  1. Balta, I agree with you EXCEPT, the starting pitching has been pretty good this year, minus the Count. Danks has improved and Buehrle, Garland and Vazquez have all been plus to plus-plus. Also, the hitting took a very strange free fall in the first half. Losing Pods and Crede didn't hurt that. I know this would never happen, but I wonder what would have happened/where the Sox would be if there weren't the injuries. I will make no excuses for the bullpen. They've been bad except for April (with the exception of Jenks and Thornton recently).
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:34 PM) The whole "on Wacker, just north of Randolph" thing kind of threw me off since it's south of Randolph. So you're talking about 123 N. Wacker then. Nope...this one. 150 N. Wacker They make it look much better in the picture. But when you drive by it...eeeeeeeee-yuck!
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) I've heard rumors (via ESPN) that Santana was pissed about this and wants out of MIN. Any truth to this? Yeah, he got really screwed on the Garcia, Contreras, Vazquez, Thome, and Danks trades. He is pissed...and I don't think Minny was going to sign him anyway. Although I would be surprised if they didn't hold on to him just for the picks in 2009. And Jimbo...did you just see that the Pirates picked up Matt Morris? MATT MORRIS!!! I don't know, but Rajai Davis is supposed to be a decent prospect, BUT the Pirates took ALL of Morris' salary. Now THAT is a bad deal. I mean, why? I think Littlefied has Kenny trumped BY A LOT!!!
  4. If you put him in the bullpen, he becomes MORE of an injury risk. Because he takes so long to warm up and the bullpen can't handle someone like that. Bullpen duty would make him worse, if you ask me (which you didn't). Put him on the DL for exhaustion or something like that. And let him work out his issues on the side.
  5. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) And it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Sox were to place Jose on waivers, just to see if anybody bites. In fact, they'd better. I forget the rules, but I believe there is a window afterwards to work out a trade if he passes through. Just about every player on every team gets put through some sort of waivers. Revocable or Irrevocable...and I'm not sure either...I think you are right about the window.
  6. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Rex spent this off season working on his most pressing issue .... footwork. ( he of course took time off to fight evil and totally ravage his wife sexually) If Rex can roll out of the pocket without falling over, set his feet and fire the ball accurately..... he's going to be a pro bowler and the bears will be contending again. Have some faith in Rex..... Rex is not only a talented Quarterback, but he is going to be the most prolific Passer in Chicago Bears History. Ummm...that's not really saying much. Luckman...one year of Erik Kramer aaaaaannnnnd that's about it. But I hope you're right!
  7. White Sox play with that proverbial chip. And they always have hit Mussina pretty well. 12-2...Sahx
  8. WHITESOXRANDY kwolf68 Soxfan77 Flash Tizzle fathom and AnthraxFan93 if he's still lurking.
  9. QUOTE(bkmoney @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) thing is the people that usually pass through waivers are the people NO ONE wants. and NO ONE wants him because of his huge contract (relative to his performance) and we NEVER (ever?) give money to other teams. The idea would be that someone claims him (which they won't), the Sox either let him go or pull him back and work out a trade. Unless Jose puts together 2 VERY strong outings, I can't see him going anywhere until the off-season...and then he'll be gone.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) Last year he was one year less old and we traded Damaso Marte, a lefty reliever for him. ...Who had fallen WAAAAAAY out of favor with the White Sox. Meh, so, he's 23 and in A ball...so what? This clears the way to see what the youngsters can do. Ryan Sweeney...come on down! What is Dave Roberts doing? .329 OBP/.682 OPS Juan Pierre? .312 OBP/.644 OPS Gary Matthews, Jr? .334 OBP/.752 OPS I know Pods has been injured, but would you take multiple years of these guys over ONE YEAR of Podsednik? I wouldn't.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Yes, he'll get a whole lot of time at 1B and act as an insurance policy in case Alex Rodriguez opts out. Which would scare the bejesus out of me. Talk about expectations. I know they aren't a big fan of A-Rod in NY right now, but if he leaves and they lose that production...just wait for the NY Post to get a hold of a Wilson Betemit slump. Not good for a young player.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Like we are right now? Yeah, cuz there are no players on this team playing well. Like Buehrle, Vazquez, Konerko, Thome...nope...not a one.
