I think they should seriously consider moving Beckham to the 3 spot and build the lineup around him. They need his doubles to be driving in runs, not just setting up runs Something like Pierre Kotsay Beckham Quentin Konerko AJ Rios Teahen Ramirez If Rios has turned it around you have the option to flip him and Konerko.

Jenks has MRI on Right Calf, no structural damage
Marty34 replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (joeynach @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) Whats wrong his 92-93 mph fastball doesnt do it for you anymore. No. When his velocity returns to mid-90+ on a consistent basis I will stop worrying about the closer position. I do not think that is going to happen. -

I'd rather an MRI done on his velocity. -
How many times has Cowley written that this has been the most boring camp ever? I say this is staged and that Oney will be the star of the TV show and it will launch his acting career. :-)

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...on-resigns.html Something about this rings hollow. If there was all this hostility between KW and Ozzie I don't think there is any way in the world JR would give the go-ahead for MLB to do a show about the Sox front office. Could this drama be staged for the TV cameras?

Posted at 6:00 "They say for now it's a sprained ankle," bench coach and acting White Sox manager Joey Cora said. "They don't think it's a break but they're checking the ligaments." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al...383582598_x.htm

Bill James ranks the Sox as #9 in Young Talent Inventory, up from 25 a year ago. Bad new is the Twins are 3. (Scary: the Yankees rank 7) http://insidethedodgers.mlblogs.com/archiv...gers_11_in.html

Garfien: Sox made serious play for Halladay
Marty34 replied to IamPabloOzuna's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unless I didn't hear KW right, he intimated the deal was done. Garfien speculated that they just couldn't agree on the numbers for a contract extension with Halladay. -
7 Pierre 4 Beckham 9 Quentin B Delgado 3 Konerko 2 AJ 8 Rios 5 Teahan 6 Ramirez If they can sign Delgado I think the Sox would have a chance to be amongst the top teams in the league. A pretty nice offseason for KW considering all his moves had some "what is he thinking?" to them and most importantly he didn't have to part with Hudson, Flowers, etc... to get it done.

QUOTE (Voros @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) To me guys like Kotsay and Vizquel and Teahen haven't filled any holes. They aren't any better than options the White Sox already had available to them. Then when it comes to guys like Pierre, you can get a better player for the same kind of money. Finally when it comes to Putz, you're spending a premium to fill a not all that critical position on the team on a guy whose recent history ain't all that great. I don't like any of it. They traded for Teahan because they wanted to move Beckham to second. Getz is limited because he can only play second and Fields had worn out his welcome here and shown he couldn't play third. I'm not huge fan of extending Teahan, but was there a better option at third for the money? I'm not so sure. Vizquel was signed in part as a mentor for Ramirez. Ramirez had problems with the nuances of the position so the Sox are hoping Vizquel can help smooth out those rough edges, besides he's still a good glove at three positions something they also needed. Putz won't be the third man out of the pen if Jenks falters. Coco Crisp is on the verge of signing for $5M with the A's. The Pierre deal isn't the overpay it appeared to be. As far as Nick Johnson goes, it's folly to think the Yankees would lose out on a player they wanted over 500K. If the Sox wanted him who knows how much they'd have to offer him.

Lots of moving parts here, but the two best fits for the Sox offense might still be in play. One rumor has it that the Red Sox Signed Lackey in part to be able to free up pitching to deal for Gonzalez. That would take the Red Sox out of the market for a 1B. As far as Upton goes, offer the Rays the same thing you offered the Padres for Gonzalez and see if they bite. That seems like KW strategy when it comes to deals and it's not a bad one if you think about it. "Players/prospects A, B, and C were offered for Gonzalez, you're getting a better deal right out of the box because we're only asking for Upton" :-) Hudson, Flowers, + might be able to get it done ... 9 Upton 3 Johnson 4 Beckham 7 Quentin B Konerko 2 AJ 8 Rios 5 Teahan 6 Ramirez

Report: Sox, 7 other Teams Interested in Takashi Saito
Marty34 replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jenks: preferably dealt, non-tendered at worst. -
Cubs also interested. Would be a nice pick up, perhaps the Sox could offer him the closer's spot as incentive to take less money.

