  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) He's doing what veteran pitchers do during Spring games; he's working on his fastball. Just trying to put it where he wants to and not really worrying about getting hitters out. Greg Maddux was famous for this; he'd throw nothing but fastballs in some spring outings just trying to find his release point and develop muscle memory. He's basically throwing batting practice. Yeah look at gameday..Peavy is throwing like 96% fastballs.
  2. Yeah im following on mlb gameday as well. Peavy threw 27 straight fastballs to start the game before just throwing his first breaking ball to Betemit. Looks like hes just trying to his work regiment in.
  3. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) Another thing you have to look at with Teahen is that alot of players have at least one bad month. Their play is very streaky. So even if Teahen has a bad April, who's to say he can't rebound the rest of the year. I'd rather have him batting .200 in April than in September. Ultimately I think he'll come around. Yeah I agree with this, plus its also not unheard of for a player to come over in a trade a struggle in the early goings. Sometimes it just takes some time to adjust and get settled and just play ball. Give Tehean some time to go through these motions and then you can pissed if hes hitting .200 at the end of June and butchering the ball all over the IF.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) I'd rather an MRI done on his velocity. Whats wrong his 92-93 mph fastball doesnt do it for you anymore.
  5. Anyone else who has been watching notice that Buehrle hasnt touched above 84 on the gun. Im not that concerned from this 1 ST game, but Mark still needs to thrown 86-89 MPH with his fastball to make his breaking stuff work or try and establish the inside part of the plate.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) Besides, you'd want Crede. If you read Baseball Between the Numbers, by Baseball Prospectus, they devote a whole chapter of analyzed statistical information to clutchness. The result, there is no single player you can label clutch, in fact clutchness is statistical myth.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) The problem with this is that Rios' OBP won't be that much higher than Pierre's. Both are similar in terms of speed (considering that Pierre will get CS more). You'd be wasting Rios' .450 SLG in the leadoff spot when we need that in the 5th or 6th hole. The Rios acquisition just looks like he was targeted to be the #5 hitter. A guy thats got mid 20 HR pop, can drive in 85+ runs, hit for extra base hits, and when doing performing normally will hit .280-.285. That seems like a perfect hitter behind CQ and Konerko to me to provide consistent run production. The key word is consistent, something that hes got trouble with.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) He's a .284 hitter with RISP for his career so he isnt that bad at all. I do prefer him hitting 6th however. I prefer AJ batting 6th as well. I think our 5th batter should probably be Rios if he returns to normal hitting form. Rios should be able to provide more power (around 25 or so) as well as opportunities for extra base hits and gap shots. For the sake for righty lefty combo I think it would go Pierre/Beckham/CQ/Konerko/Rios/AJ/Jones/Tehean/Alexi
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) Well, that's just wrong. Alfonso Soriano and his .975 OPS looked amazing last spring too but then he came north and the breaking balls started breaking as they should and he shutdown. Soriano...dont u mean Pedro Serrano
  10. I was thinking this too, he looks good. Hes been able to hit balls to all corners of the field and with power. Physically he looks great and hes definatly been hitting fastballs and breaking balls, I think he should be penciled in as primary DH. I would really only prefer to see Kotsay in a backup role.
  11. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Maybe it will give me something to do at work...besides doing work. Thats the spirit.
  12. So if anyone is a fan of google earth like I am they have probably noticed that almost all of the major sports stadiums in this country have really sweet 3D models, except for our US Cellular Field. In fact our park is the only Chicago stadium not to have a 3D model in Google Earth. We have got to fix this. Anyone can create the 3D models, I have experimented with it in the past, its relatively simple and free. You just need some time, which I dont have at the moment. Anyway, I wanted to reach out to all Google Earth Fans, tech savy individuals, and so on to see if someone here would volunteer to make the model. Someone started making the model of the stadium a while back, so If you look at USCF now in google earth with the 3d building layer on you will see some of the OF stands and one of the Gate 3 ramps has been modeled but thats it. To make the models you use Building Maker, a web based application. You basically drop in different shapes and polygons, form them around birds eye photos that they provide and it makes the model for you. Like it makes a 3D representation of the photo. Takes a little time and effort but not much. Anyone out there who is interested in doing this sox nation Goodwill?? P.S. And you need a google account to do it. But mostly everyone does at this point.
