Put this team out of its misery. I feel exactly the same way today as I did after the last home game last year. That is, aside from Chris Sale, I don't care who returns for 2013.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Getting Danks back should help. I'm putting Danks at the top of their liabilities list going into next year. Shoulder surgery with 4 years still left on his deal. Major problem.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) You keep talking about a rebuild and I firmly disagree that this team needs to be rebuilt. Had they had a healthy PK for the last 2 months of the season this is probably a 90+ win team...90+ win teams dont rebuild. The Sox offensive core will be a year older, that's not a good thing. If Konerko comes back, they still have to replace Pierzynski and Youkillis, not to mention Peavy on the pitching side just to get back to an 80ish win team.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) Marty, you seem like a guy who understands internet forums pretty well. There's this thing about "credibility" that members of an Internet forum generate. Perhaps this point is lost on you. See, when certain people post on this forum, I read their content with great interest. What do you think your "credibility" on this forum is? From my point of view you have absolutely none, based on everything I have ever seen you post here. You, sir, are a vulture. The worst kind. You have waited all season to swoop in with the worst kind of hearsay possible. Your first thread, 8th in AL, slams the general manager baselessly, and when called out on your stupid s***, you feign ignorance and throw your hands in the air. Do you even realize what kind of jackass hypocrite that particular thread made you look like to 90% of Soxtalk? Probably not - or we wouldn't have gotten your Legacy thread. Your masterwork, if you will. See, here is the kind of thread I will heartily enjoy bumping for approximately the next 5 years. It completely sums up everything you need to know about Marty. It's filled with ridiculous nonsense only a gullible child could ever believe, and is so outrageously self servingly bitter. During a week when many Sox fans have had their hearts broken by this team, you just can't wait to pile on. You just cant help yourself. I think that speaks volumes of your intentions here. Congratulations on being a complete dick. I've read your posts. I don't respect your opinion either. I'm not going to call you names.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) Marty, I may not always agree with you but I respect that you have a right to post things that you hear and what you think. It makes for some fun stuff. Keep it up Thanks for going out on a limb for me elrockin.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) You have already states you are not qualified to make this sort of comment. To hold me to the same standard as those who get paid to do so, as you did, is stupid.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 11:35 AM) Where has Ventura thinking about quitting been mentioned Marty's guy Not what he said, not what I wrote.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:58 AM) The scenario is not that crazy. Maybe Ozzie brings Buerhle back with him? If it happens it wouldn't be the worse thing that the Sox could do. But, in baseball things change pretty quick To me the crazy thing about the conversation wasn't Guillen being brought back at some point, it was the idea that the rebuild will take only a year or two. I laughed and told him minimum three years to rebuild this roster mess.
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) Oh, we're simply not worthy. How fortunate we are that you occasionally climb down from your ivory tower and spread your words of wisdom to the masses at Soxtalk. I guess I'm not allowed to defend myself. I was responding to a post that says I have no inside information, that few of my posts "make sense."

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) torborg did a solid job, especially in 1990. BUT, he bailed at the first chance of a bigger payday(mets). and that really messed up his career more than anything. Schueler was never a fan of Torborg (rightly or wrongly). Torborg went to him with the offer from the Mets and his reply was "you should take that."

