QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Because you guys keep quoting him and it ruins the ignore feature!! Seriously, hows the Upton trade coming these days? If it happens, we'll get confirmation from you 15 minutes after the fact I'm sure.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) General insults of an entire group just because they don't agree with you, aren't any better than individual insults in my book. When was the last time I insulted anyone?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) So you finally admitting you were trolling at least. No. Another case of Soxtalk Group Think. Dissenting opinions aren't welcomed.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) At this point no one is wrong so let's assume it's a 50/50 split OK ;) But, the reports on his progress have been good. I tend to believe he will come back and pitch very well. Who would have thought Jake P was going to rebound like he did? I don't think the surgery Danks had was as bad as Jake's. This is all true, but I'll believe Danks recovery when I see it (velocity mostly) and not before.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) If we wanna talk about history, I don't ever remember ptatc steering us wrong. He always has sound justification for what he has to say. So we can expect 190 innings from Danks next year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) So what is all of this "history" you are basing calling all of Soxtalk idiots for listening to an actual trainer for. You do have some actual evidence before call out people, right? I have no evidence only opinion. I do question conventional wisdom here on Soxtalk.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) So explain to me the surgery, the limitations, the repair work, and what exactly about it will lead to those limitations. I'm not a certified trainer.
-
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) Hey didn't you hear the news? Apparently John Danks has regained his lost velocity, learned how to pitch inside, stopped walking guys and finally learned a third pitch. All thanks to an exploratory surgery that apparently "experts" have guaranteed was a success. No chance at all it didn't work, thank heavens! Thou shall only discuss John Danks with blind optimism on Soxtalk. This sums it ALL up perfectly.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Yes, you know more than professionally employed certified MLB trainers. Danks will throw less than 190 innings next year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Instead you are arguing with a guy who is a professional licensed and experienced major league baseball trainer over how this particular surgery projects for John Danks recovery. If Soxtalk thinks he's going to be fine . . .
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 02:04 PM) Yeah, we were too conservative -- he got promoted More like "promoted".
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) Arguing with Marty basically is the White Sox offseason thus far. What fun. Gimme more please I've found conventional wisdom here on Soxtalk to be wrong quite often. Remember, KW was going to be GM this year and beyond without question according to conventional wisdom on here.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) I will go with the actual licensed trainer on this one. I'll go with history.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) Maybe so. But, I never fully understood just what the surgery was all about. Was it really really bad or to correct an issue that certainly bugged Danks but could have been pitched through? Anyway we all know that shoulder/arm surgeries for pitchers are serious business and you just don't know how they will respond. Where is Mark Buerhle when you need him? Oh yeah Toronto! I don't think he could have pitched through it. There were questions about Danks not taking the next step in his development before the surgery. I have a hard time believing the surgery will vault him to the next level.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 11:39 AM) I'm glad everyone here is qualified to speculate on how a pitcher might recover from this surgery History is not on his side.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 16, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) Shocking Yes, shoulder surgery for a pitcher is no big deal.
-
I doubt very much that Danks comes back as good as he was before the surgery.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Yeah, the Sox should use history to show them that 23 year olds that put up a 96 suck. We had to put up with Maggs all those years when his first full season 94 should have clued the Sox in he was no good, and Ventura's 83 his first full season was obviously a sign of things to come. Explain Beckham's 23 OPS+ of 86.

AJ can't catch the ball anymore. He's so bad at it, it's like there's something wrong with him. That said, I can't see him getting less than what Youkillis signed for.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) No. The Sox sent out playoff ticket invoices in 2011 and 2012, since they were in theoretical contention both times. Still had to pay for playoff tickets to keep your spot, both years. Some of it may be what others said earlier, the less die-hard crowd may have been bigger the year before. But I doubt it was THAT much so. 90%+ vs 50%+ is a huge difference. And that doesn't include all the new plans people are buying. I'm starting to think the season ticket base may actually grow a fair amount for 2013. I think the lowering of ticket prices is working. The reason the STH renewal rate is higher this year is because the Sox were at least 10 games better in terms of playoff position than they were in 2011 when they sent out the renewal notices. I remain skeptical of sales of season ticket packages. There should be improvement when single game tickets go on sale.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin Rick Hahn didn't seem inclined to trade from starting pitching depth. Will have some interesting offers, I imagine, coming up. What SP depth? -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) I'm very curious as to what names have been floated regarding any trade talks involving Vicideo and/or De Aza. Gammons said a Rangers official told the Astros on Wednesday that they had Upton. So something happened to derail it, at least momentarily. Was it losing out on Greinke or something else?
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) You might be setting yourself about by talking about your "source" all the time. I don't see other posters doing that. You have a different definition of "all the time". Doesn't surprise me.
-
QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) Marty, just post it. No.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) You cannot be serious... Even if that was the case and Hahn wants to hire somebody else, why hire Ozzie Guillen when there are many managers out there who favor numbers far more than Guillen? You can't tell me that Ventura managed anywhere close to "sabrmetrically" last year.
