QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Feb 13, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) and where is boone now? Juiced...Cough Cough.

Wasn't Porecello's ERA even over 4 last year. I dont see how u just think between Verlander, Scherezer, and Porcello that 2 of 3 having 4+ ERA makes them awesome. I mean its not bad and better than most, but we have 3 pitches in our rotation who are consistently well below a 4.0 ERA.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 13, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) I'm not totally disagreeing here, but why would the Cell be a better place to hit in for a guy like Damon. Isn't the Cell more friendly to home run hitters, but not so kind to doubles and triples hitters. I think Damon would hit well in Detroit. He hit 24HR last year...Id say power is a big part of his game and the cell would be the place to go.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) That's called having depth, and if you're really penciling in Delmon Young as an everyday outfielder in Minnesota then I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself. I don't think anyone would be shocked if the Twins had Kubel in LF, Span in CF, Cuddyer in RF with Thome as the fulltime DH by the time it all ended. And I think you're missing the point anyway. The idea of the traditional DH isn't so much about one player starting 150 games in that spot as it is about putting highly-productive offensive players into a spot where their lack of defensive skills cannot hurt the team. There will always be platoon situations, especially in the cases of players like Thome, Vlad, Dye, etc. who are at the ends of the careers. Ozzie however is planning on turning the DH role into a spot geared toward versatility instead of trying to maximize offensive and defensive value. Huge difference. The Twins are rolling with the traditional DH while the Sox aren't planning on doing that. Well if this is the case then the twins made a big mistake in tendering Young a contract, albeit for $3M+ too. Thats not something the twins are in the business of doing, eating $$.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Ken Rosenthal: Source: #White Sox "threw bone" at Damon, but not seriously involved. #MLB #Tigers #Braves. Who cares, we got Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay. YAWN!!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) Sounds like we're going to have to keep the faith for the night. Regardless, i'm very encouraged to see Kenny throw his hat in the ring. Merkin was quoted as saying he believes the sox had about 4 Mil to throw at Damon. If thats the case were not looking good, but if JR can actually stretch the payroll some like he has said in the past then we got a chance.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Don't you just wish this could be like poker on TV and you could see everyone's offers? Community Cards: Johnny Damon Pot Size: 14 Million Tigers to win the pot: 86% Sox to win the pot: 14%

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) Not much. I did not catch from the start but it appeared nothing Damon related was mentioned. ok

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Supposedly AJ is going to be on Chicago Tribune Live (starts in about now). Might have some insight to offer. Please post this when u have the info

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) Just mentioned this on Sportscenter. Pierre is the top AL Central Acquisition for Olney. JD is one of the 3 biggest departures. God Kenny, just sign Damon so Becks, TCQ, and Paulie can have an RBI feast. word

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) Hmm a player may actually take less money!?!? Will AJ be a bigger influence than we all thought? I still he'll take the money. . I tell you what though.. . if he takes less money and less years to come here- i have a TON more respect for the guy. Well he would take less money if say their group believes that if they play for $5 mil this year and have a productive year, USCF is friendly for power, that entering free agency next year could net them a big pay day. It depends on how they gauge the competition on the market. If Damon plays for the sox and goes something like .290/20/80 and next year is a weak FA class then perhaps they can expect to receive something like a 2 year 18 Mil offer. So its not inconceivable that even given a 2 year offer from the tigers he chooses the sox. I would say its like 70/30 in favor of the tigers.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Maybe JR should too, considering our city's in much better financial shape than Detroit. Damon is well worth $7 million a year. Yeah I think the rumor of their 2 year offer must be smaller annual salary than the 1 year offer. There is no way they shed all they payroll in Polanco, Granderson, and Jackson just so they can sign a 35 year old OF/DH for 2 years 14 mil. More likely they offer something like 1 year 4.5 mil or 2 Years 8 mil. The sox would be wise to offer like 1 year 5 mil and basically tell him that his power numbers would look awfully sexy next year playing at USCF vs. Comerica as he heads back into free agency.
-
Did anyone here honsestly think that KW would let an all star caliber player whose demands fell from 3 yrs 36 Mil to 1 year 5 mil go to the rival Tigers without trying to make a play here. He wouldnt be doing his job if he didnt try and get involved, not to mention the sox could actually use Damon. I really hope they can snatch him away from the tigers, it could mean the division for us.

