QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Please god stop saying Hollywood. I think it's an apt description of our tough-talking GM.
-
QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) The inability for everyone on the roster to not be able to hit soft tossing lefties is a direct reflection on Greg Walker and his strategy for hitting that type of pitcher. I wish it were that simple. I do think though that they could benefit some from a different approach, but again that's Hollywood's call.
-
You're confusing blaming Hollywood with kissing Guillen's ass.
-
Despite what many on Soxtalk believe, there is no lineup combination on this roster that would average 6 runs a game.
-
I thought the problem was Dunn, Guillen's lineup? Looks like things go a bit deeper than that. You lineup gurus ought to look at our 2B and particularly, the sacred cows of this board, the SS, RF'er and of course Hollywood. Bruce Chen is terrible.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 07:43 AM) Yes, but see, there is no law he hit in the #3 spot. 3 spot or 7 spot hardly makes a difference.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) "Hollywood" Guillen isn't exactly helping the situation either by refusing to do something with Dunn. He has been Ozzie's responsibility for 117 games now. What's he going to do with him. Hollywood said the contracts are "his problem, not Ozzie's or Jerry's." Very big of Hollywood, but what he neglected to say was that those contracts remain on Ozzie's 25-man roster and Jerry is obligated to pay them.
-
Hollywood's track record of acquiring big names who contribute is spotty at best. Wonder who scouted Dunn last year? There were warning signs the second half.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) The front of your bullpen has to get you some outs, of course. But if you are at 6 2/3 and you are going to bring in your best set up man in the 8th anyways, who has only pitched 2 innings in the last week and who used to be a starter, you let him go 1 and a 1/3 and call it a day. Due to the Sox slow start they have absolutely no margin for error. They just cant have the risk of that run scoring, because that may have been the last threat the Orioles have. Itd be one thing if it was the start of the 6th (no outs) or earlier. I just really think Ozzie is clueless when it comes to the pen, maybe one of the worst ive ever seen. Balta, They did use Ohman, but there is no rationale for not using Sale. The arguments that were presented was that Sale has been used to much, but the facts are that Sale was used least through today. Ohman has him by a full inning (in the last week). Just shows that Ozzie really has no idea whats going on. There is no reason for Ohman to be a part of the bullpen if he isn't used to get Markakis out with a runner on 3rd in the 7th. Ohman has been pretty good too, much better than I thought he'd be.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) So of the choices, Sale has the best stats against lefties and has been used the least. You have 4 outs to get to Santos and Sale has only pitched 2 innings in the last week. You have to bring in your best there. I could understand if the choice had been Ohman over Thornton, but Sale should have been used there. You have to get big outs from the front of your bullpen too.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) It's not safe to run them each out there 120+ games each season? It is August . . . maybe 3 out of every 4 games now,
-
If Soxtalk posters ran the bullpen, Thornton, Sale, and Santos would all be on the DL.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) Unless Paulie was REALLY hurting from trying to bust it down to 3B on Quentin's "single." Konerko had to be pinch-run for. He can barely trot to first.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) But Lillibridge scored the tying run, it would've been Paulie's slow ass trying to go on that sac fly. If the plan is to use Lillibridge as a defensive replacement for Dunn, DO NOT pinch-run him for the DH. Losing the DH when you have De Aza and Vizquel to available to pinch-run is terible managing by Guillen, Leaving Dunn at first is a better alternative than losing the DH in a 1-run game.
-
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) you would prefer dunn at 1b? Yes. Or pr Vizquel for Konerko.
-
Lillibridge at first means they lost the Dh. Plain nonsensical move by Guillen.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Why not? The owner is misguided.
-
Buck Showalter has no chance to turn the Orioles around. Sad situation there.
-
Let's not delude ourselves, very bad Twins team. Anything less than 8-2 over their next 10, will dash hopes.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) ? ? ? Most times with a runner on 2nd and no one on out the manager just tells the hitter to get the runner to third. Lillibridge chose to bunt instead of trying to hit the ball to right.
-
More than likely Ozzie wanted Lillibridge to move the runner over. Lillibridge chose to bunt.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) Why on Earth wouldn't it? If Strasburg comes back in late September and is throwing 91 in a start and doesn't have the great changeup, will you say that his stuff wouldn't get better over the offseason? Difference in injuries and wear and tear in these two. It's like comparing apples to I don't know oranges, maybe?
-
Peavy's stuff has been nothing more than ordinary this year. Considering that he has been pitching on 6 days rest most of the year, I don't know that it will get better over the offseason.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) It's not even on the same planet as that of Rios and Dunn and Peavy Damning the front office with faint praise. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) So? It's a(nother) regrettable contract.
