QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) And what did the Tigers do after they swept us last time? They basically fell apart. Are they weak mentally? Two days ago, after the Royals swept them, half the Tigers' fanbase was ready to give up. The season changes on a day by day, and inning by inning basis. 2-0 is far from an insurmountable lead. I do not give one damn about the Detroit Tigers. Kenny Williams' teams have difficulty making the postseason.

QUOTE (Caesar @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) Typical Sox. They don't man up in big games. Been like that for years now. A staple of this GM's teams.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) Guy has amazing power...he barely swung and missed a homer by 15 feet Check Cabrerra's bat (tell your guys to put their loaded ones away first.)

D. Johnson up, Hudson as well, DeAza back Sunday

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Then come up with a trade that will net an upgrade over your oft-mentioned "declining asset" who is not named Beckham, Saladino or Sanchez... Beckham would be, at best, an average MLB SS. Sanchez is at least 4-5 months of seasoning away, and hasn't even played SS on an everyday basis. Many prognosticators would rather have him play 2B, then 3B, then SS, in that order. Saladino, some of the same concerns as Sanchez. He's just not ready to play major league SS, offensively or defensively. I'd rather have a left side of the IF of unnamed at short and Youkillis at third than Ramirez at short and Morel at third next year. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Why would they be trading Ramirez, exactly? Because he's in decline and they have to pay him 3 more years. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) No Morel? That cant be good for him. I bet this means Youk is back next year if brent isnt even up here as a D replacement. Barring something unforeseen (deep postseason run), I think they'd pick up Youk's option only if they could shed some salary elsewhere. Say a Thornton or Ramirez. They're going to have to use whatever available funds they have first to figure out the rotation. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) It is not for you or I to decide if the teacher isn't doing an acceptable job, it's the school district's. The taxpayer is paying their salaries.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Any of you against raising teaching salaries have yet to provide a valid argument to why is shouldn't be. Because their is no accountability in teaching. If a kid underachieves it's their fault or their parents, not the teacher's. If teachers want better salaries they better start producing better educated kids.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Also I can't slack during the entire school day. I can't just go read soxtalk whenever I feel like it because I've got 25 students in my room who need to learn. Not complaining. I'm just saying sure I get june-mid august off but in the end I'm working just as hard as anyone else in any other profession. How many holidays, non-summer vacation days do you get? You may not be able to slack during the day, but how much daily pressure is a teacher under? You're not going to be held accountable by your bosses if a student fails a test.

QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) He was actually saying about how he cant believe the size of the crowds for the first 2 games of this series with Baltimore only 3 games behing NY and with the way they are playing. We are in first place, have been for awhile. The teams plays hard and can't sell out Sox park. They shouldnt even talk about crowd size. Point is, very few teams are going to draw big crowds when they have been as infrequently to the postseason as the Orioles have, Sox too for that matter. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) Then you live in a world where budgets don't matter and invariably you'd STILL be looking to replace Quentin now because he'd be injured. Both Viciedo and Quentin are extremely streaky hitters, and far from consistent. What did Carlos Quentin do at age 23 in the majors? I wish we hadn't signed John Danks for $65 million, I think that's a TAD bit more impactful than Quentin vs. Viciedo. Caufield you are Viciedo's biggest supporter, you have to be disappointed with the numbers he has put up the last 3 months. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) The problem is that Quentin has been 779, 821 and 839 those three years. Missing 63, 31 and 44 games. So the overall stats for the White Sox at that position invariably are going to be lower because there's naturally going to be a dropoff to a Jordan Danks or Wise or Pierre type of player, usually. -0.8, 0.1, 2.3 and 1.7 for WAR 2009-2012. When you factor in his salary and injury history...and Dayan's age, potential and salary, it was really a no-brainer. Not to mention that Dayan is much better defensively and has a plus arm from the outfield, which has really helped us a number of times, when you consider the likes of Pods and Pierre throwing from LF over the last decade. When you factor in that Viciedo is a platoon player and the team is in a pennant race it's a deal I wish they had back. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) That's classic, what next? Move Gordon Beckham or Lillibridge to SS and sell off Ramirez for nothing? Would you still do that TODAY? Why are you in my grill? This is a game thread. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) Maybe we should also trade Konerko, since he has the exact same number of RBI's as the "horrible" SS that we should (constantly and) supposedly trade. And he's been in a much better position to drive in runs all season long than Alexei, so maybe we should trade Paulie instead. What's the point, the Tigers salted away the division after game 10. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) So is drafting Gordon Beckham. If we didn't have Viciedo when Quentin was sitting on the bench in April and May, we wouldn't be in first place now. Danks isn't a full-time player. By the way, do you STILL want to trade Alexei Ramirez? You can't criticize both of them constantly, then not give credit to Ramirez for a huge, clutch two out RBI. AND, the key player in the trade for Liriano was Hernandez, who we also got for Quentin. So Liriano and Viciedo > injury prone Carlos Quentin at a MUCH higher salary I'd rather have Quentin than Viciedo for the rest of this season. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Viciedo's bat speed looks off since he returned from injury. If he can't get it going soon, then you sit him and play ADA in LF. That Quentin trade is looking pretty bad. -
QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Here's how to fix education. Pay teachers what they're worth and the best people will become teachers. Anyone with any kind of talent is going into other professions because they wont make as much if they're a teacher. Make teaching a respectable profession and pay them like it and you will have good teachers. The teacher isn't as important in a student's educational development as their parents are. Teachers are paid what they are worth.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) MLB apparently doesn't realize how much they are killing baseball. The lifting of local blackouts for Monday/Wednesday games and the relaxing of restrictions on how frequently teams can be on Sunday night both add up to even more Yankees games on ESPN. Aside from the problem of making the fans of the other 29 teams hating the Yankees even more, there is the larger problem in that FOX has the World Series, and in the 75% of years that the Yankees don't make the World Series, their ratings are terrible because ESPN has been showing nothing but Yankees all season, and then the networks all use the low World Series ratings as evidence that nobody cares about the other 29 teams and show the Yankees even more. I disagree with the premise that World Series ratings are low because the Yankees are on ESPN all the time. I think WS ratings are low because by the time it is on people have had their fill of baseball for the year. Postseason is too long, too many teams.

8y/$5.6B http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ga.../1#.UD1Mt6Ph-Sp Kind of surprised they went back to ESPN. They've seemed to have a love/hate relationship, but they probably weren't ready to commit fully to NBC sports network or whatever it is called

I'd be surprised if Rios and Dunn didn't pass through waivers too. Maybe even Ramirez.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) Who would you guess the Sox have put on waivers at this point? I wonder how many have been and pulled back or cleared John Danks.
