QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) what exactly did he just dig up in that made up scenario? This . . .
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) How is this guy allowed to cover the team still? I understand that everyone has a right to tweet, but is it not clear that Cowley clearly cannot cover the team objectively at this point? Regardless of his viewpoint this is the kind of stuff reporters should be digging up.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Their contracts say they do deserve a spot on the bench at least . Not going to eat all that money for all those years. But the same reasoning doesn't say they must continue to get AB's this season while they are very bad and there are better options. I don't know that there are better options right now. When Quentin comes back that's a different story.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Marty, do you think Ozzie's "punishment" of Rios' continued lack of hustle and paying attention was severe enough? Rios has hustled since his benching, he just hasn't been very good.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) i think their stats are justification enough Their stats say they don't even deserve a spot on the roster. Why are they even on the bench?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) That is the biggest indictment of all against Ozzie, not for him. He has all of these really high priced players on the team, who have been awful, and he keeps playing them. That is a reflection on his job performance personally. If they were on the last years of their contracts, I might agree with you. These guys are going to be around for a while, how do you justify not playing them the rest of this year and opening 2012 with them as starters?
-
Let's be honest here, this is an extraordinarily difficult team to manage because of the awful performances of three of the four highest paid players.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) i somewhat agree with you that spacing the holes out is better than bunching them, but rios at cleanup is a f***ing travesty, as evidenced by his "production" last night Rios was 2-5 with a double and RBI batting 4th on Friday . . .
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) Is there any boneheaded decision by Ozzie that you wouldn't rationalize? Yes. I thought replacing Dunn with Lillibridge and losing the DH was incredibly stupid, said so on this site.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) Next time you do it, send me a PM a day or so in advance and I will pin it until gametime. Just dont tell Gage, he hates pinned stuff Will do. Pinning it like that though man, puts a lot of pressure on me.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) when cowley put this on twitter this morning, i knew who was going to post it on soxtalk immediately. i dont understand why he continues to completely absolve guillen and hammer kw when they both are to blame. and how can you sit there with a straight face and say guillen is trying to win games after seeing him bat rios in the cleanup spot for a week. that is ridiculous I was surprised it wasn't posted already. As far as batting Rios 4th, you have more outs in that lineup than him and maybe it's best you don't bat them - Rios, Morel, Beckham - back-to-back-to back.
-
Interesting if only because it's the first I've seen speculated in the local media that Williams might be gone. Per Cowley: Link

Waited for one you guys to show. Oh well, maybe we'll do it Sept. 9th.

I know I'm not the most popular poster on this site so I'd like to make a peace offering tonight. I'll be by the Churros stand tonight (section 154-55?) for the bottom of the 2nd and the first person that says "hey, Marty", I'll buy them a beer. I'll be in a gray shirt, green Sox hat.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Its managing baseball, not splitting an atom. For the love of God, Sandberg knows his way around a major league clubhouse. I don't know how getting signs from a dugout to give to a hitter or runner is going to make him more prepared. Of course, that did work for Terry Bevington and Mike Quade. Oh wait....... I'm not saying I would hire the guy, but he did what a lot of guys wouldn't, he went back to riding buses. He may not get a job, but he's earned interviews. The only reason a team would interview him for manager would be because of his name. He needs to be a coach first.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) Tony La Russa barely had a cup of coffee on a major league coaching staff and was promoted to coach the Sox from AAA after working up through the minors. Whitey Herzog was in player development, primarily. Point is, many different paths to managerial success. New blood has to come from somewhere. I'm guessing that the idea of anything Cub in a Sox uni is your real objection. 30 years ago things were different. I'd prefer Martinez to be the next Sox manager all things being equal. I believe he was a former Cub, so your guess is wrong.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:33 PM) Huh? Porque no? Been a success everywhere he's been in the minor leagues. Means nothing. Bench or even third base coach is by far better preperation to manage in the majors than managing in the minors is.
-
Sandberg has no business even being interviewed for a managerial position.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) Marty, you still hearing Ozzie to Florida? Everyone in media seems to think Ozzie won't return, including Buster O. last nght. Last I heard from my guy was what I posted here. I heard Bernstein on the SCORE Friday say that the Sox will try to get compensation from the Marlins. I got the impression from my guy that changes would be announced shortly after they were mathimatically eliminated in order to appease the fans.

Cowley is right about Williams. 100% right. You might not like the messenger, but that doesn't matter.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) I think if Kenny would of had his way Viciedo would have been up here 2 months ago. But Ozzie and his infinite wisdom thought that was a bad idea. What is Kenny "The Genius" Williams's job then? What is he responsible for?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Really? Because his last two products (Lilli and De Aza) are our best defensive OF. I think Buddy Bell is bad at his job.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) How on Earth are you coming to that evaluation? What player has Buddy Bell said is a solid defensive OF who has then come up and played defense like Juan Pierre? Buddy Bell vouched for Teahen's defense at 3B before he was traded for.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Impartial scouting reports say otherwise. He will be tolerable out there if he hits. Unfortunately, I believe Buddy Bell thinks Viciedo has become a solid OF'er. I have no faith that Buddy Bell could distinguish a solid defensive OF'er from one who was not.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) Then Marty, there have been a lot of "stupid" White Sox fans this season. And maybe a lot more are considering the economic ROI of spending on the Sox rather than saving, paying down credit card debt or using it for a vacation or big screen HD tv, etc. I don't care if people by tickets or not. Those that don't however are no smarter than those that do.
