QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) Cabrera is also a free agent after this upcoming season. Well he is right about that Garland is definatly the definition of a mediorce. He will always be 12-12 with a 4.4 ERA.

Uh we just filled one hole and opening another. Usually those trades are kinda of dumb. We all know we needed a SS upgrade but at the expense of a huge hole in the rotation. WTF.

From mlbtraderumors.com: "Olney has an exec source who believes Hunter will sign with the Rangers for six years and $90MM." LAME!
-
I would take Bill Hall, but im not sure yet which was the fluke his .270 Avg from 06 or his .254 Avg from 07. If its Garland for Hall + Prospects Im in on it, but I dont think we need that 3B prospect. We still have Crede and Fields we dont need to keep log jamming players and forcing them to play out of position.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) If Hunter told Williams on Sunday that all he wanted was 5/$70 and he'd sign with the Sox, he'd already be donning a Sox cap and the Sox would probably be holding a press conference tomorrow. Vernon Wells got $120 million+, ditto Soriano and C-Lee got $100 on the dot. I can't believe for a second that Torii is ready to sign for $70 million. All 3 of those guys u mention were younger than Hunter when they hit the market. Hunter is 32 those guys were like 29 or 30. Therefore logic deduces that Hunter does not deserve the same value as those guys who got 6-7 years and 100-120 mil. He deserves more like 4-5 at 13-15 Mil. Now if some idiot team like the rangers swoops in they might offer him 6 years 100 Mil, but then its up to Hunter to weigh playing in that craphole market and for that craphole franchise that is going no where versus a fair but not excess deal from the sox.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) Round is a shape. 90 loss team and we keep bringing back more members of it. It was funny, at the ASB Kenny was talking about changes. the only changes are that we got rid of Gooch and Mack. The band is still back together. Well for what its worth we also dumped Erstad, Myers, and Bukvich. And Pods is all but gone. But I agree Uribe should have been one of the first to go, period.

From mlbtraderumors.com, “Not coincidentally, the Sox no longer have interest in Miguel Tejada after failing to reach an accord with the O's. Apparently at some point Kenny Williams offered Gio Gonzalez and Jose Contreras for him and were rejected. Gio is a pretty solid pitching prospect, and if he offered that package a year ago it may have been reasonable” Hmm then more I think about this the more I realize that Uribe is plan B, but perhaps just a part of plan B. Everyone knows what you would get from Eckstein, you will get a guy who can hit for average, hit situationally, and get on base (all things Uribe can’t). The point is after failing to get Tejada the white sox my still be hot on Eckstein, the only knack being as hes getting older he has found himself on the dl a little more. Hence Uribe the ultimate backup/insurance. Ecsktein will still give you a .300 AVG and .350 OBP when hes out there say 120 games. Uribe would then be his backup in the other games or his insurance in case of something more sever. Uribe would also provide depth at 2B incase Richar just doesn’t work out at all and he must be sent down. So it could be that the sox spent $4.5 mil on Uribe just to be the super INF backup/insurance guy. Basically a beefed up Cintron who really would probably only make $1-$1.5 Mil more than cintron anyway (as a bench player). Hmmmmmm.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) I'm afraid I don't know. I bet someone here does, but I'm not that guy. I remember this topic from the past there is some sort of mlb rule on trading players that have just signed a contract. Problem is I dont remember it was just FA contracts and/or how long a player is non tradeable after signing a deal.
-
If you ask me he was no real reason why he should even be on a major league roster, period. He belongs in AAA learning how to hit for average, situationaly, and work counts (draw walks).
-
WTF. What is the point of this move and what the hell is the point of the 500K difference between the option and new deal. All KW and OZ do is preach how we need to stray away from all or nothing hitters with high K rates and low OBPs. That’s exactly what Uribe is so why the hell are you bringing him back, he’s a detriment to our lineup. This move makes no sense unless its actually to make Uribe the new Cintron and have him play backup INF while the team goes after a better producing SS. Uribe is the exact opposite of the type of player this team has been after, he strikes out a ton, doesn’t walk, has a terrible batting average, declining power numbers, doesn’t make productive outs & sacrifices, and isn’t very fast. SO WHY THE HELL IS HE BACK????