  13. This board (and certain posters) is contradicting itself...on the one hand, we all want Kenny to do SOMETHING. On the other hand, we want it to be a White Sox heavy return. Well, what if it isn't White Sox heavy returns? We are going to be pissed. What if we don't trade anyone. We are going to be pissed. So, what exactly would you do? You can ask for whoever you want, but another team doesn't have to trade them to you. Basically, the Sox are damned if they do and damned if they don't. "You better trade Player X AND you better get THESE certain players or we will be pissed." Maybe Kenny is pulling a Chuck LaMar and overpricing his veterans. Maybe other GMs are overpricing their prospects. That's doesn't make for a very good trade market. AND, here's another thing to think about. The Twins are pissed that Ryan traded Luis Castillo. You just won 2/3 from the Indians. The Tigers and Indians are reeling a little. You are only 6.5 games back in the Wild Card and you have traded your leadoff hitter for a couple of so-so prospects. What does that tell your team? Was that worth it? Look, KW either will or he won't trade Dye, Garland, Contreras, Vazquez, whoever. They are still the White Sox. The only thing you can do is not go to the games. And that won't make the team any better. So...to be a little punny...DEAL with it.
  14. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) no no no!! I dubbed Prancer Mr. Glass last year, so grindErstad needs something else. How about "Former White Sox Center Fielder Darin Erstad?" It has a nice ring to it.
  15. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) maybe they would play drew in center? ramirez only has 1 more guaranteed year on his contract, maybe they will slide dye to left after he leaves Or Lowell isn't re-signed, Youkilis slides to 3B and Dye takes over 1B?
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:04 AM) If the white sox trade Garland in the offseason [which I agree, may be the only way to get enough talent to compete in the AL Central], it would be for a package better than the one they vetoed with the Astros [Hirsh, Taveras, Bucholz, with the sox wanting Pence]. All those guys were ready to step in and play in the bigs. No team in playoff contention now will trade 3, 4 guys from their major league roster. I believe only Tavares was on the major league roster at that time. Maybe Bucholz. But Pence and Hirsh were here in Round Rock.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) Yeah, that was supposed to take you to the Franklin and Lake which is right where Lake and N Wacker intersect, if you look that's where the green arrow is. I'm not really sure why it went a few blocks east like that. http://www.google.com/maps?q=W+Lake+St+%26...005021&z=18 I assume that's the building he's talking about. Ah Grasshopper, you are wrong... It IS N. Wacker and W. Randolph. Go a couple of blocks west and south.
  18. Victorino also hurt himself and said he heard a pop. Helloooooo...White Sox East.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) He can also play LF and perhaps be Thome's future replacement. Hey Bear...we've got Thome's future replacement. He's playing first right now.
  20. QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Do you mean the Smurfit-Stone Building? I always thought it looked pretty neat. Nope...that's Michigan and Randolph. Go West on Randolph. I can't even explain it. I've hated it ever since I saw it. Kinda looks like an crappy Connect Four board.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) KW= one year wonder Ryan= Constant Winner.. SNO RLY? Terry Ryan 1995-2007. That's 7 years below .500 + 6 years of above .500 but no WS vs. KW 2000- 2007. One year below .500 (this year) + 1 year of .500 + 5 years of above .500 + 1 WS ring If anything...a wash. But with the World Series ring...winnah!
  22. One must also consider other SS. Ripken wasn't like Ozzie Smith who would dazzle you with defensive range but, Ripken was a vacuum when it came within his range. Plus, he changed the position from light hitting defensive guys to bigger, more powerful players. He paved the way for the Tejada's, Renteria's and Jeter's of present day baseball. He's got to be pretty damn high on the list of HR's and hits for SS, as well. Accumulation stats are just as impressive. Shoot, players sneeze and are out for 15 days. Ripken played in 16+ seasons STRAIGHT!!! That's frickin' impressive. Finally, Ripken did more for the game of baseball than his stats would ever show. Both he AND Gwynn are ambassadors of the game, playing it the right way (except for Gwynn's weight...). Ripken was one of the top 5 recognizable players for a time. Gwynn is probably top 5-10 best pure hitters ever to play. They both deserve it.
  23. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) Their rotation is in trouble, not to mention their bullpen. They can slug it out with teams to win the division or wild card, but come playoff time they're going to need the same kind of pitching they got last year. Would Kenny ever make a trade with a division rival? I'd bet we could get a lot for Garland or Javy. The Tigers this season are starting to look a LOT like the Chicago White Sox circa 2006.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) Over exaggeration of the millenium. Fixed.
  25. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) This whole voting for who is best is beneath us, if you ask me. This messageboard community knows how great it really is. I dont think I can find one site out there that is as good for such a diverse community of dedicated fans. No matter what happens in that vote, there is only one #1 in my book. Spoken like a true loser.
