  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) Well at least one "columnist" would be afraid to do it for offending his "sources". Williams is one of Rozner's sources. No surprise who he sides with.
  2. Maybe it's KW's act that has the organization weary. He's the GM, he should take responsibility for the team he put together. Instead, there's this notion that this is somehow Ozzie's team presumably because Ozzie says "we can win with this team"
  3. The key to getting a top prospect in a trade is to get a bidding war going. All things considered, Thornton fetches us the best return without creating the biggest hole. Think of what the Rays would give to keep him out of Yankees pinstripes or vice versa.
  4. Take this FWIW. A friend of mine who works security told me A.J.'s locker was cleaned out when he was in the clubhouse before the game. I'm sure our local media will have the scoop.
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) It's still hard to believe how much we heard about Nix having a great glove before he got here. Atrocious from day one at all positions. He hasn't got enough AB's though. Blame Ozzie. The most underrated reason for this bad season so far has been our defense at third base and this arrangement has NOTHING to do with Ozzie.
  6. How many times this year have the Sox scored a runner from first on a double (or triple)? The only time I can remember is Tuesday against the Twins.
  7. So where does Teahen hurt us the least for last 2 years of his contract? (Cubs are not an option) I say he's some part of a platoon at first.
  8. John McGraw couldn't win with this team. Ozzie kind of reminds me of Whitey Herzog. When Herzog's Cardinals weren't good enough to win they fell like a rock probably due in part to Whitey's disinterest. When given a team that was capable of winning there was no better manager than Herzog. I can live with that. Keep Ozzie and start the rebuild.
  9. My opinion is Ozzie would put Vizquel at third, but that would be showing up a front office that said Teahan can play third and gave him a 3-year deal.
  10. Not that I was unhappy with the Mitchell pick, but I really wanted the Sox to take Mike Trout. He's killing the ball in Class A.
  11. Pierre just needs more AB's. He's a .300 hitter and the least of this team's concerns. Kidding.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) Yes it did. The Angels had a need at DH, they've long been rumored/interested in Konerko, the White Sox wanted to acquire one more piece for a deal for Gonzalez, and the Sox needed to clear up some money. It was about a 1,000:1 shot at working simply because there were so many good DH options on the open market, but the Sox talking to the Angels about Konerko (probably a Konerko for Brandon Wood swap, or something along those lines) actually does make sense. It made no sense. Why would the Angels want to trade a prospect of any value for Konerko when there were better options on the free-agent market who could be had for less $$$ than Konerko.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Plus JR already threw out the sticking their necks out financially line. Their advanced sale is lagging, big time. They really needed a decent start. I think the payroll will be -$15-25 million lower next year if this year is a total flop. That could be just attrition with Konerko, AJP and Jenks easily discarded, or it could be something bigger than that. As I posted in the gamethread, I received an out of the blue how are you doing how's everything call from my ticket rep on Friday. I have not received one of those in 7 years. I'm guessing they are very concerned. I'm sure they are concerned and things can certainly change, but one of the organization insiders I talked to a little over a week ago said ticket sales were fine, above offseason expectations, considering the economy and how they finished last year.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 2, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) BTW, just think about what Gonzalez does for this offense. He single-handedly changes everything because he essentially takes Pierre out and puts him on the bench where he belongs. R Rios CF R Beckham 2B L Gonzalez 1B R Konerko DH R Jones RF R Quentin LF L Pierzynski C R Ramirez SS L Teahen 3B Look at that lineup and, once AJ and Beckham get back to normal, suddenly the black hole of suck all but disappears. Impressive lineup, but I'd probably go Q, Gonzalez, Konerko, Teahen, Jones, 3-7. As you said getting Pierre on the bench is key. It's the easiest solvable problem they have. If you think Quentin, Beckham, and to a lesser degree Ramirez and AJ are going to hit and Peavy and Floyd are front of the rotation pitchers you deal for Gonzalez.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) I'm all for a total overhaul of GM, Manager, and the rest of the coaching staff. You're giving away the the finale of "The Club."
  16. Is Buehrle going to be another example of Chairman Reinsdorf being right about not giving pitchers long-term deals?
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) For some reason, I have a feeling Santos would be in trade talks sadly. I think this would be a terrific use of Santos.
  18. In Cowley's defense, the Konerko/Angels part of the rumor was idiotic.

  20. Don't like the Yanks hitting off Buehrle after seeing Danks yesterday. I wish they would've put Freddy between them.
  21. Teahan needs to go to LF, Vizquel/Nix platoon at third and if they are some how still in at the end of may try to shake loose a third baseman.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) Interesting, because the only player that Bell should know really well (and have approved acquiring) would be Teahen, and he's been pretty decent. Bell is adamant that he can play third base. My source said paraphrasing, how can anyone look at Teahen and be so stubborn in that opinion. My source went on to say it's an example of the kind of talent evaluation that Bell provides that has our minor leagues all screwed up.
  23. I might add that my highly placed source believes Buddy Bell's input in the make up of this year's team is as much to blame for where we are now as anyone's. That includes Ozzie. Needless to say my source is NOT a Buddy Bell fan.
  24. Buddy Bell would be the interim manager per a highly placed source. Source also said Ozzie goes only if he wants to.
  25. Scary thing is Teahen, Jones, and Konerko have all been better than expected these first two weeks. At least they're getting on base, but I wonder if that's just a function of the opposing pitcher pitching around them because there are so many holes in this lineup. Quentin has to hit a lot closer to the MVP candidate he was in '08 than the way he has since he broke his hand. Pierre needs a permanent seat on the bench and AJP needs to be put on notice.