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) If reinsdorf brings guillen back he's the biggest dufus ever, I wouldn't spend a dime on the team if that happens, he quit he turned his back on the team. That's enough right there to everybody turn there back on him. Ozzie's act got old real quick... Guillen and Williams had to be broken up. No way this mess of a roster gets rebuilt in less than three years anyway, Guillen has plenty of time to either a.) get another managerial job or b.) rebuild his reputation.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) I dont see much humility in this current death spiral. Looks like the same guy that was blaming everyone else while simultaneously saying "its my fault". I think success just goes to his head, any degree of success and the animal comes out. He's got an enormous ego which has a lot to do with his failings, however it also contributed to him being a very good manager in 04-5. It's a fine line with him to say the least.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) More accurately, he believes his own story too much now, and burns everyone else out on him. No doubt a dose of humility would do him good. Ultimately, maybe that's what the Marlins experience ends up being.
-
QUOTE (MAX @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) My guy likes a good joke. Guillen was a good manager before he won a World Series. He's pretty clearly burned out now.
-
Don't worry about Ozzie coming back anytime soon. As I told my guy, he's crazy if he thinks this will be rebuilt in a year or two.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) Look at the source. It doesn't make sense and very few of Marty's post ever make sense. He has no inside info. Believe what you want to believe. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. You guys that never go to the park crack me up. As I've said earlier, I've spent an obscene amount of money on the Sox over the years. That's ok, I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford it. Anyway, when you are at the park as often as I have been, you get to know people.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) but..but..it's Marty's guy He's right sometimes, he's wrong sometimes. He's in a position to know the relationship between Hahn and Guillen when Guillen was here.
-
I think Guillen, under very specific circumstances, could be a good manager again. Those circumstances are the ones that my guy said, he's burned out, needs to get away from MLB for a year or two, second he needs a team that's ready to win. When he doesn't have that he loses interest.
-
NP Fathom. I can really see Ventura being a Point A to B manager and moving on to Budd0y Bell's role afterward.
-
Take this FWIW, sometimes my guy on 35th street is right, sometimes he isn't. - Don't expect KW to stay long as President, there just isn't enough for him to do. Basically it's a "job well done" spot for him until a desirable GM job opens (Dodgers?) my guy is a pro KW guy by the way. - When I asked if Ventura likes being a manager he said that he likes the teaching aspect of the job. - Hahn thinks "very highly" of Guillen. When Hahn thinks they have a team ready to win Guillen would be at the top of his list for managers. They think Guillen is burnt out and would benfit from a year away from the game. My guy laid out a scenario where in a year or two Ventura replaces Buddy Bell as director of minor leagues and Guillen returns as manager. Guillen (obviously) won't return while KW is still with the organization. While my guy did not say Hahn is anti-Ventura, he did say he was tight with Guillen.. All this kinda surprised me because wasn't there a dust up between Hahn and Guillen on twitter?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) Offense + Defense = Production, because when the whole idea is to win a ballgame, saving/preventing a run is just as good as scoring a run. In LF you're generally talking about a player with a major deficiency, either in terms of arm strength, power, OBP, range etc. plus a couple key strengths, like you'll have a Viciedo type (arm+power, low OBP, not so rangey) or a Pierre type (speed, range, no arm, also low OBP) etc. When you say LFers have to produce right away, produce like what? Who are you comparing to? The best players are almost always in CF and RF. Viciedo's arm and power gives him attributes a lot of other LF types aren't going to have, and what LFers out there is he supposed to most closely resemble? Especially in his first full season? Also I'm not sure what the theme of your posts is other than basic negativity and hatred of KW. You obviously want to contend (you want to upgrade over Viciedo) but at the same time you hate your aggressive GM who does nothing but try to contend. What are you looking for? You want good, young, productive players then it means you have to acquire them before they become stars, play them, live with their mistakes, live with the growing pains, and if it works out then you can enjoy it when they turn out. If OTOH you just want productive vets then you can have a run for a couple of years if things go right, but if they don't, and teams aren't willing to take on all your massive payroll mistakes, then you get a nice several seasons of completely miserable baseball before you can acquire another core to build around. And as much as it sucks to watch a bunch of half-hearts like this team try to back into the postseason, it sucks a whole lot more when you're out of it in June. First, Kenny Williams is a very good man, I like him a lot. This team's window to win is this season, it's not the time to develop of all things a LF'er at the cost of postseason baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) Its true. You come on here to say Kenny needs to be fired. Someone asks what else he should have done, and you answer with you aren't qualified to answer that. Yet here you are saying what should happen to him for something you, self-admittedly, don't understand. Seriously, this thread sucks. Your post is dead wrong. Why are you twisting what was written in this thread?

Crain came up big. Hopefully he'll be effective Sunday.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) I don't give a flying f*** what his overall numbers are. Fact is, he is absolute horses*** in high leverage situations, and not very good in medium leverage situations either. Look up his splits. Low lev - .187 opp avg, 1.42 ERA, 0.83 WHIP Med lev - .296 opp avg, 2.95 ERA, 1.50 WHIP Highlev - .307 opp avg, 6.88 ERA, 1.65 WHIP He has NO BALLS. I can't believe this is even in question.
