  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Great job by the Count. Personally I think its time for the bullpen. 93 pitches or so? I want contreras to either win this game or lose this game himself. If he looks shaky the first batter ( walk or hit right away) take him out.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) None in 6 years...guess we're overdue for one. In spring of 2004 i know crosby had a inside the park grand slam and this past spring he had an inside the park home run. This list may not be entirely updated ( last few years) but i have been looking for any others.
  3. 1994 david cone won the cy young for the royals... the same year bob hamelin won the rookie of the year.
  4. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) 1983 White Sox No. I believe the red sox were the last to do so with nomar and pedro. What you are talking about is this...
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Um, did that inning end? Gameday hasn't updated the last pitch. I thought you had mlb.tv... or is that someone else?
  6. I just thought it would be interesting for everyone to see some of the names on this list...
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Karko's inside the park was in Tiger Stadium IIRC. He always was a great hitter in Tiger Stadium. It was in HHH actually and they won the game 4-3.
  8. QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) he had an inside the parker too didn't he? Can anyone guess the other speed demon that previously had a inside the park homerun before konerko? Try not looking it up.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) When you combine throwing arm/accuracy into the equation, that's where I think someone like Rowand is overrated. Basically, if we had a power offense, then he would fit in well. However, when you already have a SS and 3B who could be defined as defensive specialists, then you have the makings of a bad offense. Last year his arm was very strong and accurate. This year he can't hit a cut off man for anything and still has troubles picking up balls from the ground. He either runs by the ball or bobbles it while picking it up alot. That really needs to be worked on.
  10. Relievers have their little rolaids relief award. Closers winning the cy young is a farce to me. Another thing that is ridiculous is when anyone over the age of 28 is considered for rookie of the year. I actually think the cut off should be 26.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Trust me, it's not knee jerk. Him and Uribe have been extremely, extremely disappointing this season. I just couldn't believe how pumped up his reputation got because of the New York series. He's a very good outfielder...but Torii Hunter, he's not. His throwing arm has been dismal all season. He is one of the top fielders in baseball. Realistically i would only take hunter over him and maybe sizemore. Offesively though he has been very disappointing... but these are the numbers i was thinking about at the start of the year.
  12. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Oh,man. That was painful.Halladay ROBBED the CY Young from Loiaza. But,i'm sure about Bartolo and Garland neck and neck for the Cy Young this year. How about loaiza robbed himself? In september he gave up... 5, 5, 4, 3, 3, 1 earned runs.
  13. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) What's the facination with Chad Tracey at 3rd?? The Diamond Backs signed Glaus for a reason or two, His bat and Glove. Tracey is bad at 3rd. Not a bad hitter, but awful in the field at 3rd He can play first base extremely well and could also dh for us. If we were really desperate he could play the outfield. I still doubt the diamondbacks trade him... even they are not that stupid. Counting salaries he is the best hitter on the diamondbacks for the money... by far.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Erstad would be a disaster for this team. The last thing we need is a defensive specialist at a power position. We have enough of those guys on our roster already. His career ops+ is 98 and hasn't been over 100 ( league average) in four years, gonna be five after this year. I am not a fan of expensive and injury riddled players. Gload>erstad probally by more than just one ''>''. I am positive people will say erstad is better than gload but they are probally on chronic.
  15. Haha... ozzie never fails to amaze me with stupidity. No f***ing reason one of the best defensive shortstops in all of baseball is playing a position he doesn't even have one game at in his career at. It is really not that hard to flip flop blum and uribe now is it?
  16. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) That sounds like an idea. It's a big "what if?",if Hermanson sputters (hope not) then the closer's role is safe with Jenks in it.Next year sounds about right. Realistically i don't want jenks into the closers year for at the very least two years. I am not the biggest fan of hermanson but i want to see how jenks can hand the 7th/8th inning before throwing him into the closers role. You have ease him into the role in my opinion. You have to remember he has very little triple a experience and his confidence is not exactly top notch. If he blows his first two save opputunities next year, we might have big problems.
  17. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) How so? I think it was more of a guy coming back to reality after a 2003 that he'll never repeat again. Loaiza's 2003 was spectacular, but it was clearly a fluke season. Contreras, in my mind, has still never justified the money he got from NY and is getting from us, but he is a serviceable No.3/4 big league starter at this point. I do not expect to see him on the southside beyond next season, unless he takes a huge paycut or moves into the bullpen. He was throwing 88-90 miles an hour with us the entire first half of the season. He plays in the all-star game and is popping it at 94? Then the entire rest of the year with the yankees he was topping out around 94. People thought his arm just got tired when he was with us until we saw how he was throwing after the trade ( sure he sucked ass with the yankees but always looked like he gave more effort).
  18. Most ridiculous thread in soxtalk history.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) BTW, the reason people think Furcal is Cubs bound is that his agent is Aramis Ramirez's agent, and the Braves supposedly won't be able to re-sign him. They're considered the heavy favorite to sign Furcal. Also, I'd rather have Uribe for 3 million than Alex Gonzalez for 7 million. Some braves fans seem to believe that it will be much like last year with j.d. drew and they won't even really make an offer. They feel betemit will fit in nicely for only a fraction of the cost... and if the braves feel something is the right thing to do you really can't question it.
  20. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) When we were playign really well it was funny how people here (not all but many) said that Juan Uribe is better defensively than Rafael Furcal and even as dangerous offensively. Neither were true then and certainly not now. Now, I don't know if offering Furcal 40 million over 5 years is a good move but he's good enough of a player that he will command that deal from someone. I really like Furcal and Brian Giles and will puke if they become Cubs. It is really a toss up who is a better fielder. Uribe has 6.4 win shares defensively and furcal has 6.5 win shares defensively. Furcal's range factor is better than uribe's this year but there zone rating is identicial. Range factor has alot tto do with position and the pitchers ont he entire staff. Also, last year uribe led the lead in range factor and was tied for the best zone rating... so he is capable of being every bit as good as furcal and better.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I don't know what kind of science can tell you that a guy can't hit 100+ on the gun. I remember a group of scientists saying that a curve ball doesn't really curve too. He was right around one hundred miles per hour... if he never had that stroke he could have had himself a mighty fine career.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) My girlfriend has become a Sox fan just for me. I bought her a Sox Pride wristband and she actually wears it a lot. And tonight, after we uh you know, she fell asleep with me and I casually reached for the remote and watched the Sox game. :rolly

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) Agreed. I believe the fastest pitch, accurately measured, was Nolan Ryan at 100.9 Nope. . Ryan's was just clocked by guiness which makes people think it was a more accurate reading than any other... which is just silly to me.