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 12:47 AM) If he starts out the first half like he played in the second half then he'll be put through waivers and sent down to work on things in Charlotte. If he has another strong first half however and then falters in the second, expect the Sox to keep running him out there. Thats what he always does. Good first half then the wheels fall off the second half.
  14. Wow I love the halo quotes...thats so awesome. I want to play against them on xbox live.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) Quotes from Ozzie via Cowley: Love the passion. U gotta play the game right
  16. WTF is wrong with him. He hasn't even played a single game for them or the organization. I want to finish my career working for Google, I know nothing of IT work nor have I ever worked for the company. There I said it.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) The difference is that Jones and Kotsay aren't declining. They've declined, they're shells of the players they once were. Any theory about Thome and Damon declining is conjecture and projection. Their's no daming empirical evidence that points to them being inadequate this year. Meanwhile, we have ample reason and empirical support to the belief that Kotsay and Jones aren't going to cut it. I agree Jones and Kotsay are done for the most part. But when we are talking about getting beat by our division opponents usually no one mentions a 36 year old OF who couldnt find a job until late February and a 40 year old aging slugger who has been resigned to a backup/bench role, only soxtalk.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Well, to be fair, we don't know where the Jays rated our guys versus the Phillies' guys. I don't think the FO of many baseball teams go off of prospect lists inasmuch as what their own guys say. Do you think the Jays brass just wanted to trade him out the AL.
  19. I emailed MLBtraderumors. com about this and they put it up on the site. Cool just to make things happen.
  20. HOLY CRAP. If we had Buehrle, Danks, Flloyd, Peavy, Halladay....anyone else get wood!!
  21. Anyone else think its funny we are talking about being scared of two end of their career declining ballplayers. Not that they are not good players, but they are defiantly no where near the they were years ago. At this point they are minimal impact players, shadows of their former selves, what will their impacts really be this year? Heck Thome is resigned to a bench role. And there is no way Damon hits anywhere near 24 HR's out of that RF bandbox at Yankee Stadium. Accams Razor: simply put, aging declining players will play....like their aging and declining. Im not that worried.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) You don't think Dye is half as good as Damon? Dye has much better power than Damon, and power is what he lack and need out of our DH. Damon's speed would have been nice, but I think $4M is fair for Dye. Dye is a first half performer, plain and simple. Him and Linebrink should start a group on facebook for it.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) Ted Williams was one of, if not the, best hitters in the history of the game. Speed on the basepaths can be forgiven if you are hitting .400. This whole argument is silly. The DH has been neglected, we all recognize that. There is still room for improvement and the will to do it by the general manager. Thome wasnt going to make this team an instant contender for the title, his production and health has been suspect within his own standards the past couple of years. he can still get hot and hit bombs all over the place for a few weeks, but he can also go on a cold streak where he strikes out 2-3 times a game for weeks at a time. We ALL b****ed about a slow lift and pull lineup for years, and when that was taken away, now we all b**** about it being gone. Thome is damn near 40 years old, his past with the team was appreciated, but it was time to go. Turnover is part of the game
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) If Damon wants to play for the Sox at $6M he will. If he calls up Kenny and says he'll accept the deal KW won't tell him sorry no we already pulled it. If he takes Detroit's deal at $7M he would have taken theres anyways. This is all assuming these reported offers are correct. KW probably just got sick of Borass' antics said enough with it. If Damon really wants to play here and is willing to accept that offer he knows how to get a hold of KW. Yeah thats what a real man would do.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Damon wiill still be a White Sox if he is wiiling to play for the contract pulled. This is the agent runaround that worked for the Yankees with ARod who, coincientally shares the same agent as Damon. I dunno man I doubt the sox want to add someone or negotiate stuff once spring training starts.
