  1. I am sick of konerko but timo is the last person i want playing under any circumstances.
  2. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) lol i never thought of green as the color of sarcasm. listen, all i'm saying is the alternatives to paul konerko are not on this roster. ross gload? timo perez? come on. where is the patience? it's not like the white sox are four games back. they have the best record in baseball, and a FIVE-GAME lead. It just pisses me off that people believe ross gload is going to be an improvement over paulie. and yes, i'd love nine tad iguchis. he's by far the best hitter in this lineup right now. Highest paid player in one of the most important spots in the line-up is hitting .223 two whole months into the season and we need to be patient? Come on. When it comes to money differential gload> konerko and no, that is not being sarcastic.
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Remember, Chavez doesn't have any type of protection in his lineup. That's a big reason why his numbers are down. Protection is vastly overated in my opinion.
  4. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) no, we need nine ross gloads in the lineup. you know, i hate the way konerko always gets a pass when he struggles based on his history of always hitting a lot of homers and driving in a lot of runs. you picking up on my sarcasm? good, 'cause i'm layin' it on pretty thick. Shouldn't our highest paid player be able to get out of the .220? Shouldn't our four hole hitter be able to have an ops over .800? An .824 ops ( career) for our four hole hitter is how do you put this? Not good. If he was walking to a rate close to him career numbers his obp would be hovering around .300. Awesome. He has rob deere written all over him right now. You go ahead and appreciate an overpaid player such as konerko ( i have said it before the season just to make it clear).
  5. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) anyone who'd rather have ross gload starting over paul konerko needs to chill. I agree, konerko is hitting the s*** out of the ball this year. We need 8 more konerko's in the line-up.
  6. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Huff would make a great addition to the sox he would be easy to get too if the sox waited till july because the devil rays would love to get rid of the contract They don't have to move him now.
  7. Huff> chavez. He plays the outfield, first , third ( but bad) and of course he can dh. He is cheaper and will cost less than chavez in terms of both money and talent. Reason i feel he is cheaper is because the devil rays will not be able to resign him after next year due to the fact he will be getting 8 million upward per season... and teams like the devil rays do not hand that kind of money out. They are in a situation ( not exactly now but in time) that they really don't have any choice but to trade him and every team in baseball knows it. That can have an effect on what they demand in return.

    QUOTE(whitesoxfan1022 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) timo is a piece of s***
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Why would Bonds be reading a Ron Kittle book? If he does not sign autographs for white people, I doubt he reads books written by the same white people. Anyways I think its hyperbole, and I doubt Bonds is a racist. SB That is why he just wants to pass ruth and doesn't care about hank aaron's record as much? His goal has always to break ruth's record and not aaron's.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:09 AM) Villone is a guy who goes under the radar. Not sure what he throws, etc. But if he has good control and eats up LH hitters, why not? Eddie did get his team option declined this yr. If they have cheaper options, and can get good talent they should deal him They declined him because they didn't even think he would be able to pitch half of the year. Anway, he has a complete no trade clause.
  11. This is one example why ozzie is a moron. I don't care if timo goes 7-7 it is still stupid. I can only hope he bats some where between 3-5!11!11!!
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Well if you want to open it to all professional baseball, I am sure someone in Japan, or Korea, or the minors has done it. Never been done in either japan or korea.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) I dont know if I would want to part with Gio or Anderson, sweeney would be tough to let go as well, but if we must, we must. All im saying is that if he wants to free up payroll, I dont see it taking 2 top tier prospects, but if we have to do it, then we have to. For chavez who is only 27 and a four time gold glover? You better believe it would cost that much. I certainly don't think he should considering his contract but it will.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Ted Williams .406, 1941 Nope artie wilson hit .402 in 1948 for the birmingham black barons of the negro american league making him the last man to bat over .400 in professional baseball. Was a trick question.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) I wouldnt say its mortgaging the future. BMAC came up for what, 2 starts? How did he do in both of them?? Im not saying he isnt good, he is one of my favorite players, but he may factor as being a third starter or so, or maybe not. The future, right now, means nothing to me, because this is the best team i have seen since '94. I think you trade the whole damn farm if it means going deep into the playoffs and possibly winning it. If that means getting rid of BMAC, so be it. Its not like we dont have some arms behind him. We have some players that could spot start, as well as several prospects that are starting to look extremely good. BMAC came out of nowhere in a hurry, who says someone else cant do that next year? Fact is, if you have a chance to trade a not so certain player, for a all-star caliber player, you do it, hands down, no thought process. It won't just be mccarthy it would also be one of sweeney/gio/ anderson.
