  1. Trying to form my opinion on the playoff chatter, both sides have strong points. The idea to add more teams would increase revenue and help stop the massive tanking that is going on through 60% or so of the league. However, adding more teams absolutely dilutes the regular season and doesn't feel right to me. Still not sure what side of the fence I'm on, but I tend to be more on the don't change it side. I'd hate the idea of making the regular 162 game season feel more trivial.
  2. I definitely believe it when they say they will bring him up on OD with a strong spring performance. I'm rooting for Madrigal with all my might this spring.
  3. Lets get Joc and Stripling.
  4. omg yes please this is my dream, give us some flexibility if Mazara is useless or Roberts hits a road bump. I just want Puig + Tim Anderson on the same team. Will make my enjoyment level maximized.
  5. I'm of the group that feels we should be all in on trading for guys like Arenado, Bryant, Lindor (although Lindor doesn't fit us well). I would trade pretty much any prospect outside of Madrigal, and I'd even consider Madrigal if we got a really sweet deal. Wouldn't touch Roberts/Cease/Kopech obviously, but I feel we have enough in the tank to make a good deal. The 2 years on these guys make a big difference for me. I wouldn't trade for Betts for instance.
  6. Padres bullpen is GODLY!
  7. Gotta love how this organization gives its prospects a chance more so than most of the league. The Padres and White Sox do wonderful things towards getting their prospects up early/when their ready.
  8. Apologies if this has been talked about in other threads, but I saw this blurb and report by Merkin: https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-spring-training-battle-2020 Would be quite fun if he were to win his spot in spring training and get out of the gates as the opening day 2b.
  9. Stone comes off as a gigantic asshat on Twitter. He is just awful.
  10. Lindor or Arenando would be nice, or Dozier would be cool.
  11. Doesn't seem like it's been mentioned recently on this site.... but.. Red Sox are still discussing a Mookie Betts trade with the Dodgers and Padres. Pretty crazy from the Padres to be trying this.... Dodgers I fully understand.
  12. Makes no god damn sense for the reds to sign Cast. First, no DH. Second their of is loaded wtf. They got Shogo, Winker, Aquino, Senzel, T. Jank, Ervin, Schebler, Lorenzon. Like wtf. They have Mous and Eugenio in the infield so the of spots are Senzel + Aquino + Shogo for sure. Maybe this means that they'll trade Senzel ++ for Lindor ooo that'd be sexy.
  13. Teams pretty damn sexy, but gotta know how many teams are in the league to really say. If it's a 10 team league then I'd say it's pretty average, but if its a 12 or higher than you are looking quite nice. Definitely agree about the comment on your SP, but heh having Flaherty+gio is not a bad 1-2 punch. I'd suggest going for some stabilizers in SP if at all possible.
  14. I like that the Braves are adding a big bat after losing Donaldson, but this seems odd. They have a lot of OFrs and lost a draft pick over a 1 year rental. Meh?
  15. I thought about that too -- but I like Madrigal too much to make the move. It's more about not being willing to trade Madrigal for Arenando and his huge salary for what could be two years. If I was told that Nolan would be with us for the extent of his contract, I'd be more open to trading Madrigal in a Nolan trade and moving Moncada to 2b. But the issue surrounding nolan is his contract and the opt out, thus I wouldn't give up Madrigal or Cease for him. Vaughn, however, is somewhat blocked and would become the best expendable piece in this hypothetical scenario. In any event, I don't think we'd be able to get it done with STL and ATL interested, who are much more desperate for this type of move than us.
  16. I would NOT trade Madrigal for Arenando. Only reason is because acquiring Arenando means moving Moncada out of 3b and into the OF where I'm not sure he'd thrive. While I'd LOVE Nolan on the W'Sox, I'd only offer our other prospects for him. I would be ALL in on Betts in free agency tho. I like what others have stated here -- something like Vaughn + Rutherford + other quality pieces and IM OK.
  17. I wasn't making the statement to you. I apologize if you feel it was an attack. It was more of a general statement regarding the thread. There are people out there that think any player leaving Coors will shrivel up and become a weak hitter. And on this note - if we/any team can acquire nolan for a decent price, it should be happening.
  18. Nolan Arenando is one of the top players in baseball. If you think he's not good away from Coors then you don't know baseball.
  19. I'm all for the Twins getting better and teams getting better in general. Here for a fight, good games, and spectacular baseball... never rooting for teams to get 'bad'.
  20. Im kinda shocked that out of lindor betts starlin marte that nolan is the one thsts most likelyyto be traded
  21. I think the Rockies would make out very well with that Trade. They would completely revamp their starting pitching assuming Martinez can still go as a SP.
  22. This is a great and fun topic. Here's my ratings: Abreu extension: B- OP gave it a C-, I gave it a B-. I'm not as down on Abreu's production as a lot are, but this contract was more than what his output will likely be. I am a fan, however, of teams keeping their talent. Abreu should be average or above average for the length of his contract and I love him as a Sock. I'm happy with it. Grandal signing: A I'll stick with OP's A grade. Very happy to have a competent catcher behind the plate and he switch hits. Mazara trade: D+ I agree with OP that this move sucks. I would have much rather been in the market for Ozuna/Cast/Puig/Trade rather than go for Mazara. I can't deny that objectively, the trade looks good. Mazara has some serious potential, but he also has a track record of being below average or right there. This move seems to block the sox from going after Castellanos which I thought would have been a GREAT move by the Sox, especially considering his market now seems low. Keuchel signing: B- OP gave it a C, I give it a B-. Look, we HAD to get a SP. Keuchel cost us only money (no trading away prospects) and he's a pro. His ERA/WHIP's aren't very bad at all. He could be the stabilizer this rotation needs and maybe we hit the jackpot with a Cy-young type year. I'm just happy we will have pitching staff with potential 1 through 5 (and maybe even 6). Gio G signing: B+ I agree with OP's B+ and my comments regarding Keuchel fit here. EE signing: B OP gave it a B+, I give it a B. The contract is fantastic. One year with an option for two. That's what makes this so great. I just would have liked to use the DH spot a bit differently, but can't complain given the contract. Luis Robert extension: A+ Nuff said Cishek signing: B+ Needed a reliever and well... his stats are awesome. Overall: B to B+ After losing out on Wheeler I was losing my hope. But the W'Sox had turned it around and won the offseason. Now if only they could go after Castellanos this would be an A.
  23. It's a good deal for a reliver who's put up pretty solid numbers. I'm ok with this.
  24. Cubs are more worried about how they’ll sign their current stars to extensions tgan going after a guy like Castellanos
