QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) And if they do make the post-season, with or without Greinke, then he gets at least 2013 and 2014, agreed? Nobody expected the White Sox to be tied for first on July 26th, apparently, except for you. I said they should contend before the season started.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) So you're okay with KW, no matter what the record and attendance are next year...if he goes for it with Greinke, they don't make the playoffs and Zach ends up with the Braves, Angels, Dodgers, etc.?? If they don't make the postseason with or without Greinke, I think KW's time should be up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) The type of trades you're talking about would make it impossible to be much more than a .500 team next year. Even if this is true, I'm fine with it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) But The Cell is "dark" and "different." Agree with him that it's different. I attribute that to the odd lot that buys tickets and I say this knowing that those are my people.
-
Saw this on MLB tonight. 23 of the 49 runs Greinke has allowed this year have come in 5 innings. Also GB% OF 53.7% to go along with 8 k/9, perfect for the cell.

Sox fans must be still spoiled with the 2005 World Series if they are willing to pass on this golden opportunity because they don't want to sell the farm. Greinke is a difference maker at the top of the rotation. Does it guarantee a World Series, no, but neither does hanging on to Viciedo, Reed, or Quintana. All this talk about this package is too much, or that package is too much because it involves one or two of those three is in my opinion nonsense.

Cheap LF'ers and closers are a dime a dozen for high revenue teams. Cheap averageish starting pitching is not.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) poor marty lol I take as much joy in Viciedo's success as anyone. I want the White Sox to win.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) HELLO MARTY. SHOULD HAVE PH JUAN PIERRE THERE FOR TANKS. Saved/contributed 3 runs tonight. I couldn't be happier. I just wish you weren't so quiet during one of his many failures.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Except Viciedo has a league average OPS in LF at age 23. 729 .656 ops in 231 AB's v. righties going into tonight's game.

Here's why a rental is more attractive. As soon as they take on a pitcher for next year, Peavy knows he's not coming back. With the way his pitch counts have been built up that would be pretty crappy on the Sox part and wouldn't go over well with Peavy or in the clubhouse.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) Juan Pierre? Oh hell no.

Can't remember the last time Floyd hit 94 MPH as much as he has tonight. Encouraging.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) #WhiteSox inquired on Ichiro. Were led to believe he was unavailable. #Mariners #Yankees #MLB -- Dan Hayes Ok.. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) Which probably means Viciedo would have been traded for a pitcher If they were willing to replace Viciedo with Ichiro, it pretty much tells me they're going to deal Viciedo for a SP.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) This is a team that won 95 games last year, and pretty much replaced Victor Martinez with Prince Fielder. Now they just added two players that address their biggest weaknesses. They are a team to be respected. Are they beatable? Sure, if they beat themselves. This is the team with the most talent in the AL Central. They should be on a pedestal. They're not the '27 Yankees. I'd bet against them winning 90 games this year. -
Scrub 2012. Should be first option in rebuild of 2013.
-
If they are serious get the best SP available. I have a sneaking suspicion that Danks will be shutdown for the season after the trade deadline. If they don't have a suitable replacement for him in place, I don't think they go to the postseason.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) It would be very simple to give something back with your parking stub. Like you could use use it for a free Coke and hot dog and/or a discounted beer and hot dog. Something to make you feel you're getting something back of value, like a cover charge with free drink/s attached. Then you don't feel like you're getting ripped off as much psychologically. And you feel better about supporting your team. Sure $25 is expensive to park, but you can talegate in the lot. A few beers (a designated driver) and it's worth it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) He will get at least next season, whether you like it or not. This season, up until this point, still has to be considered evidence of progress. If they don't make the playoffs I don't see KW being brought back. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) You know White Flag '97 was bulls***, right? The 97 Sox weren't going to win that division. And if the Sox are 52-48 a week from now, I'll have no confidence in this team to get to the postseason. Unfortunately, that second wild card will fool everyone into think they're in it. Obviously, Kenny isn't going to sell. I would want him to, but he won't. Right now, I'm very worried about what Peavy and Sale can do the rest of the season. They've been great, but we're seeing velocity go down for Sale, and location problems for Peavy. And the offense has been nothing short of terrible. Ventura doesn't make any adjustments. So we'll lose because that's what they deserve. I don't want KW as part of a rebuilding. If they don't make the postseason KW needs to go. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) So can Beckham and Viciedo, according to you. If it was so easy, why did it take KW half a decade to find a CF/leadoff hitter? None of those guys are cf/leadoff hitters. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) AKA...don't trade away Viciedo, Reed, Jones, etc. Why? Those guys can very easily be replaced. Jones? Are you kidding. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) Let's shut down Sale, and trade Youkilis, Crain, Thornton, Peavy, Floyd, and Myers. (This is my post a week from now after going 2-4) That would set this franchise back 5 years. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Memo to Kenny: DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID It's not like we have a good young core with reinforcements on the way from the minors. I don't think he can "give the farm away."
