QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) That 2nd sentence contradicts everything you've been saying about Kenny "The Genius" Williams. Squirt, Kenny "The Genius" Williams scouted and signed Dunn. Whether you like it or not, he's responsible for him being on this roster. The contracts of Dunn, Rios, and Peavy are firable offenses. Just as Guillen missing the playoffs three consecutive years in a major market is a fireable offense.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) Ugh. Fathom you are a successful grown man who knows the ways of the world. And you think Ozzie has the option to truly bench $14 mill a year and $12 mill a year which, forgive me if I'm wrong, are what Dunn n Rios are making? Just because of one sentence uttered by KW in the media? That he gave Oz his blessing to bench the 2 megamillionares? The problem with benching them is you are not going to win it without them. Might play better for a bit, but you're not going to get the production expected from Rios and Dunn before the season began from anyone at Charlotte.

Santos can't throw multiple innings and is a closer in name only. He is Jessie Crain. Deal him while his value is inflated.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) I could absolutely see that having been the case. Not with the way Detroit has turned it up.

The Return of Adam Dunn, 9/05. 12:05

At least Dunn competed in that AB . . . -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) It is. Just select both of them. Not the same as selecting 'both' option.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 01:54 AM) I cant imagine how anyone could possibly think that a different manager would have changed anything about this season.. Like I said, they are just tired of his act Yep, the idea the Guillen has held this team back from a division championship is crazy. He should be fired because three consecutive years without a playoff appearance in a major market dictates that.
-
A bad manager is easier to recover from than a bad GM. Guillen has to go, but it can't stop there. Williams has put together a team that no manager could win with.

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) I'd trade Danks, Floyd, and Quentin this offseason...as a starting point. Exactly. Have to throw Ramirez, Thornton, and Santos out there too. This rebuild can be relatively painless given the division. The goal should be to have a solid core in place by the time Peavy, Rios, Dunn, Konerko, Buehrle (re-sign) contracts are off the books.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) But then they have to go with another one year guy and they are opening their new park. I would think if their interest has been genuine, they would like to have Ozzie in place on opening day next season. The Sox have more to lose by keeping Guillen than the Marlins have to gain by hiring him.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) I disagree. The Sox don't have to do s*** with Ozzie...he's under contract. If the Marlins are banking on Ozzie (which I'm hedging they are) to open their new era and spiffy new ballpark why wouldn't they give compensation. Not that I really give a s***...but don't act like the Sox have zero leverage. Guillen isn't going to manage the Sox in 2012. Marlins can just say we'll wait for 2013 to hire him.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) He rarely post on this board now-a-days. And when he does, he usually is very good. Disagree.
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Oh God. f***ing shut up already. You hump Ozzie's leg better than Cowley could ever dream of. You're wrong. I never respected your opinion on this board anyway.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) This stuff happened under Manuel too. The organization maybe doesn't take into account how players handle pressure or have been in pressure situations. Big money free agents from losing organizations, well what do they have to play for other than a larger contract. Absolutely. It's as much if not more of a trait of KW teams as it is Guillen's.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) Won't be fired during year, as that would make it near impossible for the Sox to get any possible compensation back from Florida. What compensation are they going to get from Florida at this point? Not Morrison they said no to that last year. Also, if the plan is to get rid of KW you can't do that and keep Guillen. Sox have no leverage in this with Fla.

If Guillen is not fired at the end of this road trip I think it only means Williams is gone too. I know he gets a LOT of flack, but chairman Reinsdorf is not a dumb guy. He knows massive changes need to be made.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) I just threw up. There's no way that's viable. It's the only way to rebuild right. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) I was really anti-La Russa, and still am sorta. But if I knew it was going to be a year or two just to get the Kenny/Ozzie taste out of our collective mouths, I'd take it. This is my feeling with McEwing serving as LaRussa's bench coach and taking over in 2014, 2015 at the latest.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) I am sure we will be seeing plenty of "Here's what I would do for 2012" threads in the future but I just looked at a payroll spreadsheet. I had no idea that the Sox had put more money on the back of Dunn's contract and that he and Rios are here till 2014. I can't see their value being raised to the point where the Sox could actually trade them as they will be older then and own no-trade clauses. Is it realistic to think that the Sox will be shopping this winter to dump Quentin and Thornton while letting Pierre and Buehrle walk? As much as I believe Buehrle could continue pitching as well as he has into his mid 30s, I doubt he would be able to take a paycut or stay here for a hometown discount especially when he has always been rumored to go back to St. Louis. Why is it unrealistic to Guillen that Lillibridge couldn't play every day in right field? Does he not have the range to throw runners out? Will he just hit poorly since the pitchers will pick up on him in the scouting reports? Stating my position clearly, it would be great to get rid of both KW and Ozzie and replace them with Hahn and somebody other than that drunken assclown LaRussa (and please, not Bobby Valentine). Go young next year and play the guys who could succeed or fail at lower dollar amounts than some of the clowns we have played this past season. Build around Peavy, Rios, Dunn, Konerko, and Buehrle. Trade Danks, Floyd, Quentin, Ramirez, Thornton and Santos. -
Not that it would ever happen, but Fisk has no business managing.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) The Blue Jays and Orioles have been rebuilding for 15 years. You like a .500 team with not much upside. -

An expensive .500 team is the worst position to be in. Far worse than rebuilding. -
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) No, but then you certainly can't blame the GM for not forseeing that Dunn would be hitting in the .160s either. And it is the coaches jobs to spot what a struggling player is doing wrong and offer help in correcting it. And if the player still can't perform his job, it's the manager's job to field a lineup that gives the team it's best chance to succeed. What is the GM's job?
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) It's just too bad Ozzie and his coaching staff couldn't get Dunn and Rios to perform at a level even 75% of their career norms. Why are you such a staunch Williams backer?
