Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox - Game Thread

It's amazing how little this losing has outwardly affected our players and coaches. -

Butler is one of the better teams in the nation. They have about 7 D-1 types this year, including 4 high major D-I types, and several underclassmen that will be playing for big college programs. Butler has 4 of the top 15 players in the state of North Carolina. Charest and UNC's QB commitment Braden Hanson go back and forth as the best QB in the state, both are top 20 QB's in the nation. -

Charest has one of the strongest arms in the nation, very good get. He has some tremendous teammates as well, especially DB's. -

Derek Elston, 4 star 09 PF committed to IU today. I have no idea why Roy Williams didn't offer him. His dad played at UNC and he was dying to play there, but not much interest. He's a very good player. Great get, under-rated at 4 stars. -

1 of West Virginia/Louisville could run the table as well. Neither team has much of a defense, but they could outscore their opponents until they meet up. -

Probably looking for more national appeal. It's going to be an uphill battle next year. -
Great to see Ronald Curry playing very well. 10 catches 129 yards so far. This after coming back from his 3rd Achilles season ending injury. Favorite player in sports.

Moss 6 catches for 157 yards so far. [it's obvious I'm pretending this is the NFL thread. Yeah...] -
Wes Welker is going to put up some ridiculous numbers with Brady. Not fair how much talent New England has now.
-
Looks like Brady Quinn might get some early P/T. Charlie Fry looks terrible. Well, spoke to early, only 10-0.

You are right, Rutgers went for it on 4th and 1 at Navy's 2 with 2 minutes to go and Ray Rice in the game instead of just kicking the field goal. Either way it doesn't matter. -
I can somewhat see it. But in spring training this year I know we had 10,000-11,500(capacity) at the games I was attending. Though they were playing under the scorching daylight sun instead of nightlights, if they want to make that the main sticking point.

I'm honestly asking, can someone explain to me why Fields isn't getting every rep at 3B for the rest of the year? He needs all the reps he can there, and he has been no worse defensively than Braun or Ryan Zimmerman. IF Crede proves he's healthy and capable of manning 3B this offseason then you have the entire spring training to put Fields in LF to learn. I just don't get it.

Navy lost by 17 and their QB threw two interceptions in the endzone and another one later on. Rutgers also kept Ray Rice in the game with 2 minutes to go to finally go up 17. If Schiano had any class or Navy's QB had his head on straight it would have been an easy cover, meanwhile they missed it by .5. -

I think it will be a decent, quick game. The spread was 16.5 last I looked on Yahoo, so I've got Navy with the 16.5 points. I'm expecting something like 31-21 with a lot of rushing yards. -

Don't worry about it Rowand. I knew that would be part of the fun in creating a recruiting thread, you might be 100% sure of information one minute and then 30 minutes later the 18-20 year old kid changes his mind again. That's why a lot of guru's have stopped predicting the destination of recruits, they end up looking foolish and have fans mad at them. -
I think I saw better stuff from pitchers in the little league world series, that was scary.

Agree there. Any top 10 talented team should beat ASU. That's assuming that the team doesn't overlook ASU and is properly prepared. If I had to place ASU in an area with D-I teams, I would probably put them in the 25-35 range. Still, it's going to be very tough for any team to stop a Vick type QB in a spread offense like ASU has. You have to have defensive athletes that can keep up, and Michigan's defensive players actually looked slow in the game, which was shocking to me. I would put ASU about on par with say BYU. -

Disagree, ASU would beat quite a few top 50 teams. The size difference is really overstated. ASU has 35 guys that are 250 pounds or heavier, while a team like Michigan has 36. The depth is also overstated. ASU gets 63 scholarships compared to the usual 85 for Division one, which is of course a difference of 22 players. Not many teams tap into their final 22 spots on the roster, which are usually reserved for red-shirts or injured players. Most teams won't throw a 3rd team out there unless the game is a blowout, and even then it's a mixture of 2nd-3rd string. ASU can go two deep at all their positions with 63 scholarships and has more talented walk-ons than your usual Division 1 teams. USC would probably have their way with ASU, because the speed is negated, and USC can throw layers of fast players at ASU, who is looking to play an up-tempo game. -

Nah, I'm just saying it's not all passing or nothing like Hawaii etc. You can play in a system like Tech and rush for a 1,000 yards, especially as the talent has been improving around the system each year. I just get the feeling that a lot of people around the nation seem to think it's a gimmicky offense that only works against crappy teams. To me the spread offense is the future of college football. -

It's a tradition at Clemson for the students to rush the field after wins and "mingle" with the players. ACC most likely isn't going to have a top 12 team to finish the year, it's pretty evenly bad. -
Oneli and Fernando should both get legit chances out of the pen next year in spring training, they have always put up great numbers in our system at each level.

Actually Shannon Woods rushed for 926 yards and 10 TD's last year, http://texastech.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/...e.html#TEAM.IND Taurean Henderson rushed for 872 yards and 17 TD's in 05 http://texastech.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/...e.html#TEAM.IND Taurean Henderson rushed for 840 yards and 16 TD's in 05 http://texastech.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/...e.html#TEAM.IND 2003 was more of a RB by committee with Henderson getting 700 yards and 9 TD's, but they still built up over 1200 rushing yards total from the RB's alone. Heck Taurean Henderson ended his career in 05 with 3,241 rushing yards, 2,058 receiving yards, and 69 total touchdowns. Shannon Woods is doing even better. Tech hasn't had any household names from the Leach era group, but the guys have all been getting looks in NFL training camps and several have stuck around. Wes Welker earned himself a very nice paycheck, Manny Ramirez as a rookie is challenging for the starting guard spot for the Lions, Dylan Gandy, OL, is challenging for a starting role in Indianapolis, Daniel Loper, OL, is challenging for the starting role for the Titans. Others like Joel Filani, Gabe Hall, and Jarret Hicks who were rookies this year were among the last cuts last week on the Titans, Jets, Chargers etc. TTU has never had a pro potential QB in the Leach system, until Graham Harrell now. It will be interesting to see how much of a look the NFL gives him in a few years. As for the system making the success, not quite. Spike Dykes won 7-8-9 games a year at Tech for the 12 years prior to Leach using a basic, bland style of running the football. Texas Tech seems to be stuck in a 7-8-9 win monotony for eternity, though it could be worse. -

People get the misconception that the TTU RB's don't get the ball very often when in fact the leading TTU RB each year runs for between 900-1,000 yards and also catches between 500-700 yards. In some cases the spread offense is used to offset recruiting struggles, but that's not a problem at Tech. TTU has pulled in top 20 recruiting classes every other year for a while now. Here's a typical TTU offensive line size, using this years starters for example. LT: 6'7 314 (Rylan Reed, White Sox former pitching prospect) LG: 6'6 335 C: 6'4 303 RG: 6'7 374 RT: 6'7 355 The main asset to a spread offense such as Tech's, Hawaii, West Virginia, Florida etc is of course an aggressive, talented defense. Florida managed to put it all together and won it all, West Virginia is still struggling with the defense, but has an unstoppable offense. Hawaii has a great offense, but not much on the defensive side of the ball. Texas Tech has a great offense, and a mediocre defense which leads to a mediocre 7-8-9 win season each year. We(TTU) have been upgrading the defensive speed each year, and hope that it will finally be enough to push into the Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska company of the Big 12, but we will see.
