  1. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) I don't know. I mean, a reasonable person would never boo Obama for wearing a Nationals jacket in Washington DC on opening day. If that's true, then the Sox fanbase is a hell of a lot dumber than I thought it was. It was more than likely just a bunch of cowards that disagree with his politics. You could also throw in some serious retards that don't think he's a legitimate Sox fan, for whatever reason. Those people are few and far between, I'm sure. Nobody boo'd Obama at USCF. The poster didn't clarify that when he put the Sox hat on at Nationals Park he meant the Nationals Park crowd boo'd, not the crowd at the sox game watching it on the jumbo tron.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) They showed him with Sox hat on the board at USCF in the 8th inning and he was booed heavily. He means booed heavily at Nationals Park, not inside USCF when they showed it on the screen.
  3. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) I miss the good old days when catching opening day just meant I would have to skip a class or two. Moral of the story, jobs sucks, stay in school 100% Agree. Being back in school in my mid 20s is the best decision of my life.
  4. Does this mean we are not getting month to month wallpapers?
  5. Dude couldnt even make the Royals roster as a backup. Looks like his time is up, though for some reason the royals did sign Pods and Ankiel.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Where have you been the last 4 years? I was being sarcastic...I know he throws vaseline balls.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) Freddy is throwing all junk in AZ. His s*** isn't moving as much as it will up north. He'll be fine. Does he throw anything besides junk...and his 86 MPH fastball counts as junk.
  8. I also noticed Pierre hasn't gotton a hit or looked the same at the plate since he took a fastball off the Elbow in the night game against the angels two days ago.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Brooks Boyer and his team are the best at what they do, bar none. Defiantly, Brooks is awesome I have reached out to him on a couple of occasion for help with school projects and hes always happy to help. He doesn't even know me.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 12:54 AM) Agreed. Nix isn't the ideal utility man with his shaky (though I think he can improve) defense at 3B/SS (stellar at 2B) but the only reason I would take him is we would be relying on a 42 year old to backup alot, not to mention would be getting a ton of at-bats. The power wouldn't hurt either. I still think we will see Hudson alot more this year than people think. (Freddy either getting injured or just not getting the job done but that's just my personal opinion and I hope he proves me wrong) Barring deadline trade for a bat of course. Once the league catches up to freddy's 87MPH fastball and array of junkballs that are never strikes his ERA will swell to over 5 and then we can call up Hudson to be the 5th starter. This wont happen till the beginning of July though.
  11. QUOTE (SockMe @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) I like Nix off the bench, brings power and a good glove. i second that
  12. Gameday Premium says MB's average fastball velocity is 83 MPH. Is MB turning into a soft tosser.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I fully believe Vizquel will be a valuable member of the White Sox. I think the problem within lies in the fact that he may be in the lineup as a DH and the fact that he has never DH'ed a game in his entire career. Nothing against the hitter Vizquel was 10 years ago or so - he was solid but not spectacular - but he's nothing more than a washed up mediocre singles hitter at this point in his career. If Omar Vizquel DH's one game, it will be a very sad day for all of baseball. He should be used as a backup infielder and as an injury replacement. Even if it's not desired, having Vizquel's glove in the field for 4-10 days wouldn't be the end of the world and it would be a hell of a lot better than having Nix play SS. Yeah exactly, hes a defensive replacement and IF back up only. Thats it.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 09:13 AM) This gets at the one area where, to me, there is simply zero argument of any kind that can be made to support Ozzie. He does L/R match-ups because he assumes all players/pitchers fit that mold, when some do not. There is no good logical reason to play Pierre more against righties than lefties - none. Ozzie is just not a stats guy, so he assumes R/L is everything. He's just plain 100% wrong on these cases, and it drives me batty that someone hasn't pulled him aside and taught him about this. All these other issues about where in the order guys hit, power vs OBP vs speed, how often you try to steal, etc. - I have opinions, we all do, but there are at least some sort of logical points that can be made from either side of the discussion. I dont even think that this has anything to do with being a stats guy or not, its just about knowing your players. Everyone knows Fields couldn't hit righties, everyone knows Linebrink cant get anybody out in the 2nd half of the season, and everyone should know Pierre hits righties and lefties equally well. And you know all that without looking at the stats, its just from being observant of the game and team over time. Thats what a manager is supposed to do, know his guys.
