  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) They also have a single majority owner who is a billionaire. That is a great advantage as opposed to the ownership group which the Sox have. Maybe that is this franchise's "problem" then. Chris Sale is the only reason to want to watch the White Sox. Mediocrity doesn't cut it
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 07:43 AM) Marlins? No, the Angels. Yet they are a thriving franchise. Point being the attendance issue is blown way out of proportion.
  3. Guess who had the second lowest local tv ratings in MLB this year.
  4. Viciedo should have been sitting August 1 at the latest v right-handers. If Dan Johnson couldn't play left, Dunn could have. Can't believe they didn't try anything different to get the extra bat in the lineup they desperately needed.
  5. QUOTE (59th street @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Disagree, but he most certainly should have been platooning with Konerko versus all right handed pitchers since the September 1 call ups. Konerko had a .732 OPS in Sept. viciedo had a .730.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) How long ago was he a starter? Could he be another guy that runs out of gas after throwing so many innings? I think he's a guy who could throw 200 innings in his sleep. Not sure if there would be better options for $10M.
  7. Johnson had a very good year at Charlotte. He should've been platooning with Viciedo no later than Aug. 1st.
  8. KW open to idea of bringing Myers back next year as a starter, Might not be a bad idea. He can serve as a cheap innings eater to protect Sale, Danks, and Quintana. http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...mp;feedID=10338
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Id trade Rios in a heartbeat. Wouldn't move Danks or Dunn. You can't move Danks though I don't get why you wouldn't if given the choice.
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Horrific contracts, no. Danks contract is beyond horrific. Too many are taking for granted that he will be ok.
  11. The $100M the Sox get only covers national TV and Comcast I believe. I think you have to throw another $15M or so for the WGN games. The money from local tv deals is really hard to find.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) What have we made previous years? Is $100M good or bad? Roughly, I believe it has been in the $75M range from local and national TV since moving to Comcast from Fox Sports Net.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) I don't understand the tweener mentality -- it seems like most of you want to see the Sox go into 2013 with a marginally worse team. If you think it's a lost cause, fine, but then why not blow it up? I say shore it up or tear it down. +1
  14. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) And they went the way of spending it up in 2011, and won't take that risk again for awhile. They'll stay around $100mm, because they can afford it, and they'll hope they can get some career years and some great acquisitions to once again make a run. I don't know if you are advocated this approach or if you are saying this is what they will do. Either way, building a middle-of-the-pack team inspires nobody.
  15. Fox and TBS renewed their TV deals with MLB. About $50M per team per season when you add the ESPN deal. Counting their local tv deals, the Sox will be banking about $100M a year from TV starting in 2014. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-02/m...-tv-rights.html
  16. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) Yep He should've just said "Nobody in the media cares about the Sox." He still doing sports? I haven't watched local news since the internet came into fashion.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:40 PM) So other than keeping Sale, Danks and Quintana (who I think you've said isn't that good anyway), what would you do? You say shed payroll... what payroll, and how? And for what? Outside of Danks, the only expensive guys with guaranteed contracts for next year are PK, Dunn, and Rios. Maybe Thornton and Crain fit in there. Do you just give them away? What do you think you can get for them? In my opinion, none of Konerko, Dunn, Rios, or Ramirez are going to be solid contributors to the next Sox postseason team. Therefore let someone else pay the remainder of their contracts. With some of the savings sign an innings-eater to a short-term small money deal (Blanton, Guthrie) to protect Sale, Danks, and Quintana while at the same time setting yourself up payroll wise for 2014+ I'm not sure how good Quintana will be, but he's worth developing. It wouldn't surprise me eventually if he's a #3 starter, I just do not think he will reach that in 2013.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) NO way. NO WAY. YOU don't think they should bring back the same team? I'm SHOCKED!!!! We didn't get that from your last 100 posts or anything. You'll get that from my next 100 messages too.
  19. A lot of these plans bring back virtually the same team. I don't think that's a good idea.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Perhaps we should stop relying on a 3-4-5 of people 34+ with injury histories and start developing dynamic young position players. Pretty much says it all.
  21. The problem with the Sox needs is that they are expensive ones, starting pitching and OBP. That's why this is going to take a while.
  22. Shed as much payroll as possible, protect the arms of Sale, Danks, and Quintana.
  23. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) Still waiting... I didn't reply because I thought your question was silly.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) I specifically noted that Rios is likely to regress. Konerko and Dunn were hurt, and Dunn still put up his usual numbers. So I assume you agree with the other points I made? I don't agree with most of the rest of the post. Danks is a big liability until proven otherwise and Quintana maybe a #3-4 starter, the rotation is a mess. The teams talent base under 30 leaves a lot to be desired.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) So if Detroit wins the WS, do you suggest they give the trophy back because they had only the 7th best record in the AL? Why even bother with this stuff if it makes you so miserable? Why do you pass judgement on posters?