  16. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Frank is my childhood here as well. I respect what nap and Cobb did. Didn't Nap hit .426 one year? amazing. I still don't doubt Frank would be up there with them. Frank in his peak was one of the best ever IMO. He hit .422. Anyway, does anyone know who the last professional baseball player is to hit over .400 in a season?
  17. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) i like paulie, thats not gonna change and i'll defend him to the extent that i can, but i will agree that if letting him go/trading him will get us something decent in return i wouldnt be totally opposed. you're all right that it IS 10 mil and i also dont quite think he's worth that much. he's an FA after the season right? He is making 8.75 this year and yes he is a free agent at the end of the year.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) He is fixing his swing but he isnt fixing his swing approach... To be successful you have to hit both ways Konerko says he is a pull hitter and thats it. You don't have to hit both ways to be succesful. Some of the best hitters of all time, and the best hitters in the game are 98% pull hitters. Sure they hit it the other way when they swing late but that is about it.
  19. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) you're saying he isnt trying to fix his swing? thats just not true. theres no way a paul konerko is sitting back and being CONTENT with a .230 average He stands too close to the plate. He has all f***ing year. If he really wanted to help himself move a step off the plate and he wouldn't get jammed as much and look at a fast ball right down the middle that he should kill. He looks at more strikes down the middle than any one on the white sox... and that is saying something.
  20. What i get from this is nearly everyone is willing to mortage the future because they are positive chavez is just in a ''slump'' and has nothing to do with steroids. Now i consider all prospects supects until they perform at the major league level. No one player in the minors is a sure thing to be good in the major leagues. But you have to figure out of the package we would be sending the a's ( two of arguably our best three prospects along with another decent prospect) that one of them would pan out in the near future. I also see that it is o.k. that because konerko is overpaid it is alright that chavez is overpaid? You all say that now until we had him and he doesn't hit for s*** then people want him out of here for a bags of balls. I agree with santo 100% about chavez. He is good but not that good. If he was making 8 million a year rather than 11 million per year on average he would look pretty good for the numbers he puts up ( and his defense). If we traded mccarthy in any deal who is our sixth starter? Jon adkins? Neal cotts? Chances are we will not make it through the next two years without a starter going on the dl for a decent amount of time? Then we are stuck with nearly an automatic loss if either one of them start. I know, i know, everyone wants to ''win now rather than later''. But if you deal with beane get ready to be raped ( even the beane haters cannot deny williams has got the s*** kicked out of him in deals with the a's).
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Frank is one of the best hitters of this ERA. He is the best to ever play in chicago. His multiple 300 BA 100 RBI 100 walks 100 hits 30 hr seasons I believe has only been matched by Ted Williams who did it three times. I believe Frank did it 11 times. I could be wrong, it was in the paper not too long ago. Not to mention that he is a three time AL MVP, taking one away from the cheater Giambi.
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Why do we care what happens to Fields? I can't be positive, but I'm 99% sure that Chavez>>>>>>>>>Fields. If he hits like he has been this season for the amount he is getting paid, fields>chavez.
  23. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) If we traded for Chavez, Fields could move to 1st base and we could say goodbye to Paulsy. Field's defense at 3rd base isn't great anyways. Be nice if fields could hit in double a let alone start at first base ( big time offensive position) in the major leagues.
  24. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) Well you get my vote for best handle on Soxtalk. Also, bored =/= board. Where is the love for my screename? I better be second.
  25. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) To bad allstar voters dont realize that stealing bags and messing up pitchers mind works just as good as hitting the homerun! Welcome to soxtalk.
