  1. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) No, but for example: I'm an Arizona Cardinals fan (I know, insert joke/comment) and I asked the scouting friend about a QB that I want the Cards to draft next year. He just so happened to be working the guy out the following week. He texted me, the guy has issues and is not the answer. That doesn't necessarily mean he's right. The guy may turn out to be great but it seems like this is much more credible source than using Chuck, serving beers at the local bar saying I watched the guy and I don't think he's any good, as a source. I don't care if posters on this board question my information. I do find it interesting that I'm being held to a higher standard than other folks around here.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) Hahn is a man of numbers (or so they say). I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone, especially somebody who appreciates the numbers side of the game, finds Ozzie Guillen to have good on-field managerial skills. If this were the case Hahn must really not like his current manager who is far more anti-numbers than Guillen.
  3. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) Rock doesn't spill a ton of information, only that he hears certain things about certain players. And I'm fine with that. However, from what I've seen over the years, Rock's sources have been pretty good. I don't know that it's any better or worse than other people's "sourced" information. Anyway, most of the stuff that gets discussed never happens, does that mean you have a bad source?
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) I got an email last night promoting the 7 game pack as low as $56. They are tryin HARD. And i think it's working. I hope it's working, but I'm skeptical about the advance sales so far. Seems like the same "best seats" are available on the 14 game plan as were available last week.
  5. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Whatever. I guess you could be. Maybe from now on, instead of saying my source, you can say my secret source. The mystery will make it more intriguing . Ok.
  6. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) I wouldn't be surprised that Hahn likes Guillen. Guillen is very likeable from most accounts, as he has a personality that is very very rare to the game, in that you see him buddy up with non-baseball people(that is just not the MLB way). Ozzie always saw himself as part of the general populace. There's slightly more than 0% chance he ever manages the Sox again, but it would not surprise me to hear Hahn is a fan. You get used to people when you're around them for years at the workplace. Hahn thinks very highly of his managerial skills too.
  7. QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) is there a reason you don't want to answer the question? I don't want to answer this question.
  8. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) I didn't say that. I just asked what relation your source has to the Sox? If you think I've made up the information how would knowing the relation my source has to the Sox change that? I could just be making up my source.
  9. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Who's your source? Not by name, but what relation does he have to the Sox? It seems to me people like to think they know something or are more relevant because they know somebody. I post on a football site all the time and I'll tell them exactly who my source is. I have a friend who use to coach for the Bengals and another guy who is a scout for Jacksonville. I use them as references all the time. They don't care. It's a fan forum, what's on here doesn't affect them. Is you source someone in the Sox upper management, the clubhouse , serves Hahn drinks at the bar what. Legitimize it. Otherwise anybody can have a source. I posted, I think it was prior to last year, using my frined who's a sports writer for the Columbus Dispatch as a source when the Sox and Reds were talking trade. He even put what he told me, and what I put on here, in his column the following week. Turns out he was wrong on all counts. Ok, I just won't post what I hear.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) Marty, I actually think you're an intelligent baseball fan. Unfortunately, the minute you came on here and claimed that Hahn would ever consider bringing back Guillen as manager, you lost all credibility of possibly having a real source. There are so many reasons Hahn would never bring him back, but let me just name three. 1) Loyalty to KW over Guillen 2) Hahn is a numbers guy, Guillen goes by instinct 3) Oney called him and other members of the front office "nerds" Guillen will never be back with this organization as long Hahn & KW are around. If you are honestly suggesting otherwise, then you are some sort of troll, because you know too much about baseball to be this stupid about this particular issue. When my source told me that Hahn thinks very highly of Guillen I was surprised too, but this is a guy who has been around them so he would know.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) My eastcoast and westcoast sources are currently not returning my calls, otherwise i'd chime in here Have you tried texting them?