http://www.i-yankees.com/?p=11938 A couple of things: 1.) Could the Sox top offer better the Red Sox? Trading for Ramirez, signing Nick Johnson, resigning Pods. Lineup: 7 Pods 4 Beckham 6 Ramirez 3 Johnson 9 Quentin B Konerko 2 AJ 8 Rios 5 Teahan I estimate that Ramirez, Johnson, and Pods would add $16M to the payroll which could be partially offset by saving $7M and non-tendering Jenks. Payroll would be at ~$90M pending arbitration cases 2.) If the Red Sox do trade for Ramirez it would have to take them out of the running for Adrian Gonzalez based on the prospects they'd have to give up opening the door for a trade to the Sox. I really expect KW to find his #3 hitter for the next 5 years this offseason. Ramirez, Gonzalez, or Upton.

Manny's the cheapest "free agent" out there. Rolling the dice on him given where the Sox are makes all the sense in the world. Beckham-Ramirez-Quentin would make a very formidable 2-4.

Young, Studly, Under Team Control Outfielders
Marty34 replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Think LH middle-of-order type hitter first, position second. Sox have a lot of movable parts defensively, no too mention a DH opening. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) Gavin Floyd's salary for 2010 is less than $3M. Do you really think he will be moved? How else do you get 1 of 2 or 3 hitters the offense desperately needs?
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) We just got an awesome rotation. Why do people even think about messing with it? I have a feeling you're going to be disappointed if you want to see this rotation together in 2010. Floyd or Hudson almost assuredly have to go to fill a key hole or two. The question I guess isn't "would you trade ...", it's "what's an appropriate return for ...." Or "would you rather keep Floyd or Hudson?"
-
Would you trade Floyd for Gamel? Move Beckham to short and deal Ramirez for a good starting prospect?
-
Would it take more or less than say: Fields, Retherford, and Ely? Sign Nick Johnson and my lineup would be: 2B Getz 1B Johnson 3B Beckham LF Quentin RF Hermidia DH Konerko C A.J. CF Rios SS Ramirez

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 11:02 PM) I can't believe you are pinning this on Jenks. The set up men were way bigger goats than Jenks. And the hitting was horribly non clutch at times, especially on that road trip from hell and the killer 6 games vs. the O's and Royals at home preceding that series. The hitting definitely deserves more criticism than Bobby. Also, the defense deserves way more negativity than Bobby. And even my man Jermaine ...he's a bigger goat than Bobby. Jenks had an extremely soft 29 saves, check the game logs. On top of that, he only converted 83% of his save opportunities. Considering that Jenks is 28 he was counted on to be part of the core of this year's team. I'm putting the largest single share of player blame on him.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) True, Bolt, but with all the veterans we have on the team and the addition of Rios with plenty of time left in the season, with Peavy ready to lead us to some important Sept. victories and anchor the postseason rotation we should have won this horses*** division. I don't think the season was a success. If Jenks and Fernando Rodney switched teams the Sox win the division even as bad as they played this year. The point though isn't to win a bad division, it's to be able to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox and in my view the Sox took a huge step toward that with the acquisition of Peavy and the performances of Beckham, Danks, and Floyd. Buehrle, Konerko, and A.J. will more than likely regress some, but that could be offset by improvements by Rios and Quentin. It should not be difficult to find an upgrade for Dye to go along with a competent DH.

The Red Sox would beat any trade Kenny could come up with. Rogers has to know this.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) Alot of positives to the season the but season overall was a failure due to the weakness of the division and the talent that didnt play up to its abilities this year. But the talent that didn't show up wasn't really a part to our next championship team anyway. Quentin should get a pass for his injury. Rios though is a key of course, but I think he'll bounce back to his career norms which will be enough with his defense in center.
-
Floyd and Danks continuing to progress were the most important things going into this season. I thought it was important for one of them to turn into a legit #1 for the Sox to be a championship contender, but then KW traded for Peavy and well that speaks for itself . . . With Beckham being a fixture at third for the next 10 years and Ramirez improvement defensively at short the in the second half I think the Sox are closer to contending than anyone thinks. I can't wait for spring training.
