How many times in sports do we see a situation like that happen? An asshole who was skilled enough to gain a 4.0 WAR off some gaudy statistics? Why would that be an easier explanation to give rather than the owners being cheap/MLB having a serious labor problem?
-
I agree pretty much with everything @Look at Ray Ray Run has been posting here. The other side of the argument is that for 10 million, is J. Villar really worth it? When you really break it down is he worth 10 million? I think that's a poor thing to consider. Villar is arguably not worth the full 10 million (maybe he is, idk). But he damn sure is close to that number if hes putting up 4.0 WAR last year. Further, this is a One-year contract right now if im reading it correctly. Looking at this from the Orioles perspective, this is dog shit. If I was an orioles fan, I'd be pretty pissed. I GET that getting him off the team is the right move. You don't want to win. But not like this. Hold him for a few months... if he produces then you get a really nice trade back. If he doesn't, then well, you are losing which is what you want.
-
Honestly, there should be a LOT of teams looking at him. He's the third ranked fantasy baseball 2b for crying out loud. Sure, you can argue that maybe he should be more like #5, but whatever, and sure you can say that fantasy baseball doesn't always represent real baseball, but shit, this isn't a scrub this is a stud. These are the types of moves I'd make no doubt as a GM. Grab him for nothing, and if you want, trade him at the deadline for a nice piece back!

The more I think about this move the more it smells like price collusion by the owners. This guy is a skilled player, 4.0 WAR player last year from what I understand. SOMEONE has to step up and take him on. That's just ridiculous. F*** it, the White Sox should do it.
-
Heh, I'd love to see Villar on the W'sox, he seems like a stud. I think the fit is there.. honestly, EVERY team should have a fit for a guy like Villar (multi-pos eligibility, switch hitter, speed+power combo). It's pretty sad how someone like him is on the waivers.... teams trying to over manage or save pennies, I don't know. It's bogus.

I don't mind. In reference to this board, this board should be displeased. I am neutral.

Urias will play shortstop, Hiura will play 2b

Damn the Padres got a good one. Drew really did well in the RP role. Maybe one of the most interesting bullpen arms available this offseason.

San diego fans are, at least initially, a bit upset here:
-
Wow that's an interesting trade. Wonder what the angle is for the Pads.... they have Tatis Jr and Machado on the left side of the infield, but at 2b who's there? That was for Urias. Now it's just aging Kinsler. Grisham for Urias swap is pretty interesting, from a fantasy baseball prespective

Fun. I could see it from a non-biased standpoint... White Sox are clearly going IN with Grandal and the young guns ready to blossom so it makes sense. I personally would love it 100x more than Wheeler. However, knowing our Sox, I don't see it happening. Stras is going to want to go elsewhere.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
iWiN4PreP replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As far as Wheeler goes.... Manny Machado + Bryce Harper were both awesome gets. I would have been ecstatic for them. Wheeler is not an 'awesome' buy. He is more of a mediocre buy. He's a high risk, but something we really need and all the other options on the market are either unobtainable (stras+cole) or really poor (keuchel + Bumgarner + hamels). So I wouldn't b e thrilled with a 5/100, but I also wouldn't be unhappy. -

At least if we lose out on Wheeler I won't feel like it is the end of the world a la Harper/Machado debacle. -

SWERVE THE SOX GO OUT AND SIGN STEPHEN STRASBURG IN A MONSTER DEAL AND THIS PLACE ERUPTS. No, but I do hope tomorrow brings us some good news. Idgaf about any of these twitter rumors since last year they epicly failed so hard, but yeh, Yolmer being non-tendered or what not does offer logical smoke. Could absolutely be nothing as well.

Seems like the Mariners are trying to Trade Omar Narvaez. It'll be interesting to see what they can essentially turn Alex Colome into.
-
Love it! Doing something like this (or getting Betts next year) is pretty much the ONLY thing that would get the sour taste of losing out on Harper/Machado out of my mouth.
-
Yup, that's been the worst thing about White Sox Baseball for the past 3+ years or so. Seeing these guys come up who have no shot at being MLB'rs, but just getting reps in before the young prospects come up. It's been frustrating and boring. I don't want to have one of those on the starting line up this year.
-
Machado is a completely different player than Abreu... Just not at all a fair comparison to what each bring to the table.
-
I'm fine with your other comments, but I don't see why people feel this way. Machado is 27 right now. He has another 5 years of pretty much prime-quality play with superb defense. Another 2 more years of quality play and then maybe he will become an albatross. But at that point, who cares 0_0.
-
What's worse is that people think the Yasmani and Abreu signings are going to limit us in the current offseason. Like COME ON. This team has SO much cap room, the ownership is exploting the f*** out of it. No reason we shouldn't have been #1 on Machado or Harper by far.
-
Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.
iWiN4PreP replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Him and Eloy alone are going to be a ton of fun. Then you got Kopech as well and possibly Madrigal 0_0. Selfishly, this is partly the reason why I want a RF so badly. I don't want any more corpses in the line up... enough of the Engel/Garcia/Yolmer type players that IMO are unwatchable. -
Give me Starlin Marte!
-
Very pissed off they missed out on Machado. It isn't fair to make this a Machado vs. Abreu/Grandal / Wheeler situation as they SHOULD have enough cap room to get ALL of that. They SHOULD have enough room to get Harper AND Machado. This is a false dichotomy IMO.
