Pac Man gone for season, Henry for 8 games
CanOfCorn replied to WilliamTell's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
My question is this...neither Henry nor Jones has done any jail time, have they? Besides a night in the slammer, that is. If the judicial system means anything to the NFL, and it may not, Tank should get less than both. Call it time served, but he's spending 4 months in jail...so maybe 4 games? I don't know, someone who goes to court, gets sentenced and pays the price, to me, shouldn't be punished more just to set an example. That's just me, of course...so flame on! -
QUOTE(shoota @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) Sometimes divorce can be quite pleasant, a blessing in disguise. Judging from the way Contreras pitched last night, this could be one of those cases. Addition by marital subtraction. Divorce is never pleasant.

White Sox "collapse" in Power Ratings after 1 game?
CanOfCorn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
AT this point, they are probably going by what team they think has more talent. For instance, the Astros are better than 2-5. And so are the Phillies. The Twins probably are worse than their record at this point. After a week, you can't say much about any team good or bad, unless there are significant injuries. -
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Feel bad for him but that is life! Wow...I hope you never go through one. Because it feels like it's the end of your life, especially if you aren't expecting it. Doesn't matter if someone screwed up or not. Those of you who haven't been touched by or been through a divorce should just stay out of this thread unless they have something to say about baseball...not blame or harsh comments about it "being life."

Hospital Acts as Toddler's Judge Jury and Executioner
CanOfCorn replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Lawmakers...definitely not! (I'm talking to you Bill Frist!) Honestly, it should probably be some combination. Doctors don't know everything and family is too close to the patient. There needs to be open communications between the two. if you put my feet to the fire, I'd have to say the final judgement should be made by the family...paying or not. -
I remember 24. Oh wait, no I don't. Happy BDAY!!!

QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) The point is that they (the White Sox) are the only team to do this, though they probably won't be the last ... selling out the baseballl writers for a few bucks. Maybe the team should start selling beer for $15 each so they can re-sign Dye. And I still fail to see what any of this has to do with coal mining. Last I checked, fans are already paying way more than they used to for the exact same thing. In other words, 4 seats, four meals and 4 drinks are a lot more than they were 10,, 20, 30 years ago. Press seats have been and probably will always be free. So, I see nothing wrong with moving them down the line. They are still free, they are still warm and I thought the food was free too, but that may have changed since I worked Bulls and 'Hawks games. So again, I say...if you are up in arms, stay at home. EDIT: Plus, the press already has "picked sides" as to who is for and who is against the White Sox, Reinsdorf, Williams and Guillen, I don't think this will change anything.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) I think the idea is that you can never really rehab or reform a pedophile/ child molester. They are always going to have those urges and desires. Keeping them away from children is the best way to prevent them from doing anything again. This doesn't really bother me one bit. Don't molest children and be convicted of a crime, and you won't have a problem. Or, if its that big of a problem in Miami, move elsewhere. They probably can't move if they are under probation. This is a problem and there should be a halfway house for this kind of thing. If you can't find a place to live, that's where you go. It's not ideal...but in lieu of jailing them forever or the ol' snippety snip...what else can you do?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) Well, it looks like this site's resident geologist has somehow managed to weasel his way into the 20,000 post club. In under 2 years I might add. Man, it would be nice to see another trophy before I get to 30,000. It's not quantity, it's quality...and you have a long way to go before you hit 20,000 QUALITY posts, my friend.

ONe thing that I'm surprised no one has brought up is the fact that he was the GM of the team for awhile. What other broadcaster has done THAT for their team? He has an inner knowledge of the White Sox from the owners on down to the players. And it goes deep and way back. We Sox fans are a very insular bunch. When we're winning, we want to be noticed, but not tooooo much, because then we become the Cubs. We don't want bandwagoners. When we are losing, we are probably the most critical of our team other than maybe Phillie fans. We live and die with this team because this team is pure Chicago, not National like the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers. The White Sox are our team and we like it that way. You can't have them, get your greedy mitts off of them. Hawk is like watching the game with one of those guys. Sure, he's sounds like he's a hick from Georgia with some of his sayings, but you know what? He IS a hick from Georgia and those sayings, for the most part, are pure gold. I've picked up most of them when I watch games now...whether it's a Sox game or a Round Rock Express game. The man is getting older and it's probably getting more difficult for him whether he wants to admit it or not, but there is NO OTHER announcer that can make me laugh, spin a yarn or get as excited about a team as much as Hawk...and for that, I think he can stay until the last thing he says in the booth will be about himself... I'm Gawn.

We will now go on a tear and at the end of the season be 160-2. You can book it!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) So, let's say Podz suckz all month and they make this move, with Erstad in LF and Anderson in CF. What's the best lineup? Because I'm not sure who to put in the 2-slot. Would it be BA? Uribe's K rate is actually lower than Anderson's, he seems to be taking more pitches this year, and I think he can bunt, but he is a dead pull hitter especially on the infield and has low OBP's. I can't see anyone who fits the 2-slot profile (good contact hitter, low K rate, can bunt, can hit the ball consistently to the right side). Putting Gooch back there seems a shame now, given he was upset about it for 2 years and he seems OK down there now. So here is a name to consider - AJ. He can put the ball to the right side, his K rate is lower than Gooch, BA or Uribe, and his OBP last year was .333. The lineup then looks like this... Erstad LF Pierzynski C Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Crede 3B Gooch 2B Uribe SS Anderson CF Now one obvious problem with this lineup is that its 3 straight lefties followed by 6 straight righties. But that seems a smallish price to pay compared the benefit. AJ did hit .270 vs LHP last year which isn't horrible, and if you sit him, you can move BA or Gooch up to the 2-hole. Also, AJ isn't exactly a burner on the basepaths, but he's not Konerko either. Thoughts? Alternatives? What about this: Erstad LF Anderson CF Thome Konerko Dye Crede AJ Iguchi Uribe I think batting second might take some of the pressure off of Anderson. All he has to do is make contact or bunt or take some pitches. He doesn't have to produce from the bottom of the order, or set anyone up. His job would be to move Erstad and put him in position to be driven in by the Big Three. I know he didn't show a whole heck of a lot last year, but why not give him a try there.

QUOTE(JERMAINEDYE4MVP @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 12:38 AM) FACT! I REALLY DON'T THINK THIS TEAM IS GOING TO BE ANY GOOD THIS SEASON AND I BELIEVE THAT KW WILL TRY AND TRADE DYE, BUEHRLE, IGUCHI, THOME, CREDE, AND EVEN KONERKO BEFORE THE DEADLINE KIND OF LIKE THE MARLINS DID AND PICK UP YOUNG TALENT. DISCUSS. I CAN'T DISCUSS WITH YOU YELLING AT ME LIKE THAT!!!!!!! I think you should take this thread and stick it in your back pocket until AT LEAST the end of May. Then, if the Sox are SuXor...you can start this thread again. Last I checked 160 > 2.

Isn't this what Paulie did a couple of years ago? Let the Sox offer and it may not have been the same or more, but it was close, so he stayed.

Chester Frazier's Father passes away
CanOfCorn replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
That's horrible. He's had to suffer through a lot this year. I hope the team rallies around him. Thoughts and prayers, Chester.
