QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) He actually was talking about players as being his primary stuff. I am going with it being obvious AJ. Players too. I thought it was AJ ehen he said a prominent player pulled him aside in the clubhouse and said he was happy he ripped the GM. AJ was in Charlotte though Wednesday, right? Next guess then would be Buehrle.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Not with Ozzie as the manager... The manager talks to all the beat reporters at the same time.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Then I guess Cowley is lashing out and attacking the GM because he blew his access and is a petulant child. Maybe. Seems as though Cowley has another source in the front office because in the interview he said he goes to Guillen and says "here is what I'm hearing . . ."
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Exactly. So being negative about the manager who you need to survive daily should be worse than the guy you need to talk to say once a month. It doesn't make sense otherwise. The big stories come from the GM.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) What was said about T. Braxton? Probably just another past-their-prime former superstar that KW pursued, is that what the story is? +1
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) That also doesn't make any sense. Don't they need Ozzie more as a source since they talk to him every day? Why would they write negatives about Oz then? Manager has daily press conferences. GM can more or less pick and choose who he talks too.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Where the hell is JR in all of this? Take some action for once. How many years of this crap between Ozzie, Kenny, and Marty34 do we have to live through? Hillarious! Kicking off your long weekend with a funny.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) The problem comes in presenting Ozzie's side of the story as the only side and as the complete truth and consistently bashing KW with petty personal insults. Just because Ozzie is your only source doesn't mean you need to parrot everything he says uncritically. It also does not mean it's untrue. According to Cowley, other reporters know what's going on and won't report it because they need Williams as a source. That would not surprise me at all.
-
Spiegal comes off as a goof. Basically blaming Cowley for reporting what he knows.
-
QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) The whole thing was a draw, IMO. The winner was the one you agree with. Both made valid points, and both sounded like irrational idiots. Nobody was going to be swayed by that whole little bit. Most likely the case as always with these things. Waiting for podcast.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) LOL Only a Guillen would take the exact opposite from the situation. Everyone seems to think Cowley got butt raped, to put it lightly. But you have to admit too, Soxtalk is the last place anything involving Cowley could be judged fairly.
-
Peavy for Zambrano + some cash makes sense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Well yeah, but you always give up a little to sign early. The comparables suggest 3/$30. I think if Freddy hit the market he'd have gotten 4 years. Remember at the time he was a much in demand pitcher.
-
Clement 3y/$26M Freddy hits the open market I'm convinced the Sox are outbid for him by the Yankees or Red Sox
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) That doesn't mean the Sox don't win the World Series in 05 though. $10 million gets you a pretty good pitcher in 2005. I'll take my chances with Big Game Freddy as opposed to $10M. Not only that, but Freddy was later traded for Gavin Floyd.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Was that really below market at the time? Pavano for one signed a 4y/$38M deal with the Yankees before the 2005 season.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) So Ozzie saving the team maybe $10 million over a span of 3 years makes up for making the decision that lost us the division last year? Those two don't equate. You're not thinking things through. Garcia doesn't agree to a below-market extention the trade never happens.
-
As long as we're going over roster moves by Guillen. Shouldn't he get credit for the well-below market value contract extension (3y/$27M) Freddy Garcia signed in 2004? That more than makes up for his Thome decision.

Exec's believe both Oz and Kenny could be gone

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) I wonder if Greg and Marty and Joe and Oney realize Ozzie has averaged less than 2 wins a season more than Jerry Manuel and Manuel never had a team ranked as high in total payroll as Ozzie's lowest ranked payroll team. Good riddance Ozzie. What's the comparison between Williams and Schuler? Similar if not worse for Williams. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) I have a real hard time blaming KW for the production of Dunn and the injury to Peavy. Then no changes should be made. No one is to blame here. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Yes you can. Don't.Play.Them. You've yet to come up with some bs defense of that. Simplistic. Look at how well the Twins are playing with their top 3 paid players not performing. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) I will add...PECOTA had the White SOX in 3rd place, as a .500 team, because it predicted a falloff from an aging Paul Konerko. So the Sox are slightly outperforming PECOTA on record, but their run differential (-2) is right where Pecota thought it would be. So this team is not underachieving.

Earl Weaver was all about the 3-run homer.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) In terms of KW being removed...in my opinion, it all comes down to what he told JR when he convinced him to spend the money last year. If he told him that he could spend $125 million and be competitive but that he'd still give it a 50/50 shot of winning the division because of these caveats (Peavy's arm, Konerko having a down year, whatever)...then the Chairman made the call on spending that money. If he told him that "I'll stake my reputation that if you spend $125 million we will win the Central..." well... Production from Rios and especially Dunn were givens. I also think the Hudson trade hurts Williams here. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) If Hahn wants LaRussa that's fine, but Reinsdorf should not force his hand. Especially when we're talking about a rookie GM and veteran manager. That just has trouble written all over it. I think LaRussa would be manager just through the bad contracts, couple years. I've heard a scenario where he'd hire Joe McEwing to be his bench coach to take over for him after that.
