  1. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) i knew one person who had this problem and it happened to him in college and it was self-inflicted during self-stimulation. i s*** you not. Its not funny it happened to me in high school from being teased all night by this girl. This is where the term "blue balls"comes from. Its very painful. Luckily it just corrected itself and I didnt need surgery.
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 01:48 AM) WEll there goes our even/odd problem. Just kidding love you joeynach ASS....But seriously If I am the only one who can't make it on Monday them I guess im just SOL. But if it is possible to do Wed the 12th that would work, otherwise Ill just have to pre rank.
  3. Why was Gavin scratched from his start today.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) Seriously this is a load of crap. What planet is it that Kenny Williams would be looking to dump one of his top players in spring training, without getting a huge name in return? This smells of NY media garbage to me. Yeah this smells like throwing something against the wall to see if it sticks. Its pretty obvious with our 1B/DH situation that Konerko fit into that plan for the next 3 years. Thome's contract is up after this year and he will be 38 when the season is up, I doubt he is brought back. Especially considering the fact that now you have Swisher and Konerko to manage to the 1B/DH roles, which is perfect for a Konerko that will be 33,34, and 35 in the last three years of his deal. The sox trade Konerko at all it would have to be for a Melky Cabrera or Robinson Cano type named player, which I seriously doubt will happen.
  5. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) Well, I hope everyone gets in. I really like a 12 team league. I kinda like that you obviously have more players and the late rounds of the draft you have to choose between those lesser quality players. I was in either a 6 or an 8 team league once and it was kinda stupid that every guy on every team was a star quality player. To me, that's just kinda dumb. Anyway, heres hoping everyone gets in. It'd suck too if we end up with an odd number of teams and then we have bye weeks. That would really suck if we had an odd# of teams and then we have bye weeks. I say if by Monday we still have 1 open spot we should all just scramble to find a friend who would want in. I think its better to have an outsider than to have bye weeks.
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) i changed to Monday the 10th at 8:30 CST.Is that ok?? What score changed do you want me to make, im all ears. Tue or Wed Night would work so much better for me, I cant make the Monday one.
  7. Crap Im going to be out of town this weekend. Ill be back on Tuesday is there anyway we can just make the draft one evening between like 7-9 sometime mid to late next week. BTW im in...Hebrew Nationals.
  8. QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) Yeah, i too suggested interest in him a couple months back... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62459 I suggested Willits and Ervin Santana for Crede and a few other peices. Both Willits and Santana are being blocked (Santana is the #6 starter basically). What can I say, great minds think alike.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) That really makes the Quentin acquisition pretty pointless then, if you're going to have him on the bench. I think it's more likely if Willits was dealt, he platoons in LF, or he could play CF when he plays for Quentin (platooning), with Swisher moving over to a corner OF spot. I don't think Swisher is going to be as bad as advertised in CF actually. Well I think we need a leadoff hitter, I dont trust Owens. Plus Quentin becomes your LF in 09 anyway when Swish is moved out of the OF completly.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) Reggie Willits is blocked in the Angels system...and yet he wouldn't be blocked by Dye, Swisher, Quentin, Owens, and maybe Anderson? We already have 4 OF's competing for playing time, potentially 5 if Anderson keeps hitting. Reggie would probably fit in after the first 3, but he'd still be struggling to find a job here. Well since we dont have a real CF he would fill that void. If we had Willits now he is CF, Dye is your RF and Swisher is your LF this year. Owens and Quentin become bench players/have a spot in 09. Since Thome becomes a FA after 08 you move Konerko and Swisher to the 1B/DH roles. That leaves (in 09 and beyond) Dye in RF, Willits in CF, Quentin/Owens in LF (most likely Quentin). I dont think its a bad roster move.
