QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Don't look now, but we just rallied from down 4 runs... and have scored 8. And with Kotsay hitting 5th with his .190 Avg and 5 men LOB already. WOW!!! -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) that is so true Sometimes, actually very often, Ozzie does this to show KW, JR, the fans, everyone that "hey look at the donkeys you gave me on the roster". Its like he saying to KW you signed Kotsay and Randy Williams well here they are are for us, unable to do anything productive, especially in crunch time to close games. Its like Ozzie's version of shrugging his shoulders. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) Great. Now we'll probably get no-hit by the rookie on national TV. ill take no hit for even money -
This is from MLBtraderumors.com "ESPN.com's Buster Olney has heard that Ozzie Guillen and White Sox GM Kenny Williams do not have a good relationship at this point."

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 28, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) MLB couldn't justify suspending MB or Ozzie without suspending West, they probably didn't feel like suspending an umpire. We need to start firejoewest.com

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Depends on how you define his "Stuff". Are you talking about speed on the fastball as the only measure of his stuff, or are you talking about movement on his fastball and bite on his slider? Because a lot of starts (i.e. last night) he hasn't had either of the latter. That seems like a mechanical issue; body positioning, follow through, rotation, etc.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) A 34 year old can't be allowed a day off and has to play through it? Slumping Paulie hitting 4th >> .190 Hitting Kotsay Clown Batting 5th -

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ May 25, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) Alex Rios says hello. Ok thats true. But let Paulie play through it. His presence in the middle of the lineup forces pitchers to pitch around him, walk him, and gets others better pitches to hit. Kotsay is a clown. -

So is there any reason our best hitter in Konerko is out of the lineup tonite. I really hope its an injury or hes not feeling well or something because if this is another Ozzie matchup giving Kotsay the start becuase the pitcher is a Righty then I will crap myself. Anyone know why Konerko not in the lineup and the .190 hitting Kotsay is playing 1B? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Cleveland fans are teh biggest bandwagoners in all of pro spots IMO Yep, id say it was about 10K last night. I was there last night too. Though Id say having no sabathia, Lee, martinez, and having Sizemore/Hafner hurt and not playing really leaves a lot of the imagination for a tribe fan. Sure a loyal fan base would have avg 20K there no matter what. I also think the recession hit Cleveland hard and simply put a lot of people cant afford season tickets and frequent trips to the ballpark anymore. But thats just an opinion. -
Thanks for the tips guys. I got tix for like $5 a pop...hopefully that a sign of good luck.

I was just wondering first and foremost if anyone here is going to be at the game tomorrow night in Cleveland. I am driving in from Pittsburgh with a friend of time and we got super cheap tix on stubhub. If anyone is going lets meet up. Also does anyone have any parking or before game hangout recommendations for me. Im going on a tight budget so any affordable stuff would be great. Thanks guys!!

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Yeah, I mean every little bit counts, I suppose. AJ is an extremely difficult player to trade, IMO. He's going to be one of those players that is missed much more so when he's gone than he has been appreciated while he was here, at least in the last few years, anyways (I know many people appreciate his contributions in 05'-06'). He also is going to scare a lot of potential suitors away with his behavior, even though I think the fact that he has gotten along well with his teammates (as opposed to his issues with Brett Tomko in SF) will help. He's probably not going to net you in trade what he should be worth, especially with his poor start to this season, and so you have to look at the cost savings, as you said, and then more at the indirect results of what his departure would probably mean for the rest of the ballclub. His veteran leadership behind the plate and in the dugout will be missed. His durability will be greatly missed. His knowledge of the game will be missed. And his fire will be missed. But on the other side of that coin (as the Hawkeroo would say), trading him would send a message to the team and to the fanbase (albeit different messages, possibly), it would give Flowers a few months to start getting accustomed to our pitching staff (and for them to get accustomed to him), and it would give us an idea of what kind of backup we might need to bring in for next season. So I guess the question becomes, does the cost savings justify those indirect results, or possibly buttress them even? Or does the cost savings not stack up to all those results, given that some of them could be seen as negative? Its the game calling aspect of his game that will be missed. Our pitchers have said over and over that they owe much of their success to AJs preparation and game calling. Its one of those intangibles that if traded will truly hurt this team.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 17, 2010 -> 03:21 AM) The 2005 Houston Astros started 15-30 and went on to win the NL Pennant. The season is not over yet. We know we have a pitching staff that could be amongst the best in the league. The hitting will come around eventually, it simply HAS to. We won't bat .227 as a team for the entire season. Be patient... The sox BABIP has to improve. Flloyd has to pitch closer to his capabilities, Buehrle has to pitch closer to his capabilities. Etc Etc...we need a lot of things to go right.

