  1. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) No, I think they'll do what the Sox did and insult him by offering him 3 years for $ 34 mil. Ofcourse, they'll offer him pretty close to Zito money - atleast $ 80 mil. The White Sox haven't made a serious offer to him (I know that I can't be certain because I am not every other person in the world- good argument). Pffffft.
  2. QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Buehrle and Anderson: Yankees for Hughes and Farnsworth Contreras and Iguchi: Mets for Humber, Martinez and PTBNL (fringe prospect) Dye: Dodgers for DeJesus Jr and Loney Mackowiak: Brewers for 2 fringe prospects Lay off the glue.
  3. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) So, some of you think that the Sox would rather pay Mark many many millions of dollars more by waiting until after the season to try to sign Mark when all of the other 29 teams can make offers to him than sign him right now ? Well, I guess that's what dreams are for. So, you are assuming that other teams are going to offer him Zito-type money?
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) Why does everyone want Baldelli? He plays as often as Pods. No thanks. I was one of the biggest champions for trying to get Baldelli...I have fallen off the wagon. We don't need another glass-chinned outfielder. Delmon Young? Oh wait, the DRays would want the farm...literally.
  5. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) The Konerko and Mark situations are completely different. The Sox were willing to go long term with Paulie. He didn't give up huge money to sign with the Sox. Why don't some people get this ? The Sox will go only 3 years with a pitcher. Mark wants atleast 5- as he should. The Sox won't give it because it is too risky for a pitcher due to arm injury. Mark, and other pitchers, want the long term deal for the same reason. Last year, Zito got a 7 year deal. Mark will easily get offers for 5 years and probably some for 6. Can everyone see the difference between 3 years and 5 or 6 ? Which would you choose if you were Mark ? A 3 year $ 40mil. deal (which is MORE than the Sox have offered) or a 5 year $ 75 mil deal ? Let's see that's only a difference of $ 35 friggin million ! Well, Mark is only 28. If he has enough confidence in himself, maybe he would want to opt out sooner and get a BIGGER contract? Or maybe he just LIKES the White Sox? Or maybe the Sox will go to 4 with a mutual option for a 5th? The only person who truly knows what it will take is Mark Buehrle and unless you, somehow are the living embodiment of Mark's head, none of us knows what exactly is going to happen. Until Mark has signed on the dotted line, I will not say he will NEVER come back to the White Sox. Cuz, ya never know.
  6. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) If I were Kenny Williams, I would trade Konerko, Thome, Mackowiack, Uribe, Pods, Erstad, A.J., Iguchi, Dye, Crede, Buehrle, Contreras, Garland, Vazquez, Jenks, Thornton and MacDougal between now and next season for as many top prospects as I could possibly get. What could they bring ? Maybe 3 top prospects each for Konerko, Garland and Vazquez. 2 each for Mark, Jenks, Thome, Contreras and A.J. One each for the rest. That's 25-30 top prospects. I'm thinking about 7 or 8 A-/B+ level prospects and probably 20 B / B-/C+ level prospects. This would give the Sox an interesting team for the fans to watch next year and get their farm system jump started so that within 2 years they could have serious depth and still begin playing competitive baseball. They save tons of payroll for the next 2 years and develop a handful of young stars. Then, add a few free agents and they could seriously contend in 2010. Plus, they will have 2 drafts in which they will have great position and no excuses - spend the money on draft picks and player development. That's really the only way that the Sox can build this team back up to a serious contender and an exciting team. They already have Danks, Gio, Floyd, Egbert and a few other good arms. They already have Fields and Sweeney. I say go for it. Would Kenny do it ? Would Jerry do it ? Would the fan base support it ? Yes, attendance would drop significantly next year but once Sox fans see our young Crawfords, Pabelbons, Rios, Verlanders, Lincecums, etc. - people will get excited and start coming out again. Ladies and Gentleman, YOOOOOUUUUUURRRRR 2008 Chicago Devil Rays!!! Yeah, Randy...I'd have to agree, I'm glad you aren't KW. At least the team we have here HAS won something before.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) He's a strikeout machine that will have to make a lot of adjustments to be successful regularly in the major leagues. I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that he will have a high OBP at this point. I think people are forgetting Crede hit 30 homers and was hitting over .300 until his back gave way last season. If he's healthy, he's damn good. Better than Fields. If he's hurt, Fields is better, but its not like he's lighting it up right now. Because, he takes pitches. I think he's a better hitter than Crede. Not as much power, but a better hitter. Better approach at the plate. And Crede IS hurt and will stay hurt. Back problems, even with surgery, usually do not go away. Those are scary. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I'll take my chances with Fields at this point. Yeah, he strikes out a lot, but so does Hunter Pence and he's batting .350.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Your wife and my wife are cut from the same cloth. Sunday at 10:30 is going to be a recurring steel cage match over who gets the remote control. Hey, how did you know what our bedroom looked like?
