  1. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) The key phrase here is "limited time". Relying on fragile players and having no decent backup plan is a bad move. Pods may have a .377 OBP, but thats in 15 games and 55 at-bats. Look at the Sox LF (and CF) production as a whole. Both have to be among the worst in baseball, if not the worst. And that is a direct result of relying on Pods (and Erstad) and having aterrible minor league system. I'm not railing on Pods -- I don't dislike him or blame him for anything. But Williams mad a mistake bringing Pods back. It's true the FA options were not palatable, but a trade was still a possibility. Here's all I'm saying: asking Pods to be a full-season leadoff hitter at this point is like relying on Kerry Wood for 200 innings. It's not a good idea. Are you sure? Maybe Kenny didn't like what was out there? Or whoever he was going to trade with wanted to gut the Sox limited farm system or current roster? I am 95% sure Kenny tried to trade for a new leadoff hitter when the market when through the roof for fa's.

QUOTE(lord chas @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) that was some ending tonight. dont want to spoil it for anyone but any theories on that last scene but the obvious? I think he's too proud to actually do it. Could be wrong though.
  3. Oh you crazy PC lovers...the iPhone is going to be great...but not yet. They won't have 3G technology yet. And don't forget that the RAZR was $499 when it came out too. Now, they are giving them away. That's what I have and I like it except for one thing, if your ear isn't positioned right on the phone, it's hard to hear the caller. It isn't reception, it's the phone. Otherwise, it's been great.
  4. Will the D-Ray fans get more pizza? All signs point to "Yes." Still, Sox win and sweep: 6-3
  5. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) If JR really ok'd four years, and Buehrle is asking for $14 million per and not going to demand pushing this to five years, the sides have to be too close together for this not to get done. I will bet that the 5th year is a sticking point. Not because the Sox won't go there, but it's probably one of those team vs. player vs. mutual options and the money involved. Maybe not sticking point, but negotiation point. And I have nothing to back this up, just a hunch.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) I have no intentions of arguing about Scottie either. I absolutely understand he has been rather unreliable, considering his injury status over the past 18 months. I'm also not going to get into arguing about his production. I just have to stick up for him every once in a while because so many posters take some peculiar joy in constantly insulting him or whatever. Of all the sh*t players on this team right now, Pods is still the guy who continues to be picked apart. I just find it odd, that's all. Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled programming. Just give me a decent ss prospect from the Dodgers- that Chin Lung Hu kid or whatever, and I'll swap Dye straight up at this point... And just to back up iamshack, Pods knows this team and they know him. The Sox were not going to get into the Pierre/Matthews Jr. sweepstakes and Roberts is older and getting to be as injury prone. Of course, he's a better hitter, fielder and base runner, but not by much anymore. Pods is over .300 this year and his OBP is .377 in limited time. I'm assuming that will come back down to Earth a bit as he plays out the year, but $2.9 mil for 1 year is a decent contract for the Sox and one that will be easy to move if the Sox decide to do just that. Not to mention the fact that in his limited time, he has been productive. So, if you want to rail on someone, he should be weeeelllll down the list this year.
  7. It ain't happening, but if it did, and the Bulls picked up JamesOn Curry in the second round...I would be thrilled. Curry would score and is bigger than Gordon, but not by much. *drools*
  8. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:45 AM) The question remains- when Buehrle can get a Zito like 100+ million deal why would he settle for $50 million? Especially when you consider taxes are going to get out of control when the Socialist Hillary is elected... If he elects to give the Sox a break he'll sign for 4yrs/$60million with an option for a 5th year. And if I'm the Sox I jump all over that deal. I still don't buy the fact we cannot increase our payroll either moving forward. The team just needs to get more creative about bringing in revenues to keep the guys we have that are worthy of keeping- like MB. You mean like selling the start time of games? Deadlines don't lead to disaster, ultimatums do. Deadlines can be moved. Ultimatums can't be taken back. The Organization just wants to get started. Make some trades, maybe turn this season into a positive, learn what they have for '08. You don't want to drag this on for weeks and weeks...it isn't good for the player and it isn't good for the team. Relax people, I'm as excited for the possible signing of Buehrle as the next person, but it'll happen when it happens...or it won't and he'll be moved.
  9. What about someone to the Cubs for either Pie or Pagan? It doesn't seem as though Sweet Lou plays both at the same time. It's one or the other in CF. Based on numbers this year, Pagan might be the choice, but I think I'd rather have Pie. I don't know what they need pitching wise, maybe Vaz to replace Cy Marshall?
  10. Hey...maybe the Sox should be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline?
  11. I don't care it's 93 or 103 as long as it gets people out.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) I'm calling it, 3 run bomb for Crawford. I hate you.
  13. I was there...you said nothing...so I left.
  14. Who do you think is going to get the window seat? Mack or Uribe?
  15. Can't even hit one in the air??? Geez, Mack, time to sit.
  16. Alrighty Josh...they are disrespecting you...make 'em pay.
  17. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) have the baseball Gods decided we have suffered enough this month? This month??? Hell, this year!
  18. Juan, thanks for those two fantastic 9th inning plays in 2005...don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  19. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) IMO we are better off hanging on to Dye and taking the compensation picks. I am pretty sure he signed a major league deal when he was drafted, not sure how that works in terms of free agency. Tex is under contract/arbitration for 1 more year. He would be a free agent in 2008. Scroll to "T"
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Speaking to no one in particular, I'll throw this out -- if Williams has no intention of signing Buehrle, he should have already been traded. I just hate to think what could happen to his value if, god forbid, he's injured; or begins a streak of giving up 4+ runs in several consecutive starts. Then whatever value he had in his walk-year would be diminished even further. And yes, I realize he could injured any millions of ways living his life. However, if it were up to me and I knew Buehrle wouldn't sign with the White Sox, he'd already be in another uniform. There's no guarantee what will happen from this point forward. Only what Buehrle has already done; which is feast on National League opponents within the last month and heighten his value. Yes, but to be Devil's Advocate (I won't yell like Al Pacino, though), what if he throws another no-hitter? Or if he lowers his ERA to under 3? Then the Sox wouldn't have gotten enough. It'll happen or it won't happen. GO SOX!!!
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) BREAKING NEWS! Garland's growing the odd Buehrle beard. You heard wrong...they are growing the "Hermanson."
  22. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:33 AM) I don't know why I laugh so hard at that. Three in a row - let's get some mo going. I don't either, but it makes me laugh every time. Sox 7 D-Rays 6