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) Everyone knows Upton is available, so just by MO, the White Sox have inquired. But minor leaguers like what they would get from Viciedo are not what Arizona covets. That's what my source says. The D-Backs want a major league SS, not prospects. They have been working on trades for Cabrera and Andrus but can't get those done. If your source was legit, he would know the DBacks would either have to be interested in Ramirez or De Aza/Viciedo/Floyd would have to be dangled to a team for a SS of Arizona's liking, as part of the package. For a guy who wants nothing more than to re-build, stating that you would gut the Sox entire minor leagues except for one player for Justin Upton is beyond curious. And even if Upton was acquired, if he was anywhere near the player he could be, the chances of him and Hawkins playing together for more than one season, if that, are remote. He's signed for 3 more seasons. Hawkins is in the minors at least the next 2. Gut what farm system? Trayce Thompson are you serious?
  13. My source gets held to a higher standard by the posters that don't like me. That's the way it goes on here.
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:25 AM) Has Marty's "source" ever been right about anything? I honestly don't know. Has Rock's source every been right? What about yours?
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) You guys are ruining the fact I have Marty on ignore. Ozzie rubbed all of mgmt wrong, he's not coming back. I haven't heard anything about Upton but I've heard a lot of chatter about our OF'ers. Personally I don't think we have anything close to what it takes to get him and we aren't going to rape another team with our guys for better guys to flip for a guy like that. That's Xbox stuff. Please Rock take me off ignore.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) That doesn't hurt me. Just don't be too surprised if neither Upton or Guillen are ever collecting White Sox paychecks. Is that what your source says?
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Except Oney didn't think too much of Hahn because he didn't play professionally. Hahn can say and play nice with Ozzie all he wants, but he is far too smart to bring him back to the dugout. I'll trust my source on the Hahn/Guillen relationship over your speculation.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) KW said some really nice things as well. It's easy when he's not your problem anymore. There was no problems between Hahn and Guillen.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) Is this the same guy who told you Hahn wants to bring Ozzie back? did you see the really nice things Hahn said about Guillen after he was fired? I was tempted to post it.
  20. The other thing I was told is even if they can't get Upton, they wouldn't hesitate to deal Viciedo and De Aza and keep the package of players they got in return.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) Upton is substantially better than Rios, and he's like 25, and his down year last year, which was about as good as an above average year for Rios, happened when he was playing through injuries. I'm not sure why you think Rios is as good as Upton -- look at their stats. But, the question, for me, isn't whether or not Upton is better, but whether or not Upton is enough better to justify paying big for him. The marginal upgrade looks like it may not be worth it. Although, the only way I can imagine getting him would be moving Viciedo/De Aza for prospects or in a multi-team deal, so it may not be a question of upgrading Rios but upgrading one of the others. The most important thing about Upton is his age. At 25, he gives the Sox time to build an offense around him. All eggs would not be in the 2013 basket.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) How do you know he is pursuing Upton? Info from someone connected to organization.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 12:52 AM) We've spent years amassing the young talent that we have. Why is Justin Upton the guy we sell all the young pieces for? JU is really the missing piece on this team? I bet I could come up with 15-20 outfielders I'd rather have than Upton- he's no superstar. Now we all understand that he's already done a lot at a young age, and that's the path HoF-type players take, but he's shown zero ability to improve over the years. So Viciedo, De Aza plus a bunch of young guys gets us a guy who was out-slugged by Tank and Rios last year. Great. Tank hits lefties like nobody ever has. I'd bet on Tank improving more than Upton improving next year. First, Viciedo is no Justin Upton. I applaud Hahn's effort to get creative in his pursuit of Upton, but it would have to be considered something of a longshot if he could turn Viciedo and De Aza into a group of more attractive prospects. We'll see. As for Upton, I think he's the best player on the market and well worth emptying anything we have on the farm (aside from Hawkins) to get. Think about it, when Hawkins is scheduled to be in the big leagues Upton will just be hitting his prime years. 35-40 HR's a year in his prime at the Cell.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) What kinda s*** is this? Justin Upton is barely 25 and done things none our current outfielders or garbage minor league outfielders have done and can never dream of doing. Like Cali said, you can get Justin Upton without giving up Sale, you do that s***. This is exactly right.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Who plays CF then? Rios or they'll figure it out later. Upton is too good a player to pass on because they may not have a perfect short-term solution in center and Hahn knows that.
