QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 09:03 PM) E D TV: Flaccid Pictures I have never heard the word "flaccid" used in that manner.

I emailed comcast sports net today about the issue here is their response, basically we were correct. Thanks for contacting us. Today's White Sox game was produced in HD. However, transmission problems from Progressive Field in Cleveland posed technical problems for us and we weren't able to transmit the game back to Chicago in HD. We were able to deliver the game in enhanced widescreen. We apologize for this occurrence and we expect to have this issue resolved for our next road HD telecast on Thursday. So they transmitted 480P to us today, called EDTV (Enhanced Defintion). I was wondering what EDTV was since I had seen it talked about but never broadcast. And now i see, it blows. Im happy to hear today was just a technical issue and they will be back to normal HD by thursday, 720P i think CSN uses. Off topic but does anyone one know who broadcasts what HD format. I believe Fox, ESPN, and ABC use 720P b/c it renders fast motion more effectively (sports, nascar, etc). And stations like TNT, HBO, History, Discovery, etc use 1080I b/c it represents a greater resolution and more still motion (movies, tv series, etc).

QUOTE(Scwible @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) I though Konerko's was pretty good but then they put on Swisher's. Absolute riot. I couldn't stop laughing. I loved konerko's. I love it when a player acknowledges a fact that we all talk about and poke a little fun at, hes just really slow.

I think with all the new players Ozzie is going to have his fair share of figuring it out when it comes to managing these guys. The same way Pinella did last year with the cubs, juggling lineups, positions, bullpen slots for most of the 1st half of the season until things became clearer in the 2nd half. I think the same will be true for the sox. A few growing pains earlier on just cuz the roster has been turned over so much.

What a horsesh** call Im really pissed off he didn't freaking tag him at all.....damn it!!!! -
QUOTE(Phil McKrevice @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Hawk just mentioned that they're broadcasting in 480p today because of technical problems, but they should be in 720p on Wednesday. My guess is the weather is interfering with the backhaul. Well that is great to hear cuz this is exactly what we were saying, that it looks like 480P and not the standard 720P HD broadcasts we are all used to seeing.
-
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) That is actually a misconception. It is a DIGITAL mandate, not HD mandate. You can still broadcast an "SD" signal as long as it is broadcast digitally. My bad
-
QUOTE(mumbles3k @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) That is definitely not HD. Who knows what is was scaled down to before being scaled back up to HD, but the artifacting is incredibly terrible. I don't think they could've put more edge enhancement on there if they tried. What century are we living in? I thought it was the 21st. Yeah I agree there is really no doubt it is not a True HD image, being 720P or 1080I (I believe broadcast 1080P hasn't happened in the US yet). The image comcast has lacks enough definition to be HD, it looks like 480P with artificial digital enhancements and is then coined the term HD. I dont know why every game in ever MLB stadiums can not always be real HD, we are 1 year away from gov't mandate on HD broadcasts anyway.

White Sox @ Indians - Opening Day Game Thread

Man just thinking about MB debacle in 2nd inning, its like the same story over and over when he gets rocked. Either his defense kinda of lets him down on plays that should have been made, or the umpire squeezes him on pitches that look like they should be strikes/strikeouts. And every time that happens it seems to followed by the floodgates and gets rocked. Its the same story over and over, big stike zone and good defense = good buehrle, bad strike zone and bad defense = bad buehrle. -
Having a problem here with this file type of PNG. What is the image not a JPEG or GIF. I am using Vista and it wont use PNG images for desktop background. WTF??bv

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) I dont have HD here at home. But I'll give you a hypothesis. Often, companies try to pass 480p off as "HD" since it is widescreen. Could be what they are doing. After seeing the images thats what my hunch was, that it was 480P wide screen because the images aren't as clear and crisp, especially during pan shots that show large areas.

Anyone else think comcast's Road HD looks pretty bad. The image dont appear to be of the same quality of other HD or even comcast's home HD broadcasts. I dont exactly know what they did to make road games in HD now, but so far it looks bad. The players and screen images seem to have this rough edging around them and also it doens't look crisp and clear as standard 720P broadcasts. What I think im seeing is some sort of non (16X9) 720p image, retrofitted for an HD broadcast and 16:9 TV, kind of like how old movies are sometimes shown in HD on Mojo or HBO. Maybe its just me but it really just doesnt look like true HD. Anyone else feel the same way or have any insight on this matter.

Is there a chance Crede's actually re-signed after the '08 cam
joeynach replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My problem with Crede is his hitting. I love his defense I believe he helps keep pitchers ERA down with the plays he makes at 3rd. But the problem is I really dont trust him at the plate. I think his swing is naturally long and loopy. His 2006 performance was on par with the rest of the team, aberrationally above normal. Joe is still a career .259 hitter with a career .305 OBP. And if you take away his 2006 Crede has a career BA of .251, not stellar. I would be really surprise if you see anything close to .290/30/90 like he did in 2006, I truly believe hes a .255 hitter with the potential for Juan Uribe like power numbers, 20 HR and 70 RBI. Not great but livable, and thats the point. His defense is great and his offense is mostly livable. Ill take my chances with Fields for the long term. -
Ya know some hitters actually do better against the regular pitchers they will see once the season begins. Some hitters stuggle against the plethora of no name young fireballs constantly being thrown out there in Spring. I have a feeling Dye does better against pitchers he is more familair with, watch him light up CC, Bonderman, Rogers, etc once the season starts.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) IIRC, when the Sox won the title in 05, they were damn good on the road. Don't those long road trips by definition get balanced by a lot of games at home? Thats kinda what Im saying it seems our schedules has more extremes than others. Longer road and home stands, months with either ton of home games or a ton of road games. I would like to things a little but more balanced I guess, maybe thats just the engineer in me talking.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) The odd thing is that we don't play KC until June 3rd, yet we play LAA 7 times before playing KC once. Also, joey, your original schedule thread is here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...;p=1517864& Hahaha I was wondering if I posted about it earlier.....see what happens when u smoke and drink too much kids.

Looking at this years schedule it just looks very unfavorable on paper. First of all we have 16 home games in April, terrible attendance and weather month (bound to be a ton of make ups) and we have 20 Road games in May, a much better weather and attendance month. We have a 10 game road trip out west in May, we have a 10 game road trip end of July, we have a 9 game road trip end of August, and we have a 10 game road trip at the end of Sept (including 4 at NYY). Thats just seems a little extreme to me, on paper, to have so many extended road and home stretches instead of more balanced schedule that would have less peaks and vallys. Just for comparison the cubs have 1 road trip of 9 games and their next longest are 7 gamers. The indians have an 11 game road trip and a 9 gamer, none of which are down the stetch in Sept. Just seems a little odd thats all im saying.

he should be .265 hitter, especially since hes hitting against lefties, unfortunately that shoulder injury has really robbed him of what hes capable of. otherwise he be a solid backup for AJ
-
I dont have US Cellular and would never consider having a "B" cellular provider, but that is sweet freaking deal, especially cuz its free!!!!
-
True the OBP is huge, but Swish in the leadoff spot is a waste of his talent. Im assuming part of the reason his OBP and power numbers are what they are is because he was hitting in the middle of a lineup, usually with runner on base head of him. That changes everything. I dont think you make him leadoff and expect 25 HRS and .380 OBP by defualt, I think you could expect that if he was hitting 5th or 6th, but leadoff is a waste of his power and ability to drive in runs.