I pray they dump uribe, erstad, and myers. If 2007 proved anything its that these guys are not the answer to winning baseball games.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) Whether it is or it isn't. They need to figure out if Fields is the 3B or not. He has 35-40 hr potential for next year given 600 ABs. He is going to kill you anywhere you put him, including LF. He will be best served either playing average defense at 3rd or being a DH, but it seems both those positions are filled. Your are going to kill your def and pitching staff if you play fields 162 games in left next year. If you could get a quality player in return that files an immediate hole now I would do it. Say Fields+Prospects for Tejada.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Johan Santana > Carlos Silva > Jon Garland perhaps Silva is the same pitcher as Garland statistically, but you give up no players for him, and it just costs money; Garland costs players and money. Garland for Tejada strait up. The money is the same, the only difference is garland is a fa after 08 and tejada is under contract till 2010.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) John Sickels rated Garland's trade value as a B prospect and maybe a C grade guy or two. Garland's value was a lot higher when his ERA was under 4 and he wasn't complaining about his shoulder -- that was the time to trade him. At this point, the Sox would be lucky to pick up a solid major league reliever for him. I'd rather take a B grade position prospect over a reliever any day, but the point is that he has little value. Garland will be a $12M rental next year and he's pitching poorly and is likely injured. You can't get much for that. Why cant it just be possible that Garland is the same guy he has always been, minus his 2005 career year campaign. Hes a pitcher who will range from anywhere between a few games over .500 to a few games under .500 any year whose ERA will be 4.2-4.5, thats it period. Garland is your proverbial 12-12 with a 4.4 ERA guy. He doens't throw over 91 or 92 mph, his fastball is rather strait, and his change is hit or miss. Garland is the easiest pitcher to figure out. If his sinker and change are working in tandem hes very tough, as both pitches are kept down. If the sinker and change are not working he gets Killed and gives up lots of HR's. Thats why you will see large fluctuations in his ERA cuz he is susceptible to both shutouts and giving up 10 ER in 2 IP. His value should be the same as any team looking to acquire a back end rotation guy cuz thats what he is.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Imagine this... The 2008 Twins could be looking at going into a year with no Torii, no Johan, and no Nathan. They would be depending on a rebuilt Liriano to anchor their pitching staff, plus whoever they get in the trades. The Twins could be looking at falling past the Royals if they screw this up. Personally I have no doubt that Santana gets dealt this off season. The Twins aren't going to be able to afford him, they can't risk losing him for just draft picks, and with the absolute absence of decent pitchers in FA, his value will never be higher. You put him up to the highest bidder and get you what you can for him. Morneau will be gone as soon as he demands serious money, same thing with santana. This team will never retain big time players who command bigtime salaries. And when Maur mans up to that fact that he could make 12-15 mil per year too soon he will be gone.

I have been saying this for while now. Bill Hall is a SS playing out of position and would probably love to be moved somewhere where he can go back to playing SS. I would love Hall to be the SS for the sox. Even if he comes closer to his 2007 line than 2006 hes still a huge upgrade over Uribe. Uribe is the least patient, least intelligent, and worst hitter in the sox lineup period. Replacing him with someone that has shown he can do .270 with 35 Hrs and actually have an OBP above .330 would be huge. You live with Hall's defense (which isn't that bad) knowing that he removed the worst hitter in your lineup and added a true ballplayer to your 1-9. As a bonus Hall is signed to a very KW like contract, he will make the following: 08:$4.8M, 09:$6.8M, 10:$8.4M, 11:$9.25M club option ($0.5M buyout). Alright KW get some aBrewin'

Why add another all or nothing low batting average hitter. The sox have been trying to shy away from that type of guy with the whole grinder thing. The sox have the big boys in Thome, Konerko Dye, AJ, Crede, and Fields who all have the ability to hit for power with no batting avg or no situational hitting. I dont see how adding Burell helps round out the lineup around these guys. I believe KW has made it clear he wants more speed and smarter situational hitters to fill in this lineup. With Richar in place look more for like Shannon Stewart or possibly even Miguel Tejada to be on the radar list before Burell. I would trade for Victorino though.

