  1. Ideal: Mookie Betts signs next year with Puig as a short term stop gap this year Good: N. Castellanos signs this year and rakes for us, although defense be dammed. Good: We trade some prospects for Starlin Marte and rock it out. Mediocre: Puig as a short term gap and try the market again in the next year or two The bad: Anything like Garcia/Engel etc.
  2. You are over estimating McCann's ability far too greatly. James McCann is an MLB back up catcher. His insanely lucky 2019 season is an outlier.
  3. You aren't being fair here. Greg is an important part of the community, he has well over 30,000 posts and most certainly is NOT a troll. Greg's opinion of Abreu is pretty bad IMO, it's similar to my dad who yesterday told me that the Abreu deal was a 'steal' and he gave us a 'hometown discount.' I chuckled and rolled my eyes. However, it IS nice in sports to have a guy stay with a team and be loyal. I'm lukewarm about the deal, but what in Greg's post makes it an abomination and worthy of calling a troll?
  4. Puig as our 7th-9th batter taking over for L. Garcia or Adam Engel would be a huge upgrade. This as a back up plan? sign me up. I'm not suggesting we make him target #1
  5. Tatis is awesome. However OP, if the white sox didn't make this trade, they would have made other moves around it. You can't just take the trade away and assume all else stays the same. (butterfly effect?). So, if it eases your mind, they probably still would have traded him away for a different package or something a long the lines. Who knows. Ultimately, not worth banging your head about.
  6. I get Avi. I get Ozuna because he's a shell in the OF, getting older, and up and down at the plate AND will cost a lot. But Puig I'm not understanding the hate on TBH. Maybe you can let me know why you don't want Puig? I get it if it's his attitude, that's documented as odd to say the least. But as a player he is pretty dynamic, no? Speedy, toolsy on offense, power, I don't think he's an awful defender. And by all accounts, he's going to cost very little and even possibly be on a short-term deal which is highly beneficial to what the W'Sox are doing. Don't get me wrong, I prefer Castellanos who's 27 and would rake in the ball park, but Puig as a back up plan is A-OKAY with me.
  7. I really f***ing want Castellanos now (I've been converted), but I would be OK with Puig as well.
  8. Come on guys lets let the offseason get to january before we claim this signing is limiting us
  9. I'm on board with trying to trade for Marte. He has an injury history, but is definitely an awesome player. One of the best in the league IMO.
  10. Trying to look at rumors from random people (and even from some of the experts) on Twitter is what will destroy you. Last year proved how unbelievably hopeless that was. I strongly suggest avoiding posting that type of BS.
  11. The Dodgers have a lot of good options at C. The Brewers attempted to grab Grandal if you believe those rumors, but they are also in a bit of hurt right now with the way their division is setting up and pitching staff. I wouldn't read into that as much.
  12. 1) Already a better offseason than last year. 2) Huge for the pitch-framing and really nice for the offense. This is cool! I'm Happy with this start. Now let's get Wheeler and an OF and a RP
  13. I like where you guys are going. My views have adjusted in the past few weeks. I'd be ok with Grandal + Wheeler as an offseason. I'm really coming around on N. Castellanos as well. I like Castellano's age and his hitting ability. Would be OK to have an OF of Cast + Eloy + Roberts and an IF of Grandal/Abreu/Madrigal/Anderson/Moncada. No weak spots there, just a lot of youth inconsistency and of course suspect defense. Pitching we'd have Giolito/Wheeler/Kopech/Lopez/Cease which can be decent if Kopech/Cease/Lopez develop. Then maybe we ought to sign a RP or two.
  14. Betts would be so awesome on the W'Sox. I'd love for that to happen. But I'd be so F***ing worried about signing him. Any deal for 1-year would be a disaster.
  15. I'm starting to come around to the idea of something like : Wheeler, Ryu, Grandal, Castellanos. Not a huge fan of Pederson. But that would be a very interesting offseason. A lot of timebombs there with Ryu and Wheelers deals possibly blowing up in our faces, but I'd at least consider that an A offseason.
  16. I can't believe how bad this has developed... Just ~5 or so months ago I was enjoying the skill set of Breg + Altuve + Springer + Alvarez + Correa and amazed at the squad. Now, they are the most hated team in all of sports. It's truly despicable. has there been any calls to take away their 2017 world series? I wonder what baseball will do about this.
  17. I think they failed unbelievably bad with Machado/Harper. They absolutely should have acquired one or both. Machado would have been a slam dunk for this team. I have no problem going after Betts even harder. The w'Sox are not going to be a top team with waht they have. They need to make a big add at some point likely in both OF and SP.
  18. There's a reason not to expect the worst when it comes to free agency with this organization? This organization has failed hard in free agency almost every year (on that same note, so have the Bulls).
  19. I think there is a solid argument for Rendon over Machado especially for a White Sox team that is allergic to giving out huge long contracts. However, just because Machado/Harper performed mediocre to expectations isn't a good analysis IMO. I think they are going to rock for the terms of their contract.
  20. Nice of you to remember :). I wouldn't call myself a W'sox fan, but this board is the best board for offseason talk. Padres didn't do it for me, I ended up more of a Rays fan, but honestly, I don't really follow any personal team right now. Just enjoying MLB the Show.
  21. Let's take a stab: Y. Grandal - White Sox, 4/68 N. Castellanos 4/58 J. Abreu - 2/28 RP W Harris 2/18 (or Will Smith for more) SP - Damn, I really don't know. I REALLY don't want Keuchel but he's the most realistic. Ryu? Eh. Wish I could say Cole. All contracts from: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/11/mlb-free-agent-predictions-2020.html
  22. I'd be fine with spending big on Cole/Strasburg, but the W'sox won't do that. Hell, I'd give Cole whatever he wanted. That's fine. Wheeler needs to be a decent price for me to go after, if he was, I'd certainly be on it as I love me some Wheeler.
  23. What we all thinking of Yordan Alvarez long term? Stud or dud? Dud'd in the playoffs pretty hard and wouldn't be the first rookie sensation to burn out.
  24. I'm big on defense. I want good defenders. Having Cast in the OF would scare the shit out of me.
  25. Massive contract relative to what he's performed, his risk, etc. I think he will be overpaid. I don't know what that means off the top of my head and I don't really want to do that analysis right now. Some team will pay him an amount that makes us go "wow, well, no problem." I'd love Wheeler, I just think he's going to valued highly due to his young age and the flashes of brilliance he's shown, and last years trade market had many teams looking in on him.
