QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Find me a cheaper player who is available, will put up the same numbers, and with a similar ceiling. Viciedo is near the bottom of rational fans worries. Was the Cuban Missle Crisis super dramatic for you or something? If the Sox don't make the playoffs the offensive downgrade from Quentin to Viciedo will be at the top of the reasons why list.

Kenny questions team strategy in Detroit this past weekend.
Marty34 replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bunting on guys with Scherzer and Verlander's stuff AND placing it where you want to is damn near impossible. I wish someone on the coaching staff would comment on difficulty of winning with the (another) hores**t bullpen put together by KW. -

Point of KW telling the media this? -
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Trout is having the best rookie season in history. He's like eating good pizza while boning a supermodel. I expected 270/20/70/300 from Viciedo with awful defense. Next year, I'd expect 280/25/85/325 while continuing to play good defense. How long should a big revenue team like the Sox wait for Viciedo to reach his potential? LF'ers are a dime a dozen.

Welcome our new 5th starter for 2012, Hector Santiago

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) The problem is that you could argue the same old Viciedo argument and 95% of the board knows Dayan has to be successful with us as an everyday player in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 for the Sox offense to amount to anything at all. 23 year olds who post "average" OPS numbers with his low OBP at age 23, with his raw power, and his throwing arm...apparently they are a dime a dozen, and you can identify 10-20 similar players in the high minors who could replicate what Dayan has done. Same with Beckham. And since Paulie's only one RBI ahead of Alexei Ramirez, shouldn't we be trading BOTH of them before their value further erodes next year? Are RBI's an important statistic for you? -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 09:34 PM) Couldn't resist the opportunity to bump this thread. However, I was 5 months off in my prediction... Was also WAY off in thinking Sale would stay in the bullpen at that point, although nobody could have been sure in the middle of 2011 what we had exactly in Chris. It is a change from bumping the "Viciedo Not Worth Wait" thread . . . -
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Again....why not both? Speaking for myself I do not want to pay more taxes.

This is choking. Something that has been all to common for the Sox. Two playoff appearances in last 11 years. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Alexei's foolishly trying to hit a home run to the opposite field instead of trying to bunt against Cabrera. They've just made things way too easy for the Tigers this weekend. I hear ya, but in their defense Scherzer and Verlander can't be easy to bunt. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) So you didn't want to get rid of Zach because of some sort of "feeling". The tigers have been putting it to the Sox head to head and you think that the Tigers are not better. And now a guy who is throwing 89-90 that was throwing 94-95 two weeks ago is not showing any physical limitations. I think we might have found Guillens long lost magic 8 ball. It doesn't matter if the Tigers are "better." It may be years before the Sox are in this good of a position to make the playoffs. Play it out. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) His velocity is way down. I'd rather ensure his health for years to come then to force him face the Royals next weekend. And a 10-day rest ensures his health for years to come? -
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) Marty -- There is a budget deficit. There are two ways to fix it...reduce spending or increase income. It makes no sense to only do one of those things when you can actually do both. How about increasing the tax base instead of raising taxes?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) I'm not disagreeing with you, but unless they lose the last 33 games of the season, KW will be back next year, guaranteed. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that he will be back next year if they miss the playoffs.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) That's your argument for firing KW this off-season? It's not going to fly. You might as well rest until the end of 2013...and make another set of arguments. Everyone knew Dayan was a work in progress when we first signed him. The fact that he's been forced to play 3B, 1B, RF and then LF should be enough testament to his defensive development track alone. They just need to let him play. Nobody knows about Danks...and Nathan Jones overall compared to where he was 1-2 years ago in the minors, nobody expected him to make the impact he has. If he went on the waiver wire tomorrow, every team in the majors would claim him. If they miss the playoffs KW should not be GM next year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) Beckham isn't in development mode, it's beyond that. And Morel, to be fair, has been hurt all season long. And Tyler Flowers, the last 6 weeks, has emerged as a legitimate possibility as starting catcher in 2013. And you can't conveniently discount the contributions from numerous rookies in the pen like Reed, Nathan Jones, Santiago, Septimo, Omogrosso, Heath, Veal, Marinez, etc. Santos Rodriguez isn't far away from replacing Thornton and saving more money, in some combination with Veal and Septimo. Santiago has a decent chance to end up as our 5th starter and seems to have survived the "closer experiment" by Cooper and Robin. Reed, last time I checked, has lasted now nearly the entire season as a rookie closer. Not great yet by any stretch of the imagination, but he's pretty much replicated Santos' performance at a lower cost. Finally, if you really expected Viciedo to hit .290 with 30+ homers and 90+ RBI's, your expectations were too high. He's done fine for a rookie, just maybe not as consistent or as superhuman as some expected. He'll end the season with around 23-26 homers and 70-75 RBI's, he definitely hasn't HURT the White Sox as much as Morel or Beckham have offensively. Viciedo is a work in progress that has shown serious flaws, Nate Jones is awful and John Danks is the most problematic of all.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 05:35 PM) how do you think the country makes money? maybe there's a reason you don't think teachers matter.............. someone didn't pay attention in school I'm not following why the national income has to be significantly increased.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) I'm not about to throw my support behind every part of the Democrat platform, but I think the national income needs to be increased significantly. People will likely have to pay for this, and probably not just the super-rich I'm not following.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Quintana's been a huge surprise Right, if it's not a fluke and he can remain a 3-4.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) I very rarely post in this forum, but were the last five pages seriously b****ing and moaning about teachers' salaries and unionization? Do the republicans here think that those issues greatly contribute to the debt? I'm genuinely curious and not trying to come off as a dick. Teachers b****ing about their pay is what I find hard to believe.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) Still, the improvements from Thompson, the draft of Hawkins...the situation is more optimistic than last off-season at least. I disagree. John Danks is potenially a huge problem as is the varying degrees of lack of development of Morel, Beckham, and Viciedo. It has not been a good year for the development side of the organization. Sale has been a huge success, but everything with him depends on that touchy elbow.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) because people like you are constantly trying to PAY THEM LESS! Marty how would you react if dumbasses lobbied to have YOUR pay reduced? How would you respond? Would you argue about how important your job is and how hard you work? If not, then sure, cast those stones all you want. My company has had layoffs and no raises in two years and they have had far better results at what they do than the Chicago Public School system has at what they do.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) how would you have become an attorney without teachers? have you ever been one? do you have any - ANY idea - what it is to be a teacher? I know teachers get their summers off . . . Why do so many teachers feel the need to tell people how difficult their job is? It's a profession where there is very little accountability.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:20 PM) And until last season, the Tigers could never beat the Twins either, only in 2006. Should Dombrowski also be fired? He's had more money to spend than Williams. I don not give one damn about Dombrowski. I don't know what your point is.