Anyone happy the Padres are doing well?
joeynach replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah the Padres doing good makes KW look like he knows what hes doing. Building a team with great starting pitching, a bullpen, and no offense whatsover (AKA the KW 2010 plan), has led the Padres to a 22-12 start. Pretty amazing huh. -
QUOTE (scenario @ May 14, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) A few more stats... HBP's -1st SH (sacrifice hits) - 22nd SF (sac flies) - 27th I expected us to be higher in SH. We've only got 7 all year? Almost half the teams in baseball have 2X as many as we do. So much for small ball. And only 6 sac flies all year? Two more indications of our challenges with situational hitting this year. I believe that success in situational hitting comes from coaching. Its something you would practice in camp and throughout spring training, something that your coaching staff hammer home from the get go. Hence, when it comes to game time you are ready to go, have practiced it, and have the right mindset. Its amazing that the smallball and fundamental approach our staff has taken has failed so miserably on the field.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 13, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) We must be extremely unlucky if we put the ball into play more than any other team, but get a hit worse than 28 other teams. Either our hitters are weak pansies, or we are unlucky w/ our hit placement. We need to go back to BABIP, remember the discussion about that about a month ago. The sox were on pace to shatter some sort of MLB record for BABIP. We were at like .202 and I think the record low was like .260 with the MLB average around like .275-.280. If the sox BABIP is headed back toward league average number then I would expect our team OBP, Batting Avg, and RBI totals to start going up. If the BABIP is still well below league average then this offense is simply a failure.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) From someone that I trust, Jenks is not throwing the curve anymore because of the stress it puts on his elbow. He doesn't want to get injured prior to his free agency contract. Sadly, he's losing money by the day not being able to throw his best pitch. Isnt up to AJ not Jenks. AJ doesnt care about Jenks contract situation. AJ calls the game, if he feels jenks needs to throw the hook and jenks keeps shaking him off or refusing to throw u bet ur ass something would be done about that. AJ would throw a fit.
-
Its prolly becoming more and more obvious that the sox should not extend Jenks no should they probably look to bring him back for $8M in 2011. He simply is NOT A SHUT DOWN closer. He gets saves, but seems to always play with fire before getting a save, and as a result things like todays blowup are bound to happen again.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Hell...if the rest of the bats can't get their heads out of their tails, there's no reason to hold him past the deadline. If we are still well under .500 at the end of July then yeah trade him while his value is high, the team isn't going anywhere.

Are we really that upset over the flavor of the week being demoted.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) It's a long season, but he wouldn't be the first Sox player to have a strong first year and then fall on their face (Caruso, Fields, and even Quentin). It's more of a rule of thumb instead of a freak happening so far. Might work
-
What the freak is wrong with Beckham he looks lost at the plate. He hasn't even made contact on any two of his K's today. Front hip flying open, long swing with the bat wrapping around his body. Get this kid some help hes killing us. Isn't it amazing when one of our guys is struggling its not like hes just struggling its like hes looks like a non mlb caliber player, Beckham, Pierre, AJ and CQ earlier this year. Its disgusting almost.

I was 100% right on. Alexi is your new leadoff hitter. Im watching the live batting practice on MLB Network and they have the lineups posted. Pierre is hitting 9th and Alexi leading off.
