**White Sox vs. Royals 7/9/08** 7:10pm, CSN+
joeynach replied to Brian's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Look sometimes boys will be boys. Boys will argue and fight and get into it, these things happen over 162 games, period. The point is for the teammates and coaches to settle it, says its over, move on, and get back to work. -
I have heard a lot of people say Linebrink should not be the interim closer while Bobby is out, and that instead it should be Dotel. I think Linebrinks last two save opportunities tell the tale. He struggles a little more against lefties and is more of a outs by contact type guy. Usually as a closer ur looking for nastry stuff, high K rate, and low contact.......DOTEL. I think Dotel should be Bobbys backup with Linebrink and Thornton working the 7th and 8th still. Any thoughts.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) they said konerko will be starting tonight on the radio i agree with the sentiment of others here...i appreciate what pablo did..always played hard, did a few little things well....but he was the most logical subtraction...guys with no power, no on base ability and poor defenders just arent that valuable Thats more than can be said for uribe. Uribe has some power, good defense and thats it. Pablo can play sound fundamental ball, brings speed to the table, and can hit for average consistently. Pablo is a better player than Uribe.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) Am I the only one who had WCIU take a s***? Hell no WCIU HD in my area has gone completely haywire. I live in flossmoor, watching on comcast cable. You suck balls WCIU go away from my sports teams.

I have been thinking about this for some time now. Since Contreras throws from either over the top or drop down is that a form of tipping his pitches. Since the drop down is mainly sliders, with the occasional 2 seam fastball, wouldn't the hitter expect slider every time he sees Jose drop down. Conversely when Jose throws over the top its either 4 seam fastball, splitter, or occasionally the change up. So depending on the count and situation (as well as scouting report) isn't the drop down vs. over the top thing a form of tipping pitches before the pitch is thrown. In the very least it seems to narrow down the possibilities, IE you know Jose isn't throwing splitter from the drop down motion.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) X W-L is cool cuz it basically shows whether you're over or underperforming. ours shows we're underperforming which is great - because it means we can only go up (theoretically). Whereas the twins are vastly overperforming so the law of averages says they'll taper off. Yep
-
Expected Wins and Losses (X W-L). The mlb.com standings includes the X W-L, which is defined as "Expected won-loss record based on runs scored and runs allowed, using this formula: RS^1.82/((RS^1.82)+(RA^1.82))". We have scored 408 and given up 320. Our record is 48-35, our X W-L is 51-32, the best in baseball, and 1/2 game ahead of the cubs X W-L of 51-33. Just kind of a interesting stat. Some other notables, the Angels are 50-34 and have an X W-L of 43-41, the indians are 37-47 and have an X W-L of 43-41, and the A's are 45-38 and their X W-L is 48-35. I guess its a matter of luck so far, but the sox are facing two teams here before the break that should have more wins but have been slightly unlucky.

Well already off to a good start, we cant do any worse than 1-2. At least we got them all at home.

YEAAHHHH BOOOYYYY!

Im not worried about his win total. I could care less. Im worried about him giving up 9 hits in in 4+ innings like he did yesterday.

Cubs @ Sox - Game 3, 7:05 PM, 06/29, ESPN
joeynach replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Personally Id leave Buerhle in for the 8th, at least to start. The cubs seem to have a more difficult time with a crafty lefty than do with standard hard throwing right handers (linebrink, dotel). -

