Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
CanOfCorn replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Anyone thing the Sox will go after A-Rod if he opts out of his contract? I know he's going to be ridiculously expensive, but Kenny him. Then the IF could be Konerko, new 2B, A-Rod and Fields. Not saying it's going to happen, just wondering if anyone is considering him. -
Happy Birthday!!! Just don't say "it." Oh, I said "it!" I said "it" again! Ohhhhh...

As a self-professed, "That guy," I love this list. It's spot on. And I think, from now on, he SHOULD be referred to as "The Cromwell."

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
CanOfCorn replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I hear Roberto Alomar is coming out of retirement. -
Sox won't trade for prospects....
CanOfCorn replied to EvilJester99's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
The Sox are only three games back of the Wild Card in the loss column. THAT'S the stat you should be looking at. And, to borrow a hockey term, the Sox have 3 games in hand on the Tigers, A's and Twins, and one on the Mariners. I'm not saying they ARE going to do it, I'm just saying they aren't as far out as it seems. -
No truth to Dye for Abreu??!!?
CanOfCorn replied to SoxFan562004's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Right now...I wouldn't do that. Abreu doesn't have the power numbers he used to have...I think on the game yesterday they were saying he's hitting a hr every 44 at bats where he used to be around 1 every 19 abs. He's not what he used to be. I'll take the cheaper not-what-he-used-to-be over the more expensive one. -

Andy Katz: Donovan wants to go back to Florida
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:37 PM) To me, that's a fair move. It's fair for the NBA, but I can't imagine, after this debacle, that he would go back to the NBA. He's kinda setting himself up to build a REAL program at Florida. You know, compete with Kentucky every year for the SEC crown. I think they need to hit him in the wallet if they can. -
I think this is the line-up we are going to see for awhile...or at least until Sunday.

Andy Katz: Donovan wants to go back to Florida
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Supposedly, the NBA might ban him from going to the NBA for 5 years... So what? He probably wouldn't do it now anyway. Going to the Magic would have been the easiest place to go...no pressure like the Heat, not rebuilding like the Hawks and near Gainesville, so he could keep his family close. I think the Magic should let him out of the deal and the Gators shouldn't take him back...but that's just me. I'm sure he's sorry and feels horrible, but, he's hurt the Magic, he's hurt the Gators, he's hurt Anthony Grant of VCU, he's hurt the players that thought they were going to play for him...I don't care if a team gives you a 24 hour window or not...this is a big decision and if a team is going to force you to make that decision to pick up and leave a good job, move your family, etc., then I would tell them, either 1) if you want me that bad, give me a couple more days to discuss and think about it or 2) get bent because it isn't fair to me. Donovan lost a little shine on that hair of his with this move. -
Also, if you read DAvid Haugh's article today in the Trib, Tank can still have individual workout sessions, can go to OTA's, training camp and can play in preseason games. Roger Goodell is doing an excellent job of taking other issues into consideration before meting out punishment.

Mike Lowell for Third Base next year?
CanOfCorn replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) How else would you describe Fields? He'll be a K monster next year. He is a K monster down in AAA. Crede's not very good, either. Caught lightning in a bottle last year and that was that. Yeah, well, that'll only comfort me depending on what we get in free agency, but I suspect we'll be picking up someone like Byrnes more than Ichiro. Lowell...downside of his career and expensive. Crede...back troubles and only one more year of cheapness. Fields...getting better and cheap. -
North vs South question for the ages... or at least 07
CanOfCorn replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hmmm...NorthSideSox72 vs. southsider2k5... I think I'd have to pick southsider2k5, just because of history. /green -
QUOTE(StatManDu @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) From the semi-useless info dept ... Jerry Owens was the first player the White Sox ever acquired from the Washingtion Nationals. ... On March 13, 2005, the Sox obtained Owens from the 'Nasty Nats' for fellow outfielder Alex Escobar. For the record, the last player the Sox acquired from the Montreal Expos, who relocated to Washington, was Carl Everett. On July 18, 2004, the Sox traded pitchers Gary Majewski and Jon Rauch to Montreal for Everett. So now you know! And knowing is half the battle.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) Joe Mauer Justin Morneau Francisco Liriano Johan Santana Non-bed wetting bullpen We don't have any of the above. That's true. We don't. So, you know what? Let's call it a season right now. I say, get the team, coaches, front office, grounds crew, vendors, ticket sellers, everyone and tell them to go home. Why bother playing the next 113 games? I mean, it's probably better to trade players when they aren't playing, that way they won't get hurt, right? Records were made to be broken and stats just give you an idea of what has or could happen. Until the White Sox are mathmatically eliminated from the post-season, I won't give up on them being there. And until the 162nd game of the season is played, I will not stop backing this team, come hell or high water. As John "Bluto" Blutarski so finely said, "Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"..."What the f*** happened to the SoxTalk I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Can, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Ordonez, he's a dead man! Hafner, dead! Morneau...."

The Twins were 24-29 and 11 1/2 games back last year. They seem to have won the division if I remember correctly.

"...he's a demon on wheels." DAMMIT!!! Now I have that song in my head bouncing around with "True" by Spandau Ballet. Anyone have a sharpened stick suitable for eardrum poking?

Look, we've already traded Gio Gonzalez for Gio Gonzalez. Do we have to trade Aaron Rowand for Aaron Rowand, too?

Sorry Kalapse, I was thinking Matt Cain, not Noah Lowry.
