Even with the insanely high k's?
-
yeah I have no idea why this comparison is relevant at all
-
You presented a nice critique of this, but also this is far too simplistic. We have incredibly advanced statistics these days that would allow teams to set up the best possible RP they have to start a game off and then transition to the next pitcher and so on. There's no reason to have a set 3 per day or something, best to play your best possible match ups always.
-
Once again -- this isn't about limiting your best pitchers as the best pitchers will still have their normal rotation. This is about the 3/4/5 SP's in the rotation. If I were implementing this on the w'Sox today I'd have kopech/Rodon/Gio go normal and have an opener for ReyLo and an opener for 5th starter (shields) with short hooks on Rey and shields if they seem incapable. The idea of limiting pitchers is an important one nowadays as so often we see SP's who do OK or even great the first and second time through the order, but once we get to the third time through the order they get absolutely annihilated. The prime example is Luke weaver this year, but of course there are many many others.

I agree that this is a strategy of the future. Statistics continually lead to pitchers getting beat up the third time through the line up. It just makes sense to have a specialist face off against a teams top 3 or so hitters in the first inning and then turning the ball over to a "SP". I would have *LOVED* if the W'Sox had enough *balls* to look into this strategy this year as it was already a lost year contending wise there would have been nothing lost by it. You don't mess with Rodon/Kopech/Gio and maybe even ReyLo, but then you have an interesting mix up of relievers during the game that would be dependent on advanced scouting/statistics. Hell, I'd do the work for them for a measely salary of $40,000 per year or something :p.

8/24 Game Thread - White Sox v. Tigers
iWiN4PreP replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Moncada has just been awful lately and overall 'bad' this year. His .300 OBP and .210 (or w.e.) avg are just downright atrocious. His K rate is insane and he hasn't done well on the defensive end. I'm by no means writing him off, but man, took a step back this year. -

Home run streak in jeopardy -
Yes right now on level of confidence I have in the future prospects of our rotation it goes: 1. Kopech 2. Rodon 3. Gio very far down the line 4. Rey Lo I think Gio has a legitimate chance to take these strides and become a useful SP3 or around there (SP2-Sp4).

Kopech the latest MLB player with questionable Twitter history
iWiN4PreP replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah -- I won't deny that using gay as an insult or even f** as an insult or both in the 'do not do' list, however it was clear by the context of the tweets that he was just jousting with his buddies. It would have been different if it was actually meant as a hurtful thing to say. As a person who takes interest in these types of issues (call it a SJW or whatever you'd like) I feel like a situation like this actually HURTS the issue. These tweets are clearly not hateful and clearly a talk amongst their friends -- making things like this into a bigger story only will serve to turn more people against social justice issues like this. -

There is not a single thing wrong in those tweets. Not a single thing when considering context. -

Luis Avilan traded to Phillies for Felix Paulino

Yup -- This is the kind of move that makes me think "hmmm, did they really exhaust all options on this?" or "WTF happened here." Like, was this really the best strategy? We couldn't group a few guys at the deadline for one prospect or something? -
Welp, this sucks -- the main stay in the line up is hurt. At least Kopech is here I guess.

So, all in all SS had 3 squash finishes (KO-Braun, Alex-Rousey, Finn-Corbin) and a horrid main event (Brock-Roman). None of the other matches were particularly must see (Zig vs. Rollins was great, but the only aspect thats interesting here is the actual match; Joe vs. Styles was also very good). Overall, a shit show. -

OOO look at this. Braun comes out in the beginning of the Universal title match announces that he won't be a coward, but then states hes going to face the winner of the match directly after the match. Isn't that hypocritical? Anyway, WWE probably thought (smartly) that no one would give a shit about the Universal title match, so bring Strowman out first, show their card -- get the crowd hyped and then do the cash in. Smart, I suppose, but once again -- WWE booking themselves into this position. Never-fucking-mind. WOW. Might be the worst of all time feud here AND the worst of all time title Reign (Brock). The whole Strowman issue was there to make the fans not revolt. Reigns wins in an extremely anti-climatic way. Lesnar is STILL protected due to fighting Strowman costing him the match. This is hilariously bad. Reminds me why I tuned out for months. Fuck this company. -

Rousey... I just don't know. She's so very talented and has all the WOW factors. But the match with Bliss was cringe. It was a brutal burial and now Rousey has already climbed the proverbial mountain top. Coach states: "Who's going to step in the ring with her??" And he's right. There's no proper competition, because no one is in Rousey's level. -
SB numbers mean little to me... I don't need a SS to hit 20+ bombs. I just want a player that doesn't make so many outs. OBP is such an important factor for me as it details the most important thing in baseball... making an out on your at bat. An OBP as low as Anderson's is horrid. Timmy was the 3rd worst player in 2017 in terms of OBP and is currently sitting as the 15th worst player this year in terms of OBP. It's just not good enough. If he can make strides in that OBP I'm open to it and he certaintly has time (at least another year), but right now I'm not optimistic.

Miz vs. Bryan was a great match. Loved the old school touch of the brass knuckle playment from the heel leading to the victory. -
1. I'd look outside of the organization for a better replacement. Can't be too hard to beat a sub .300 OBP player. 2. Timmy's OBP isn't league average its well below. This guy makes so many damn outs! 3. I don't feel Timmy can improve his OBP numbers by any great strides. He is what he is at this point. As stated earlier -- I think it wouldn't be too hard to replace him. We love the HR/SB numbers, but how many outs below average has resulted in negative runs? I will go more into this in the offseason and look deeper into the statistics and replacement level statistics. So i'll end that side of the rant there (i'll note that I'm only beginning to look deep into stats).
