Ravech is great, but he looks annoyed most of the time. I don't know if Gammons is full strength yet after his stroke, but, Ravech, Gammons and Kruk would be a great team. Also, I am growing fonder of Orestes Destrade. I think he's going to be excellent given time.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 23, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) The streak was for consecutive starts of 6+ innings, not "quality" starts. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2007 As a staff, the White Sox have 26 quality starts in their first 42 games. They're fourth, with first (Angels) at 30, with Cleveland and Oakland at 28. Obviously, Cleveland, if they continue to get that kind of pitching, they're going to be hard to defeat. Our best bet might be taking down the Tigers. The Indians will not continue their hot streak at home and they are one injury away from being middle of the pack. I wouldn't worry about them...at least until after the all-star break.

Informal Poll: How many states have you been to?
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in SLaM
Let's see: Maine New Hampshire Massachusetts Rhode Island New York Pennsylvania North Carolina Virginia Maryland Georgia Florida Mississippi Louisiana Tennessee Kentucky Arkansas Illinois Indiana Ohio Michigan Iowa Minnesota Missouri Oklahoma Texas New Mexico Arizona Utah Colorado Washington Oregon Nevada California By the end of the year, I will add Vermont and possibly Hawaii to the list. 33 down...17 to go. -
Rex has had one...count 'em...one full season in the NFL. I haven't given up on him yet. I still think he can be a damn good QB for the Bears. There are only two things that have really changed for the offense...trading Thomas Jones and moving Devin Hester to offense...both can be awesome. I'm not writing off Grossman yet, and the Bears aren't either. THAT'S why they won't do this trade. Besides, I think the Bears would rather stick it to Briggs and Rosenhaus... ...secretly, of course.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) WHo gives a s*** about the feelings of our back up QB. Is McNabb better than both Qb's on our team? Yes. After all the avatar compliments...you rip me like this. Rock...that's so not nice. And who gives a s***? The Bears, that's who. If this were McNabb three years ago, then yes, get him. NOw, I'm not so sure about his psyche. Those Iggles fans are rough on their players, not to mention, again, he would be coming home and there would be a lot of pressure on him to win here. Again, I say no.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 22, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) No but your glorifying him by ranting about him for several pages. There might be a member of this site that doesn't regularly read his columns that decides to pick up the next Sun Times to see what the fuss is about. Or vice versa.

David 'Dave' Veltri: Little news flash, Pop. Ha. Harold ain't so perfect. Remember that time in Puerto Rico when we picked up those two, uh... well, I guess they were prostitutes, but I don't remember paying. Best guitar player in the wor-rld...yee-aahh.

Dude, enjoy life. If you like this girl, just be nice to her and her parents. Don't GIVE them a reason to dislike you. If they do, then it's on them. If it's too much for you...move on. But if you think you may really like this girl, what the hell, you ARE young and have plenty of time to make up for any time with this girl. But like I said, just be nice and honest with this girl and her parents and you really can't do anything else besides that.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 22, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) Whatever, include Rex in the deal if you have to. I don't hate Rex like a lot of people but he is no McNabb when Donovan is healthy. No...No...NO! Griese is already a little peeved. Could you imagine if they brought in McNabb? Even if they threw in either Griese or Rex. And if THAT were the case, then we need more back that just McNabb. No f'in way. Not too mention the added pressure of winning in your home town.

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ May 22, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) The latest I've seen on rivals is he said he has a new top 5 and it is Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Illinois, and Texas. He said he definatly will visit Kansas, Kentucky, and Memphis. He said a visit to Texas is a possiblity. He did not mention Illinois, but being in state I'm sure an unofficial visit would be easy to do. Watch Bill Self pluck another Chicago gem when this one is all over! If he comes to Texas, I'll be sure to wear all Illini gear and sing the Alma Mater outside of the Erwin Center... ...ok, maybe not sing.

