I didn't read the article. Did it say where the Sox ranked in embezzled funds this year?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 07:55 AM) He takes his marching order from Kenny Williams, you know, his boss? If your boss tells you to negotiate a deal, that's what you do. I'm not sure what Ozzie has to do with this. Hollywood is Kenny Williams.

I've had the argument against Hahn for the contracts of Teahen and Dunn amongst others with my guy on 35th. My guy insists he that takes his marching orders from Hollywood, which are sign these guys at the best possible price within reason. He said the team on the field is not a reflection of Rick Hahn. As I've mentioned before, he refers to Hahn as being brilliant.

Minnimum 1 game back in loss column after Sunday has to be the goal. Otherwise, it's going to be tough.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) I guess that makes two of us. Not really.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) This is a funny quote, because this is pretty much what was said about the Agon rumors, yet you keep ripping us for posting it. If Cowley gets in my grill a little bit if this turns out not to happen, I won't hold it against him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) So it's been talked about. I'm sure they talk about what they are going to have for lunch that day and eventually change their minds. There is a lot of season left, and a lot would have to fall into place for all 4 of those things to fall into place. I can see it happening. I do not expect it to happen. Look, I'm just passing on what I was told. That it's the only thing my guy heard I thought was interesting. Doesn't mean it's a definite to happen though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) It is plausible that the Sox could support this payroll level at this attendance, especially since they cut 1 dead weight contract in Teahen and are getting some insurance money back on Peavy. They are in a pretty good financial position relative to the other franchises...very low debt load, long-term owner who hasn't played any financial shenanigans to buy the team or while holding it, lots of state assistance in upkeep for the ballpark, outside revenue streams through the fact that they own the parking lots, etc. I believe this to be true. Maybe a modified re-build, swapping Quentin for Viciedo, dealing Danks or Floyd and resigning Buehrle would still be enough to lure LaRussa given the relationship he has with Chairman Reinsdorf.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) So, the decisions you are alluding to can only be made by one guy, Jerry Reinsdorf, who I'm sure goes around blabbing about the changes he's got in store for next season if his team doesn't reach the post season. Glad "your guy" was able to catch wind of it, or maybe Jerry is your guy and you got it from the horse's mouth. Wow, what a scoop, Joe! No scoop. Not like the Gonzalez trade. Just something I was told that definitely has been talked about by those in the know. Clearly, you don't know how the White Sox work. Sure, one guy makes the decision, but there are many who would be privy to these types of discussions. Personally, I can't believe Chairman Reinsdorf would go another year with this payroll which would almost be a requirement for a TLR hiring.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) No he wasn't, and Williams on his own extended Manuel before 2004. You do not hire a new GM and then tell him some other guy who is close to the owner and has 30 plus years in the game is going to be the manager. That makes the GM position beyond weak. It would never happen. Ever. I do think the fact that no one on the coaching staff has been extended does make it look like its do or die for either Guillen, Williams and the coaches or for all of them, but your scenerio is not going to happen. If they cleaned house, no new GM with any self respect would take a job where they had no say in the manager hire. Either way, I really think Tony LaRussa managing the White Sox again, even if Hahn if he where hired, or Williams if he stuck around really wanted him, isn't going to happen. TLR has 2 maybe 3 years left in him as a manager. If JR decides not to rebuild, TLR is the best option to get something out of this moribound bunch. Hahn is tasked with the rebuild after TLR and the big contracts are gone.
-
Take it FWIW, Dick. It absolutely might not happen, but the reason you give for not believing it is weak. Guillen was "forced" on Williams in 2004.
-
A little more background about my conversation, my guy used the word "brilliant" to describe Hahn. He's not thrilled with the idea of TLR replacing Guillen, but it kind of sounded like Williams and Guillen's fate are tied to one another.
-
La Russa/Duncan are a package deal. My guy didn't mention Walker, my guess though is he'd be gone too. Although he did play for La Russa.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Wow, the grass is green and the sky is blue. What a scoop by the underwear gnomes. Granted it's no Adrian Gonzalez deal . . .
-
Take this for what it is worth. Spoke with my guy on 35th today. This is the only scenario he knows that has been discussed. 1.) Guillen/Cooper out (presumably will go to Florida) 2.) Williams moved up or moved out. 3.) Hahn new GM. 4.) La Russa/Duncan hired. La Russa/Duncan hire would mean no rebuild.

. . . The only thing Morel should have locked up for 2012 is his bat.
-
Brett Morel is not a Major League hitter.
-
Brett Morel's ceiling is a Joe Randa-type player. I don't know if you wait around two years for a possible Joe Randa. Third Base still should be considered a priority.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Which is why they dumped their catching prospects. After all, how versatile is a young catching prospect? That's why they dumped Phil hughes and Joba Chamberlain also. They don't have the time to spend years developing these guys into something useful and consistent. Man the return they got on those trades must have been incredible. All the prospects you've mentioned were thought more highly of than Brett Morel.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Which is why the Yankees traded away Brett Gardner and all those catchers. Because they didn't have time to wait on them. Brett Gardner at his worst had value as a 4th OF'er who could play center and run. Morel doesn't have near his versatility.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) Omar...? God why. Here we go . . . More wrong guy is playing stuff when the problem is one of quality not choice.
-
What's funny was Hawk saying the other day that Morel was ahead of Crede at the same stages of their careers. Big market teams don't have time to wait on a prospect like Morel, who one day may be servicable, but doesn't have upside much more than that.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) NOBODY likes Cowley. The guy's a douche. It's not just Soxtalk. Your posting style as of late (especially the Hollywood crap) is basically what Cowley does. I think it is mostly Soxtalk that doesn't like him.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) I would say both our manager and GM are tough-talkers who don't back it up. I don't disagree. Guillen takes an inordinate amount of the heat (even for a manager) though.
-
Cowley got in Soxtalk's grill a little bit and since then no one likes him. Weird stuff.
