might not be a starter but he's blowing Pods out of the f***ing water right now with his bat and no matter how bad he's been defensively it's tough to be any worse than Podsednik. Pods may be bad in the OF but Pablo makes him look like Torii Hunter out there. And you said it yourself: "He's not a starter but he's so damn perfect off the bench" Good, let's keep Pablo that way and let Pods right himself. When Scotty's on, he's a much better player than Pablo Ozuna in the leadoff spot for the Sox.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) Or maybe it's being realistic, Pablo is 32-75 on the season and has been incredibly clutch. The guy is ridiculously fast, a great baserunner and a pretty good contact hitter who plays completely balls out in every way possible he blows defensively but that has more to do with the fact that he's a damn infielder playing in LF, what isn't there to love abot the guy? And like I said before, what Pods is doing right now is more than a slump. I'm not sure what exactly Pods is doing to hurt the team other than being in a slump and his defense we all knew wasn't the best last yr so it shouldn't be a shock to anyone. And I'm just being realistic when I say Pablo isn't an everyday starter for a reason. That reason is because the Sox have better players to put out there on a daily basis than him.
-
There's a reason Pablo isn't starting more than twice a week and that's cuz his defense is really brutal. Yes, he's hot right now but once teams figure out he likes to shoot the other way, they'll pitch him inside. I don't mean to downplay Pablo cuz he's an excellent sub but the holy praise going around here for him and raggin on Pods for his slump is Cub fanish :banghead

With Padilla, does anyone know if this assclown and Carlos Zambrano are friends or countrymen? That's the only thing I could think of as to why he threw at AJ on purpose in consecutive ABs since as AJ said, he faced only a couple of times when he was a Giant. And with Tracy, if he can't do what his manager asks, demote him. I have no sympathy for him nor care if Ozzie did let him have it in the dugout. Ozzie's the manager of the team, he can do whatever he wants in that dugout. I will say I'm disappointed in Javy not plunking a Ranger after the 1st AJ beanball especially when he said in the papers he thought it was intentional.