  9. I think Peanut is next. Tommie scares me though. Isn't his agent Rosenhaus? I think he has two years left on his contract, if that's the case, I can see the Bears waiting until next offseason to have more money available (going by $14 mil for Vashers signing bonus and assuming Tillman gets the same). But that might hurt the Bears. I don't know, man, I think Tommie Harris needs to be signed, but I'm not sure he won't want to try the open market.
  10. I like it, but... Me: "Hey look, Flight of the Conchords is on." Wife: "Nope." Me: "But...." Wife: "Nope." Me: "I'll let you watch Legally Blonde or The Sweetest Thing next time it's on." Wife: "Nope." Gotta start DVR'ing it.
  11. First of all, Garland was NOT homegrown. Brought in from the Cubs for Matt Karchner. Only Crede, Fields, Andy Gonzalez, Boone Logan and Buehrle are home grown talents on the current roster. And I don't see Gonzalez or Crede staying past next year. Second, don't forget Mike Hampton's contract. Yikes.
  12. Good for the Bears. They look like the good guys in all of this. They stand behind their troubled player, give him another chance. When he effs it up, say, hey, man, we gave you your chance, thanks but SEE YA!
  13. ALRIGHT...Everyone needs to take their Grinder Glasses off. Does it make more sense for Kenny to gut the team or to try and get the best value in return? AND, all things being equal, you think there will be more trades or less? A couple of pieces will be dealt, but not all of them. Not because he won't trade them, but because other teams won't offer what the Sox want. OR, they just weren't on the market anyway. OR, we want the draft picks. This is a prediction thread, not an XBox thread. I say 3-4 players go out the door, not 6 or 7 like some of you are predicting. Jeez, the Sox do have talent on this team, but for whatever reason, they are having a collective brain fart.
  14. This isn't about the DUI, it's about the Bears having Tank's back to the press, to the NFL and to the commissioner. Now, as someone said, they have made the Bears look like fools. They won't take that and I expect him to be released shortly after the positive (if they are) results.
  15. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) First question is whether the Sox are CONSIDERING trading Bobby Jenks? IMO, if the Sox won't be competitive for many years, then why do we need a upper-echelon closer like Jenks? Given that Jenks is locked up for many years at a reasonable rate, he could probably fetch MORE than anyone of the Starting Pitchers. Agree? If we blow up the team, why would we keep Jenks? He seems like a luxury that a rebuilding team should not have..... Thoughts? Why don't we just trade the entire team for the Brewers AAA team? C'mon NC, you can't trade EVERYONE. Of course he would get a lot, but the point that KW has made time and time again, he wants to RETOOL, not RELOAD. Maybe people on this board don't agree with this stance, but it's the White Sox stance and he's sticking to it.
  16. There's no way we will trade ALL of those players. Dye - He gawn. Iguchi - He gawn. Buehrle - He gawn, probably. Contreras - Unless it's the Mets, grab some bench. Maybe someone like Cintron, Mackowiak or Podsednik...but I doubt it.
  17. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) I heard the rumors for Boston. What does everyone think about Jon Lester? As Dana Carvey doing George H. W. Bush: "Not gonna happen."
  18. Before we bash the White Sox organization for not giving out 5 year deals, is there anyone out there that has some time that can check on pitchers that have been worth their while over the length of a 5+ year contract? Also, how many of those pitchers have stayed with the team they signed the contract with? Obviously, Zito is out since he just signed. I don't have time to do any research.
  19. Well, if you look at the 2005 White Sox, it was a team full of Erstad's. If you look at the 2003 White Sox, it was a team full of Ramirez'. Individually, I'll go with Aramis, team-wise, it's Erstad all the way.

    Rescue Me

I agree that Season 3 was kinda disappointing. But so far, season 4 (all 2 episodes of it) have been good so far. We'll see where it goes.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) That's just idiotic! Even if the kid was blown away by USC (what 8th grader wouldn't be?), and he truly wants to go there, why publicize it now? What good does "committing" publicly as an 8th grader do? This one falls on the parents as much or more than anybody else. This is something that the NCAA should crack down on. No commitments until you're a junior. I mean, what's the damn point. If the kids want to visit a school, fine, on their own time and dime. But no verbal or LOI's until your high school junior year. Not sure if that's even doable, but it makes sense to me.
  22. Most of the time, I'll take experience and average-above average speed over lifetime AAAA player. That's just me, though (and Kenny Williams and Ozzie Guillen).
  23. Shoooooot...I'll take two 8-game streaks with a 2 or 3 game losing strake in the middle every day of the week and twice on Sundays. And about the firesale...depends what you mean by firesale...I don't think Dye, Iguchi or Buehrle are going after this weekend, but some smaller pieces might. Does that constitute a firesale?