The White Sox, from owner on down, have been very outspoken over the years. Some pick their spots (Reinsdorf), some spout off but can usually back it up (KW), and some have diarrhea of the mouth (Ozzie), but ever since I was a kid, the White Sox were the team that had to speak louder, make brash statements and maybe be even a little controversial to be noticed. This is as much a Chicago thing as it is a White Sox thing. That's why the White Sox are Chicago's team and the Cubs should be called the USA Cubs and rotate home games in different stadiums every year. As long as the White Sox have this attitude (and I hope it never changes, cuz that's what I love about them), then there will be Mariotti's out there. Even if the S-T fires Jay, there will be someone else that comes along and does the same thing. Just the way it is. Bottom line, read it or don't read it, give your opinion or don't give your opinion.... Personally, I think he's a moron and have stopped reading his column whether it's about the Sox or Bulls or soccer or whatever. I'm done with Mariotti...I'd rather read a romance novel.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 22, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) This guy is pitching for Oakland? Nope, this guy is... Or at least I hope he won't be throwing too much of it up there.

In my group of friends, at the bachelor party, we come up with words and phrases that the best man has to work into the speech. Some are just funny, some are dirty (and don't usually end up in the final speech, unless the Best Man is REALLY creative) and some only have meaning to us. Each is assigned a point value depending on degree of difficulty incorporating it into the speech. As the best man gives the speech, our friend who's idea this was marks off the words used. In fact, at mine, one of the words was Bingo! but it had to be used by someone listening. It worked and he was awarded 5 points. At the end, the points are tallied up and our friend, who is wealthy, gives the Best Man a choice, either take the value in dollars or he'll double it and give it to charity. I have to say, it's fun and hilarious to show the Sheet to other people after the speech is over, although you have to be careful with it, just in case it's too dirty. I know this doesn't help, but I wanted to share our little game we play. As for your speech, just be yourself...try to be funny, but don't talk about certain things like exes. Good luck and congrats to your friend.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 19, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) I've been going that route but it hasn't been helping much. Step 1: Buy whiskey. Step 2: Go to kitchen. Step 3: Grab a paring knife. Step 4: Drink bottle of whiskey. Step 5: Cut.... Step 6: Go to hospital.

Bears DE Alex Brown asks premission to seek a trade
CanOfCorn replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 21, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) The signing bonus in alot of cases acts as a guarantee for at least the first few years of a multi-year deal, as most teams wouldn't want to, or couldn't if they did want to, take the cap hit for releasing or trading someone early in the contract. PLayers get their big money up front, they should stop complaining because they don't like the back end. I complain cuz I don't like the back end either. Wait, we're talking about different things here, aren't we? -
I wouldn't read too much into this...I think KW likes the flexibility of having that extra spot open...just in case.

I wonder if Phelps would protest his own funeral?

My roommate in college actually said, in a normal conversation with me, "Yeah, my dad Jew-ed him down on the car." Being Jewish, I did what everyone should probably do...made fun of him. I told him that I got my education for free because I "Jew-ed" the state. And that, from that day forward, I wasn't paying any rent. Laugh people, that's the only way you are going to get through this crazy life filled with idiots. (Present company excluded...mostly)

The thing is...they could be switched at any time. Old AL West...Minny. Mid 90's...Indians. Last couple of years...Minny or Detroit. The thing is, though, every year the Cubs series is huge to FANS. I think many of you are thinking like players or members of the organization. And they probably aren't voting.

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) I agree. I know we are a month and a half into the season, and we have been saying this since the season started but it's just a matter of time before our offense gets hot and produces like it's capable of. We have had a tough schedule so far and even without our offense being in sync, we are still 3 games over .500. The pitching has been unbelievable and carried us so far. I am sure they are gonna hits some rough spots through the year, but hopefully when it does the offense will pick em up. I would rather have the offense struggling to start the season than I would the pitching. It's easier to pick up a bat at the trade deadline, than it is to find pitching. But I believe this team is too talented offensively to continue to struggle like it has been. Plus if Hall, and Thome can stay healthy the rest of the year, that will be key. I'm not counting on Pods at all the rest of the year. The guy is made of crystal, he's too injury prone. KW shouldn't have counted on him at all this year. He messed up. But, he's also done alot since becoming GM so I'll give him a pass on that. He deserves it. Things could be alot worse!!! I'm sure he'll be able to sleep tonight because of this. More importantly than being 3 games over .500, they are only 3.5 games out of first.

Keep winning these series and we'll be back in first in no time. Well, at least second.

I'm only watching Gameday, but it looks like Garland's battling today. 4 BB, 0 K. 48 strikes, 38 balls. This is the sign of a good pitcher...battle through your crap games. Let's go Jonny boy!
