  1. Yeah, if 16 teams are making the playoffs, I expect the White Sox to make it this year unless their SP completely implodes (which is quite possible).
  2. Some of your guys arguments are enticing. @Jack Parkman I checked the link and also searched some other material, namely: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1701.05976.pdf It seems that even though the MLB season is the longest, the actual gameplay of it leads to a lot of luck (flukes). I might be wrong about my approach before, but still would like to dig more into it later on. I'm still 100% NOT okay with 16 teams making the playoffs. As we took last year as an example, a team under .500 (Texas) would have made the playoffs. Every year in the NBA you have garbage teams making the playoffs. The NBA is so star heavy that those teams stand no chance, so they get taking care of. With the MLB (apparently) being such a luck sport, a 16 team playoff would give them all a chance. I don't like that at all after going through a grueling 162 game season. A team that worked their ass off to win their top spot would be put in a tough position (unlike the NBA where a star can single handedly own the 8th seed). With 16 teams making the playoffs, you'd put very small importance on the regular season. As Parkman said, what use would the 162 games be? Winning a division would be a shrug, ok thats cool type of thing. Since this conversation is not what this topic is about, I'll sign off for now and read from a far! Cheerio
  3. So you have no source other than how you feel based on the standings you look at. Ok.
  4. No. I said if MLB institutes a large expansion of playoffs *permanently* I would stop following the sport. I could care less what they do this season, it's already a dumpster fire anyway at 60 or so games.
  5. Thanks, but I don't see anything saying a 16 playoff is the permanent change yet, so there is hope that it won't occur !
  6. What makes you say that? Source? I'd be interested in reading.
  7. That doesn't make sense. How can it be the longest sport (and thus the most accurate representation of standings at the end) yet flukey? Want flukey go to the NFL. MLB standings are not flukey.
  8. I made a personal statement. It may or may not alter the popularity of the sport, but that's not of a concern to my personal enjoyment of it.
  9. Negative. Not sure why you feel this strongly about what I, personally, would do.
  10. Still upset with 'sox ownership, but couldn't dig the late night games (thought i'd be more of a night owl, but instead im an early riser on the eastern coast). Still not 100% down with the w'sox, love my TB Rays too. But seriously, the framework of extended playoffs would make the regular season useless. I don't watch or follow the NBA/NHL for mainly that reason.
  11. MLB going to 16 teams in the playoffs would make it unwatchable for me. The regular season wouldn't matter and the playoffs would be a joke. I'm fine with discussions on adding a wild card here or there, but any expansive additions would result in losing me as a fan.
  12. god damnit why do they drag us through the mud with these social media rumors
  13. From the article in the thread I see things like : The whole article reads like a propaganda case to make the players look bad.
  14. I'm quite happy that I don't have to watch a 50 game MLB season and instead the focus is going to be square on the problems with the Commish and the owners. I know most would have loved a 50 game season, but I want to see changes being made behind the scenes. Baseball is in such a need for an upgrade. The only problem is I don't think the greedy owners and powers that be won't allow actual changes. This is ugly.
  15. 50 games is not baseball, I hope the players strike against this foolish bs that the owners paraded these past few months. In the end, it doesn't even matter because covid will strike it all downeth again, but fuck the owners.
  16. My theory had more to do with those directly on the owners side, basically defending them against the players. One can view the reply's in all of the main tweets on this saga where there are people distinctively and aggressively supporting the owners over the players. I think your stance on here (from the discussion in the last page) is pretty level headed. I'm still 100% on the players side, but I do agree that both sides have room to improve. This debate is an interesting direct relationship to ones political beliefs from sports.
  17. What's the rationale of siding with the owners? (I'm not forcing you to give me the reason, I can search it later, but if you care to indulge me I'd appreciate it!)
  18. So you support the owners side over the players and you are not a conservative? ps no ill feelings on this matter, just pure curiosity
  19. An observation: those strongly siding with the owners are strong conservative/trumpies. Am i off base here? Is this voodoo to speak of? Just my analysis over on Twitter, admittedly a small sample size.
  20. Good thread on the latest proposal here ^^
  21. Any ideas on what the players will do? Do you think some will sit out? Will they all 'strike'? Will they just agree to it and play ball? I know they had an agreement earlier on, but seems like some players voiced their concerns over a shortened season. As a fan, a short 48 game season is pretty pathetic, especially with the extended playoffs.
  22. No. Nor is this weekend based on this proposal. It's going to come down to Rob M. dictating a season and the players deciding if they'll play or not.
  23. Closer, but the players will (should) not accept anything less than 100% pro rated salaries. Haven't they already publicly declined this latest offer? (idk) really sad and annoying that these two groups can't just come together over their demands. Players *clearly* want 100% on their pro rated salaries, owners clearly won't go over 50ish games at that level. Like... sit in a room and work it out. It's insane to me that these groups can't do that and instead go to the public with their offers to try to one up the other side for the favor of the fans.
  24. I agree that the owners should be the target, those greedy sons of b****es. But the players are not angels here either. A lot of this is all a fight prior to the 2021 CBA. It's all positioning. And that's pretty pathetic on both sides.
