The Sox are trying to deal De Aza and Viciedo to get a better a better prospect mix to get in the Upton derby.
-
Granderson is the LH'ed hiter who potentially will be on the (trade) market who best fits the Sox budget 1y/$15M. For the Yankees to get in on Hamilton, they'll need to move Granderson's salary. He would come cheap in a trade, but I don't think Granderson's a good fit for the Sox.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
Marty34 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Heyman was just on MLB Network said the Sox are thinking big. Perhaps trading Floyd and signing Annibel Sanchez or Kyle Loshe. Sounds far-fetched to me -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 04:28 PM) I thought KW said after the season that player(s) came to him concerned about the attendance.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) See, now this move would be a net negative. Rookie SS, bad second baseman, bad 3rd baseman vs. Rookie 2nd baseman, and good SS, bad 3rd baseman Ramirez is likely in decline If they have the opportunity to trade him they should.
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 11:15 AM) I personally worry less about the opportunity cost of rushing prospects or changing their positions..when I see contracts out there like what Victorino just got in Boston. This will come off as wildly basic, but I want my organization's ready talent on the field if and when we've made the decision to be 'win now'. I'm at least open to Sanchez being ready, and being a 2b. Keeping flexible (because of what we frankly are right now...a team losing production at catcher and maybe 3b unless other things change) If he's ready bring him up at SS and deal Ramirez.
-
Sanchez's optimal value is as a SS, he should not be moved to another position.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) We would have been a much better team with a legit 3B during the 1st half. Who knows how many games that cost us and if things would have turned out differently. I'm a very optimistic fan and I honestly feel like this team will have a real shot next year with a few tweaks, but if we go into 2013 with another black-hole at 3B then I'll lose most of my hope. We don't need an impact player there, just league average production and Brent Morel has shown no signs of being even close to level of player. There just isn't anything out there at third that's worth the risk/reward.
-
Signing Hanrahan isn't a terrible move given the market for 3B.
-
Chavez likely returns to Yankees.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) If the DBacks would consider something like Alexei/Viciedo/Reed for Upton, I'd go for it and move Sanchez up to ss, but we know that isn't going to be enough. The Sox really need to get a young cornerstone hitter. If they could get Upton for that and a even a little more, I'd do it.
-
The best near-term thing for the Sox to do to have a chance at contending would be to put Viciedo at 3B, Sanchez at SS, free up money by dealing Ramirez and Floyd, and if the market for Hamilton really is depressed make a play for him.

You can look the other way when a World Series hero can't catch the ball, but i can't think of a worse place for AJ to go than New York. With the erosion of his defensive ability, he'll be roasted in the press before they break spring training.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) THE Big Dog? Hardly. Latest study had ND at the 4th largest fanbase. However the #1 haterbase is what made it so interesting. USC had alot of temporary fans last night. When was the study taken? To STILL have the 4th largest fanbase after 20 years of mostly mediocre teams proves they are the Big Dog. -

Yep, the big dog is back at the table. Hopefully for a long stay. -
Surprised that Sale didn't get a single vote.

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) I need more elaboration. Are you talking about neighborhoods that have become completely low-income over time (like the one my mother was raised in) or is this just "When I see a black man, I see my property value dropping" Lower middle-class black neighborhoods. From the long-time residents of these neighborhoods that I have spoken to there's a tremendous amount of disappointment and anger over what section 8 has done to their area.
-
Whatever success there has been has come at a price. Talk to people who lived in these neighborhoods before they were integrated and they rue that day.

QUOTE (champs2005 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) Of course traffic was a top issue in the survey. My point is that in Chicago traffic is a factor for al major sports, big events, etc. Traffic is a given. It doesnt seem to be affecting the attendance at all the other places. And you cant really DO anything about traffic as an owner. It is a cheap excuse. I hate Jerry. Yep. Traffic wouldn't be a problem worth mentioning if they had a team that made the playoffs more than once since 2006.

Marlins trade Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Reyes plus others to Blue Jays

Logan Morrison reportedly being shopped now. Interesting guy for the Sox I think. -
How is Marlins trade different from what the cubs are doing?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) I really hope this is a lesson for other cities not to publicly fund these stadiums To keep a 90+ loss veteran team together? The problem from a baseball perspective isn't this trade, it was the idea that they could compete by signing the free agents they did last offseason. You don't make the decision to build a stadium based on short-term performance. -

Hunter to Tigers, 2 years per Rosenthal. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) I think you missed the point. They will invest their money - that won't change. Just will invest differently. I said nothing about creating jobs, nor did I even hint at it. We are talking about MARKET investing here. Point is, the super wealthy are going to sit on their money until the government gives them incentive (tax cuts or at least no tax increases) to invest in this shaky market, economy, whatever you want to call it.

So the Jays go from a payroll of about $75M to $120M. I'm thinking the Sox can add at least $20M.
