If GB gets on and Coke comes in to face De Aza, please PH Viciedo. I know it won't happen. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) That's a great deal for the Padres, IMO. Absolutely, I'd take him back on the Sox right now at that price. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Since this thread is active, figured I'd get the most responses here: if you could amnesty one contract with the Sox right now, who would it be? Jh. Danks. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) Question for you....do you think even with a solid starting pitcher acquisition that this team can contend with the Tigers the rest of the year? I don't know, but it's their best chance over the next 2-3 years. -

I think the clock started ticking on KW after the Boesch homer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) Unless the offense magically reappears, adding one starting pitcher isn't going to lead the way to the promise land. Also, there is absolutely no way for you to predict how the team will be next season. You have a better chance of the offense reappearing than this starting staff being good enough to make the playoffs. As far as the team goes next year, I don't think it's unreasonable to think they will be worse off than a 1/2 game out on this date next year. -

Trade for a SP. They have nothing to lose, this team isn't going to be very good next year if they don't at least make it to the ALCS this year. -
Expressing non-baseball opinions on B. Myers

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) It really is an interesting issue from a psychological standpoint, having had players like Belle, Canseco and Manny Ramirez on the team in the past, not to mention not so famous ones like D'Angelo Jimenez or Wil Cordero. I don't see it as interesting at all and is misplaced since it has nothing to do with Baseball. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 06:35 AM) I'm not trying to find a role model. I'd imagine a good percentage of these guys are guys if you knew them, you'd want nothing to do with them, but there is a line. Not personally knowing them and cheering for them is easy but to a certan point. Wifebeating is over the line. There is NO reason to beat your wife. I don't care what she says or does. A 6'4"240 pound man dragging a 5'4" 120 pound woman by the hair and hitting her is NEVER justified. She admitted he hit her. She said she wasn't going to let him do this to here anymore suggesting it had happened before. If he was willing to do that in public for all to see, its hard to imagine what it must have been like in private. He's a certified POS. I hope the White Sox win, and I hope he has nothing to do with it. If they do lose, I hope its all his fault. I don't see how wanting Myers to do his job well correlates to being pro wife beating.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 07:13 PM) Let's sell the farm for a starting pitcher rental! We need position players who can hit. Who are the players you want to replace?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 01:40 PM) I know Santos went on to get hurt with Toronto...and it is pretty impossible to know if the same thing would have happened here, but I liked his stuff a lot better than Reed's. Yep. What struck me about the homer to Ross was the location was good. Ross just beat the ball to the spot, something you just don't see against power closers.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) Sox need to trade for hitting, not pitching. A second baseman that can hit would be a welcome addition. Also, a good hitting outfielder that would allow Viciedo to DH at times, especially against LHP. If they could get someone to take Dunn in a trade, all the better but I doubt anyone would want him. The bottom third of the order just doesn't get on base enough against right-handers. I still think a starting pitcher is most important though.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) And DeAza, and Dunn, and Konerko, and Beckham... Realistically, the whole line-up has been pretty bad since the TUES Red Sox game. I would trade Raburn for Beckham right now and not bat an eyelash because I have more confidence of Raburn hitting with another team than Beckham ever getting it together in Chicago. You fix what you can and upgrading offensively in left and/or second should not be impossible.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) At least he has an RBI in this game. Gordon Beckham's MUCH worse. Replace both of them then.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) That's a stretch...he'll probably be more like Juan Pierre or Pods. Lofton was an exciting, dynamic game changing player, both offensively and defensively. By most accounts, Walker has gap power that Pods and Pierre don't have.
-
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Maybe you could suggest somebody. (Sarcasm alert) A lot to choose from as Viciedo hasn't been very good against righties.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Marty, what I take from your comments is that we have a lot of guys kind of slumping. I don't see Dunn doing much more than Konerko is doing. Listen to anyone about Dunn this year and it's either a homer, a walk OR A K and I see a lot of that from him. I am bit worried there is more wrong with PK than is let on concerning his wrist. But, Paulie is a pro all the way. I think he will rebound soon. I hope the whole line up does. It ain't fun to lose. They have to find ways to win games this next week so that they can assess what they need most at the deadline. The pitching isn't good enough to carry this lineup.
-
Walker is looking more and more promising. I think he's the guy I'd least like to lose in a deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't he profiles as a Kenny Lofton-type leadoff hitter?
-
I can wait out Konerko, but the lineup needs to be adjusted. Konerko should be moved down in the lineup to 6th. Rios/Youkilis 3/5, Dunn 4, Viciedo needs a platoon partner ASAP.
-
QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) really...? Sale, Viciedo, De Aza In that order. If they traded Youkilis I don't think they make the postseason. If they don't make the postseason, it doesn't matter who they keep after Sale for the 2013 season. Lengthy rebuilding ahead.
-
I disagree with Nate Jones being on the list because he is not very good.
-
Youkilis.

Crain and Floyd expected back MON, Barnum ok

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) You do know it doesn't have to be an extreme thing, right? He can feel that Jones is a better option than Marinez, without having to be "on that Nate Jones bandwagon". I should have used a smiley, but I wasn't trolling anyone when I said I am surprised Jones is still on the roster. He's been really bad. -
