November 27, 20196 yr Damn the Padres got a good one. Drew really did well in the RP role. Maybe one of the most interesting bullpen arms available this offseason.

I bet he wanted to go somewhere where he could get a chance to start. Would have loved him as our 2nd SP (then move to pen later and serve as a swing man) signing behind a big name.
November 27, 20196 yr So they now have Strahm and Pomeranz from the LH side...Yates closing. Pomeranz can be an excellent swingman in that division. Grisham for starting CF, so they need a 2B still with Urias gone. Margot should be gone. Renfroe and Myers the other two outfielders, with 2B and some uncertainty remaining about Mejia/Hedges at catcher.

November 27, 20196 yr Oof. We'll see how this one plays out but that's a long commitment for Pomeranz
November 27, 20196 yr 4/$34M. Nice deal for Pomeranz after taking a cheap 1 year deal last offseason, being terrible as a SP, and then a brief run of dominance as a reliever. He did well.
November 27, 20196 yr Kind of reminds when the Yankees signed Andrew Miller (almost same exact contract) coming off one elite season and that deal worked out really well for them.

November 27, 20196 yr Just on health alone this seems like it's going to be a rough one for SD. Preller has some gifts no doubt but free agency certainly isn't one of them.

November 28, 20196 yr Pomeranz isnt a starter and who knows how his arm will bounce back daily as a reliever - it certainly couldn't handle the starter work load. This seems like an incredibly risky contract - pom also hasn't exactly been a glowing example of strike throwing as a starter.
November 29, 20196 yr You might be right but its a risk I'd take. Prellor knows him well and if he was able to bottle his Brewers stuff, excellent move by Padres.