  15. One thing I dont understand is all the fuss about Pierre not playing or leading off against Lefties why. Pierre is a career .304/.353./.349 hitter against lefties, seems like the perfect leadoff man to me. Hes .299/.346/.380 against righties so Pierre is not one of those candidates whose numbers changes much depending on the type of pitcher. Yeah some players need to be take out becuase their numbers fall off against righties or lefties, think Josh Fields against Righties, but thats not who Pierre is.
  16. I wouldnt base anything in stone on spring training, but if Kotsay is hitting let him play. He did have some good at bats last year, I can remember him putting the ball in play and hitting the ball hard quite frequently, even when he made out. One that stands out was against Joe Nathan in Minny when he came up with the game tying run on 2nd in the 9th with 2 outs. I remember saying to my Dad I guarantee he makes good solid contact off Nathan whether its a hit or an out I dunno....sure enough he hit a screaming liner to Cuddyer in RF for an out.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 10:13 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/credejo01.shtml 9th column from the right. Remember: baseball-reference.com is your best baseball friend True dat love that site. Especially the player comparisons.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Crede was pretty banged up for the most part when determining his averages, and throw out 2006 and the 2005 playoffs, even with his outstanding defense, he was a Soxtalk whipping boy. If Teahan is similar offensively, its pretty much a given he's nowhere close defensively, he's not going to be a very popular guy around here. Maybe he shows the ability most scouts thought he had this year. It will be interesting to see how he does with a little more attention on him in a bigger city with more media, a higher profile team, etc. playing in games that really matter beginning opening day. Face it, in KC, the season was over before it started. Who cares what he does in spring training, as long as it doesn't screw with his head to begin the season. After seeing what I've seen over and over, the Cactus and Grapefruit League All Star Teams over the years have very little resemblance to All Star teams in July and even less resemblance to Silver Slugger winners and other award winners at the end of the year. I understand what u are trying to say, but to me if you can play you can play. I dont necessarily buy into all those factors. If Teahen's got game then hes got game and it will show up at any level any day of the week in any city...period. And I hope he does.
  19. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) Well, Crede played in the Cell almost all his career whereas Teahen played in Kauffman. I'm too lazy to look up OPS+ (a park-adjusted stat, yes?). Anybody got that offhand? Is that something u get from the Bill James handbook.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) I think the Giambi comparison was unfair because it failed to factor in the part that the addition of steroids played in Giambi's development. According to his testimony Giambi started taking roids around 2000-2001. Prior to this time period, he averaged around 26 homeruns and 74 RBI's. This is notable becasue this statline seems well within Teahen's reach. I think Mark Teahen really could be the the kind of player Jason Giambi was, he has a similiar build, and similiar numbers, the important factor here is that it's Jason Giambi before the roids. Listen at the end of the day the white sox are going to be similar offensive production from Teahen as they did from Crede. So in terms of production that the team is used to getting from their 3B their wont be that much difference, expect for defense of course. Crede 162 game average: .254/.304/.444/.748............26 HR, 29 2B, 86 RBI........Salary: $5M+ per year Teahen 162 game average: .269/.331/.419/.749............14 HR, 35 2B, 70 RBI........Salary: $4.6M per year (2010-2012 avg) In fact when you break this down, offensively they are almost the same in terms of production. When all is said and done their OPS is identical. What crede lacks in batting average and OPB he makes up for in HR and RBI, and what Teahen lacks in power he makes up for with better BA, OBP, and thus doubles. Of course all things being equal you would rather have Crede because of the defense, but looking at offense alone I would consider his contribution to the offense to be be either the same as Crede's or slightly better since Tehean does bring some speed (averages 10 SB per year), and his place in the lineup is more in-tune with his higher OBP and doubles rate. P.S. Oh and lets not forget to mention Teahen is not a looming injury every time he takes the field.
  21. I dont like ant stretch fit one size fit, because unless u have a big head where the hat stretches tight around your head they look stupid on you.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Lets also not forget that Andruw Jones is 33 years old, has been in the league for 14 seasons and has made 3 trips to the DL over the past 2 years including one that was supposedly responsible for the .165/.292/.298/.589 line he put up over his final ~150 PA of last season. He's also played less than 700 innings in the outfield over the past 2 years (only 148 INN last year). Perhaps it's best to ease him back into the outfield if he's still capable of being a good defender at this point in his career. Agreed. Let the younger, hungrier player play the OF
  23. Who are we facing opening day, pitcher that is.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Rios batting 5th. I approve of this. If Teahen rakes, he and A.J. could switch spots. Yep exatly the way I feel. Though the lineup is missing a bonafied 40HR and 120 RBI slugger, I feel that it is very well balanced.