Dye says "crowded outfield" prolonged his slump
joeynach replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If JD lost playing time after Rios arrival it was becuase JD was hitting .190 since the ASB and not just because Rios arrived. You can really wait to hit your way out of slump in mid august the season is almost over. JD lost playing time because he wore down in the second half and couldnt hit for s***, plain and simple. -
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) The Twins have enough power to play outdoors. But I will be VERY interested to see how they play outside in April. There won't be a colder ballpark in MLB in the first month of the season. Home field advantage comes somewhat from park dimensions, crowd noise, and field familiarity. However, there is something to be said about comfort factor. Thats part of the cubs home field advantage, their opponents are places in a small, cramped, inferior environment in terms of player comfort and convenience. Its the same reason the eagles painted their visitors locker room Pink, to make the opposing teams feel uncomfortable and out of their normal environment. So yes the twins will have to adjust to their new park and field nuances, but they will still have the same home field advantage as other teams in terms of making their opponents uncomfortable.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) I don't think signing Damon would be to negate anything Minnesota does. It makes the White Sox a better team. Of course it does..damon would probably be good for .285/20/80 in our lineup and ballpark. Which really isnt that far off from what Thome did last year with 23 HR and 88 RBI.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) Are we in trouble? Yes, we certainly could be. The Twins have a better offense on paper than us, a better bullpen on paper than us, and a better defense on paper than us. The Sox have better starting pitching on paper than the Twins. Would signing Damon change that? Well, it wouldn't change the bullpen, it would probably make the defense worse if anything. Would it be an upgrade with the bats? Yes. How much of an upgrade? That, I don't know. While he's still a good player, Damon last year put up career numbers in a ballpark almost perfectly tailored to his skill set, and he's still going to be a 36 year old this year. His speed isn't much to write home about any more. Is he an upgrade over Kotsay against RHP? Last year he put up an .889 OPS against them, so probably, although Kotsay put up solid numbers in his 2 month stint with the Sox. Is he an upgrade over Jones against LHP? Last year, he put up a .776 OPS against LHP, so probably not. Signing Damon would be, IMO, a small to moderate improvement with the bats. Is it a game-changer? No. Is the Twins signing Hudson a game-changer? No. One line drive off a pitcher's elbow or an odd step by Mauer running to 1b and the season totally changes. You're sick of talking football, I'm sick of being angry about our DH situation, so I'm just going to live with it and hope either Jones and Kotsay step up big time or KW can make a move midseason to fill that hole. Off paper the twins have one crucial aspect this year, their new ballpark. From all projections its going to play small, perhaps such as Citzens Bank. The twins tend to struggle a bit in outdoor stadiums that play small becuase they are very few opportunities to take advantage of slap and run, let the ball roll to the wall, type plays. It should be interesting to see how they adjust. They have plenty of power in their 3/4/5 combo, but outside of that they dont have supporting players with decent pop like we do. Outside of our Konerko/Quentin/Rios/Jones we have supporting cast such as Tehean, Alexi, Bechkam, and AJ that can all easily pop 15 HRs, the twins dont.

I have the code for the sox presale of tickets on Monday. PM me if u want it.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) That's true, but part of Crede's value was also playing the field, and the way he plays 3B puts a tremendous amount of strain on his back. If Crede were a full time DH or played mostly DH, I would guess that he could remain relatively healthy. If Crede were a DH then you would have a DH who hits .255/20/70, you can get better than that.

Sox not adding a LH bat; looking at relief, Damon?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) Taveras for Linebrink and $1.5M in 2011 IMO. Then cut Taveras again and give Hudson Linebrink's pen slot. Get out of Linebrink's 2011 commitment at all costs! I have a better idea. Let Linebrink pitch until the All Star break and then cut him. Hes has proven historically he breaks down, looses velocity and command, or whatever his problem is in the 2nd half. So let him post his 2.5 ERA in the first half and just cut out the part where he posts an 8+ ERA in the second half. Release Linebrink on July 14th, 2010, that way u at least got ur moneys worth in the first half. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) hmm, funny you'd say that considering in his previous 1052 plate appearances, he put up an .839 OPS with sporadic playing time. Maybe it was getting the opportunity to start that provided the big offensive numbers and the injury caused his numbers to dip in the second half. That's what it looks like to me. Well despite his monster first half HR total if he was injured 2nd half then we dont want an injured player anyway.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) I have no interest in this K man Me neither its obvious his first half of 09 was a huge fluke.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 01:48 AM) Dye is two times as bad as Damon in the OF while Damon was better offensively. Damon >>>>> Dye. Well I agree with that, so what do you think Damons Market value is. Similar to what Vlad and Matsui got, like 1 year 6.5M.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) If Dye is getting $3 million offers, Branyon can't be worth that much. If Dye is getting 3 Mil and has terrible UZR which is keeping his price down...then Damon and his terrible UZR cant be far behind. Come on Kenny go get damon 1 YR 4 Mil.

PETCOA always under projects stats and win totals. I love it when they project Howard and Puljos to have like 36 HR. I gaurantee whoever wins this division wins at least 88 games, not 82 like their projections.