Anyone have or know a good site to find Hawk soundclips. I am trying to put something together and I could really use a place to find these things. I really would love a "This ballgame is OVAAA" soundclip. Thanks.

Ed DeBartolo's failed attempt to buy the Sox
joeynach replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I got banned from WSI too. A few years ago they banned me for saying something like "a lot of people from indiana are hillbillys". When i found out i was banned i felt like WSI was communist Russia and the mods were stalin. -
How many of those dingers are either solo shots or were hit when the game was already over (either with us winning by a ton or losing by a ton).

The 2008 tentative schedule was released. Our 2008 schedule is absolutely awful. Here are some highlights. April: We open March 31st at cleveland and our first 12 games are against Det, Cle, and Min. Of the 27 games we play in April 15 are at home (perfect for multiple rainouts and cold weather). May: We play 29 games w/ 20 on the road and 9 at home. 10 game west coast road trip to Sea, LAA, and SF. June: We play 26 games w/ 16 @ home. We play the cubs 6 times in June. We play Pit and Col at home and LAD on the road. July: We play 25 games w/12 @ home. Month ends with another 10 game road trip. Aug: We play 28 games w/16 @ home. 10 game homestand with 4 against BOS. 9 game roadtrip at the end of the month. Sept: We play 26 game w/13 games @ home. We have a 10 game homstand at the beginning of the month and a 10 game roadtrip towards then end with a 4 game set @ NYY (worst time to play the yanks). Our schedule sucks ass. The cubs 2007 schedule didn't have a single road trip over 6 games until september when they had ONE 7 game roadtrip (the most all year). We have 3 ten game road trips and one 9 game roadtrip. And of course we have to have our 4 game set against the Yanks in late Sept when they usually are making their monster late season run. Talk about uneven scheduling.

According to http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance, the white sox ranked 15th out of 30 in mlb attendance, which is actually a testament to the increase in attendance league wide. The sox drew just short of 2.7 Mil fans this year averaging 33,140 fans per game. I think thats pretty impressive given everything this team went through. I mean were talking about a 72 win team that was out of the race by June and had a streak where they lost 22 of 25 games and had a plethora or injuries. All and all I and I hope everyone else here is proud of the sox fan base for showing up and having a good team despite having a lousy product on the field. It makes the games more fun for everyone. What this really means is for the sox economically the 2008 payroll will probably not differ too much from 2007. I believe the 2007 net payroll was about 95-96 mil. I expect the 2008 payroll to be somewhere between 90-100 Mil.

Since these two appear to be the only real SS options for 2008 lets take a vote on who you want in 2008. Here are some stats. 2007: Eckstein - .309 Avg/.356 Obp/.382 Slg/434 AB/3 Hr/31 Rbi/24 Bb/22 K/10 SB Uribe - .234 Avg/.284 Obp/.394 Slg/513 AB/20 Hr/68 Rbi/34 Bb/112 K/1 SB In 2007 Eckstein made $4.5 Mil, in 2008 he will be a free agent. In 2008 Uribe made $4.15 Mil, in 2008 Uribe has a $5 Mil team option.

Mods Move if necessary: I was just watching the WSOP Main event on ESPN, part 3 of 16, and a guy was definatly wearing a white sox championship Ring. The man's name was McKay and you could see the ring on his left hand. The hand being played was the one where McKay was facing off against Chris Moneymaker and Chris accidently put in too many chips when trying to make a call and was forced to commit a minimum raise (he later folded the hand and McKay won). You could clearly see the championship ring on his left ring finger, and now I wonder how he got the ring and if he works for the sox? Anyone have any ideas.