Why do we have the Right Handed lineup in against a LHP. Usually Hall gets a start and Thome gets a day off against Lefty starters...what gives with today. -
QUOTE (TCQ @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) Exactly and hes never won more than 15 games in a season, so hes no ace. Hopefully he will get a lil more consistant. All he has to do is throw strikes its not about being afraid, its about not being mentally tough, piling up a few poor starts isnt helping his confidence and thats all he needs. Hopefully one good start can snap him out of this. Hes got a nasty two seamer that he can run in to righties and tie them up. The problem us unless he uses it on the first pitch he doesn't use it. If he is pitching away on pitches 1 or 2, he never ever comes in with a hard moving inside fastball. Like I said it looks like hes afraid that if hes not perfect with it, at least in those situations, he is afraid it will get crushed. So he just doesn't bother throwing it. Same thing with this curveball, sometimes he seems afraid to throw it for fear of hanging a cookie. His stuff is so good its frustrating to see him afraid to throw some of his arsenal at times.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) He was maddening to watch yesterday, but we did win, so all is good. Pitching bad and getting away with it is not a recipe for success.
-
To me its really simple. For whatever reason, I personally think hes afraid, he refuses to pitch inside to some hitters and lineups. The last two starts against the cubs seem to confirm this. He pitched both starts away, away, away, even while changing speeds and got killed. He needs to pitch inside to be successful, period. Its thats simple. Hey Javy...MAN UP and pitch inside.
-
I have kind of noticed this myself. Most of it has to do with the 6 games we have against the cubs vs them against the brewers.
-
The offense is summed up in 1 word...LETHARGIC!!
-
Two things, first lets make a poll and take a vote on who u send down/get rid of, and wise should be included in that as well. Second when is this decision to be made, I though we were about a week away from activating Paulie?

True distances of all those home runs at wrigley

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:18 AM) Blame the conditions for the fact that we stink. Good logic. No I blame the conditions for the fact they are like 22 games over .500 at home and 3 games under .500 on the road. -
I hope so...life on Mars would be awesome. Like I have been saying for years mankind sure does have a pretty damn selfish view of himself. Maybe its just a religous thing, but in the vastness of the entire Universe, heck even our own galaxy, what makes us so freaking special. What makes us the only intelligent life form ever, what makes our planet the only one to ever have or had forms of life, what makes us the only beings of the entire universe that when we die were special and go to an afterlife (heaven or hell). The point being once life beyond this one planet is proven, maybe we can all stop being so.....egocentric!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) 1 and 3 should as well. 1 because of the environmental damage produced by generating the stuff. 3 because its oil production is over the peak and has been rapidly declining for the last couple years. Your 100% right about the way canada produces and exports oil. Its environmentally damaging to basically mine the land, remove the oil, put the land back. Though it would be a similar situation if we produced oil from our Oil Shale deposits in Colorado and other western states. I think the whole point here is as a society, economy, and lifestyle Americans are addicted to oil. Idiots like president bush and his proposal for more oil drilling and exploration in environmentally protected areas is so freaking retarded. Not only do we all know it would take 5-10 years at least to see any of the new oil hit the market, but having an oil addicted nation just keep drilling for more oil is like telling an heroin addict to grow poppies in his back yard. The issue here is energy period, not just oil. Oil just happens to be the incumbent source. A smart man would say use the resources and manpower not to explore America for new oil, but to instead forge for new sources of energy. Clean, abundant, affordable energy. This country has led the world in most technological breakthroughs of energy, technology, transportation, etc....why not use our greatest strength to harbor the next breakthrough in clean, renewable, affordable, abundant energy. It might take time, it might take pain, but it just may very well be what preserves this construction in the end.

True distances of all those home runs at wrigley

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) They know something their opponents don't. Like what?? They are able to time when the jet streams are coming and know exactly when to step into the batter's box?? Perhaps they know how to mechanicly make some tweaks here or there to try and hit 330 foot gap shots that turn into homers. Thats why that team is like 32-8 at home they know what to do to take advantage and obviously the sox hitters dont. Any plenty of those home runs hit were knee high or lower. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) Who gives a flying f***? We got our ass handed to us. f***ing stupid thread. Not its not...think about it. What if there are different conditions. Then what. Weather is random. Are u seriously telling me if they play on a cool April day things go exactly the same. U already saw what happened to tonite with 65 degress wind blowing in at 10 MPH, like 2 bombs...off the wall. -
This website called hittrackeronline.com is great. It lists the distances that every home run in baseball travels, called "True Distance" on their site. They also have something called "Standard Distance" which would be the distance of what the ball would have traveled if the weather, wind, and altitude hadn't factored into the balls flight. Basically standard distance can be thought of as nominalizing the flight of the ball by removing the extra or reduced distance the ball receives from physical conditions. The point being lets take a look at how small wrigley really did play and how hard of hits all those home runs really were. BTW, I also realize its the same conditions for both teams (both would benefit), but I also believe the Cubs players try to take more advantage of this oddity of their home park and actually swing for outfield fly balls.
