QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Hunter was already in the game as a defensive replacement in RF. Hunter entered the game in the bottom of the 10th.
-
QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Then you bring in Reed to face Hunter. Id rather have Hunter facing Reed than Thornton facing Howie With the way Reed is throwing I'm not sure I agree.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) I wouldn't trade Viciedo for Pence. No way. But if that BS rumor about Jordan Danks and Jones for Pence were true, I'd take it and play him a lot in LF over Viciedo down the stretch and also use him to give the other outfielders a rest now and then. One of Beckham or Viciedo can't be a full-time player over the next 2 months.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) Yeah, Ventura clearly is lacking in confidence in Reed right now. That's fine, I'm not upset with using Crain, Myers and Thornton. It was pitching to Kendrick with the open base that made zero sense. Doesn't Hunter PH for Wells then? Kendrick or Hunter, I think 'd rather face Kendrick.

I'd say its the Nats

Tonight's game...another potential sellout?
Marty34 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good crowd, but too many tix left to be bought on walk up for a sell out. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) And we keep getting actual solid production out of the guys who are called up, which iss the real important thing anyway. Outside of Quintana, I think this is overstated.
-
Let him go based on workload.

Tough on some posters here, but really who knew?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) There's one player on the Sox that I think struggles with the mental aspect of the game, and it's not Gavin. It's the player who everyone predicted would fail in his new spot in the batting order, and he has. Thornton is worse.

Stone said AJ should play tomorrow.
-
Good throw doesn't get Cruz. Floyd needed to look him back to third, but that would have made the play at first extremely close.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) Yes, jones throws hard. Hes also been abysmal for the last two months and has no feel for an offspeed pitch. He should probably be in aaa throwing a lot of sliders. Do you have a vendetta against Nate Jones or do you just want a better reliever?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) Yea, it is. You want a perfect bullpen and expect guys to get people all every situation. The reality is that doesn't happen. The reality is, Jones has been an above average reliever, yet you continously whine and complain about him and countless others. For god sakes your busy yacking how Pierre would be more beneficial to the Sox then Viciedo, which is just insane. I realize you are rooting for the Sox and are a big fan, but more often then not, you seem to have vendettas against certain players no matter what there performance indicates. You also seem to be one of the many individuals who doesn't have an appreciationi (and there are plenty of people that fit this bill) for something called development. Thank the lord that Ventura gets it cause this team wouldn't be where it was without its young players (and the passion that they bring and I think the mix of youth and veterans is what has given the Sox a good clubhouse and this never quit attitude that was non-existent during most of Guillen's years). We disagree about Nate Jones.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) How is he useless. Outside of a couple horrific outings, he's been well above average. And I got news for you, relievers can be good with a differing ERA irregardless. The guy is valuable and a lot of teams would love having him. I don't even know what to think, if it were up to you this team would have a lot less young talent and a lot more crappy veterans. Who are the crappy veterans I've been advocating? I don't want Nate Jones pitching in a meaningful situation for the Sox in a pennant race. Is that really that outrageous?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) 12 of those runners were in the 1 1/3 innings in 3 appearances I was mentioning, so useless? No. Marty wrong again? Yes. So take out his worst 3 appearance and he's still below average over since June 1 .
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:29 PM) Jones is not useless. Dude is solid and will be very good. Guys are going to give up runs, it happens. And he's bound to struggle as he gets there, thats why acquiring Myers was so important. He's been there and done it and when you add in Crain (who is getting better and more into baseball shape again) and you are in a much better place. He's 26 years old, he may be very good. At the moment he's useless to a team in a pennant race. There are things to like about Liriano, but durability is not one of them. His starts are going to tax the pen and another RH reliever is necessary. I'll be stunned if they don't get one before the deadline.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) Throw away Jones' worst 3 outings covering 1 1/3 innings and his ERA is 1.56 his other 40 1/3 with a K an inning. Totally useless. 32 base runners allowed in 16 innings covering last 2 months. Useless.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) And the only player I've said that we should trade during that whole time is Matt Thornton. And I still feel that way. It's no more amusing than your spending 249 posts pushing Juan Pierre on us, and 181 posts pushing a Zack Greinke deal that was never going to fly, then saying in hindsight you were for Liriano, lol. Should I quote all 321 posts in the last 12 months begging them to trade Alexei Ramirez and start Lillibridge at SS? C'mon...you would have destroyed the team single-handedly. After awhile, you still wanted to trade Quintana and Viciedo for Greinke even when it became patently obvious he wasn't signable or particularly interested in pitching for us, but you still advocated it but kept on moving the bar upwards to fire KW. First, low attendance, he should be fired. Then, well, Morel, Beckham, Danks, Flowers and Molina aren't making progress. Goodbye, KW. Ooops!!! Talk about changing the standard in order to fit into your crusade to fire KW. Now, despite so many things going well and 3 great trades, you still want KW to be let go. Then you have absolutely ZERO suggestions as to who actually should be the GM. You do point the finger even when you misrepresent my arguments. You must not be able to help yourself.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) I said all along don't trade Viciedo, don't trade for Greinke, trade for a second/third tier starter who won't cost us Viciedo/Quintana/Reed. The only time all season I've turned on KW is when they were mismanaging the Sale situation for 10 days. All spring the Sox were going to contend, 10 games into the season you said there's no use trying to compete with the Tigers and you've been back and forth on it since. It's provided me with almost as much amusement as your attendance watch.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Marty, what's the point? You would have already traded Alexei Ramirez and Viciedo and you would be in the process of losing Greinke. Too bad Liriano and Greinke don't face each other next Friday, lol. We could have a head-to-head showdown of ur choice versus mine. If Sale goes Wednesday, it's a possibility that Greinke faces Liriano, although they're more likely to make it Sale vs. Greinke and give Chris time to work through the dead arm in side sessions. Why do you constantly point the finger at me? You have a history of saying one thing one day and the exact opposite a few days later.

They need a RH reliever as badly as they needed another starter. Crain is just not a guy who can pitch two days in a row and be effective. It puts a ton of strain on the rest of the righties and as we know Jones is useless.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 10:43 AM) At the time the deal was signed, it was 100% the right move. Danks had never had a major injury, is a young left handed starter, and had thrown 900+ innings in just over 5 seasons. The guy probably would have been a $100+ million pitcher on the open market this year (without the shoulder injury obviously). Coming off a down season where he spent time on the DL and there wasn't much interest in him on the trade market makes the 5-year deal anything but 100% the right move at the time. It was a gamble that blew up pretty big.
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) i would much rather have liriano over sanchez Agreed, but that's not to say Liriano isn't a gamble. H/e's been cuffed around pretty good this year.

I think the Sox get the best RH reliever they can. They're done relying on Nate Jones to get any outs of consequence.