  11. Reggie Willits seems to be a blocked prospect in the Angles system. This guy we all know is pretty darn good, he plays CF, and would be a leadoff hitter. He is major league ready now and is currently blocked by the log jam of outfielders by the Angels. Hunter, Vlad, Matthews, and Anderson are all basically "in the way". Willits is a career .291 hitter with a .393 OBP. He would be a great player for the sox to have for the next several years, I want him. Here is what MLBTR.com has to say about Willits. In their 2007 handbook, Baseball America called him an "above-average center fielder with an average arm and plus speed." Offensively, Willits profiles as the ideal leadoff hitter. In 576 big league plate appearances, he's drawn 80 walks. A walk rate near 14% and a .393 career OBP makes for a valuable center fielder, even with no power. Baseball Prospectus sees him dipping to .269/.353/.354 this year, a performance worth $5MM even if he plays only two-thirds of a season. He's also a switch-hitter with no discernible split. And for the next two seasons, Willits will earn less than a million bucks total. So in reality what would it take to get this guy in here. I know the Angels have always had some allure for Crede. Perhaps some sort of Crede+Flloyd+1st Rd Pick? Im just speculating here, any idea?
  12. Why do I have a feeling this is going to be the best news of the 2008 season.
  13. The reason they wont do that is because is have a fiscal bottom line to worry about every season. The points you make build a nice ballclub and require sacrificing at least 1. The point is sacrificing means less ticket sales, revenue, lower season ticket base, less media exposure, less advertising, less sponsorship, etc. While we could all care less about that for 1 season if we believe its going to bring us championships later I dont feel management can feel that way. While winning can bring revenue good mgmt can bring revenue even when the team isn't winning. And thats mgmt's concern, being a successful business when winning is easy, its default, but mgmt's draw is to make the organization a revenue streaming machine with or without winning. And that my friend is the innate dilemma.
  14. hell have no fury like an unemployed pitcher scorned.......basically hes desperate and unemployed
  15. I am definatly in. 1. I consider myself a veteran. 2. I prefer head to head 3. I dont know the previous league #, but I dont want to play in the same one again. 4. I would be willing to be commish. One my grips with the leagues last year was that the stat categories were to general or too few and their were too many teams in each league. This led to a lot of players who normally wouldn't be drafted being on peoples teams, and with injuries and such there is really nothing impactful left. I think it would be nice to have at least 6 categories for both hitting and pitching. It would be nice to have Avg, OBP, BB, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI for hitting and ERA, WHIP, K, BB, IP, SV, W for pitching. Basically make the league more comprehensive without watering it down by having, hence no more than 10 teams per league. Anyway thats my two cents.
  16. I think everyone at this point acknowledges that in 2005 a lot of thing simply came together at the right time. A lot of guys had career years, we found jenks off waivers, pods stayed healthy, the twins took the year off, etc. Its the same way 2007 was such a disaster, everyone at the same time had the opposite of career years, career worst numbers. We won in 2005 because a lot of things came together on the positive side, we lost in 2007 becuase a lot of things came together on the negative side.
  17. Naw thats just their programing...which has anyone else noticed seems to be oriented for one ethnic group.
  18. Sox games on WCIU will now be available in HD on comcast Channel 183 in many Chicago outlets.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 06:41 AM) Take your sunny optimism elsewhere my friend, this is Soxtalk. There is no SP on the market that is an upgrade, not even Colon. I assume the dotel and ramirez deals mean either Crede or Uribe will be dealt to clear the $5 Mil payroll (dont forget the sox recieve $ for Thome and Cabrera). The only change to the roster I can see before opening day would be a trade of Crede for either Lowry or Ervin Santana, that or Fields is simply demoted. But i do believe the sox are looking to shed crede's salary at some point during the year.
  20. A strong bullpen is crucial this year. We are going to need to to bail out our 3,4,5 pitchers who could all post 5+ ERA's. With a seemingly weak rotation after Buehrle and Vazquez this is huge. IF this is KW way of allowing Danks and Flloyd to develop at the big league level then he sure is weird. Anyway, not a bad signing, a bit risky, but a good bullpen is crucial.
  21. Yeah right, I love the sox are gonna sign a big name FA pitcher talk. The sox had a hard time giving their own workhorse 4 years and they refuse to give anything but 3 to every one else. What premier FA pitcher is looking for 3 years, try 5 Minumum. The sox take themselves out of the market before they even get there.
  22. Finally, i have actually called comcast and complained multiple times about this. The funniest part is that during the broadcasts they would say WCIU is broadcast in HD presented by Comcast, and then comcast didn't even carry it on its systems in chicago. What a joke.b
  23. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Regardless, the Sox will be easier to watch in 2008 with more quality on base guys and a (i believe) much improved bullpen. yay 81-81 here we come
