  1. Huh? So, Morris declared for the draft as a freshman, didn't hire an agent, went back to school, but he doesn't have to go through the draft now? That doesn't make any sense. Can he play right away? Does anyone know?
  2. QUOTE(Soxy @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) To hazzard a guess, I would say the change was education. More women started staying in school longer and getting their own careers. I would also say it was common up until WWI. And lifespan.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Yeah, Illinois decided Matta and Gillespie weren't good enough and were turned down by Crean before hiring Weber. Oops. Guenther wanted someone who would stay with the program. Not sure if Illinois was a career for Matta or Gillispie. Weber WUBS the Big Ten and if he can get this team back to the top again, I doubt he would bolt for a job like Kentucky. Gotta remember that when you are bagging on him for the millionth time.
  4. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) This is going to CRUSH my sister!!! She always LOVED him. He was so damn funny. Remember how great he and Chris Elliot made Letterman's show back in the old days? The man under the stairs always made me laugh. RIP to Calvert and to Chris Elliot's career.
  5. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:13 AM) 8/10, the only one I actually knew was Berkowitz. Yeah, what he said. 8/10
  6. Congrats! And welcome aboard Caitlin to the White Sox Crazy Train.
  7. If Brown is healthy, then he moves back to FS and Archuleta goes to SS. He will shore up the run defense even more. And the times they run the Cover-2...Arch just needs to cover an area and not let anyone get behind him. He thrived with Lovie and Babich in St. Louis, there's no reason to think he won't again. This move provides a lot of depth with Danieal Manning, Chris Harris, Ricky Manning Jr and Dante Wesley, if we keep him.
  8. I think it's going to go down to the wire as to who starter #5 is going to be. Personally, I think they are sold on Floyd, just because of his experience. But, who knows?
  9. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:46 AM) Jimbo's is "kinda sorta" expensive. I personally prefer Puffers, as it's just around the block from my house...and I know one of the bartenders at Jimbo's, if she still works there, that is. I think it's that I don't like that they serve cans of beer. :/ But at least when I go and shes there, I hardly pay much. You don't like it because they serve beer in cans? That's the best way to enjoy a beer before a Sox game. Especially if it comes in a king can!
  10. New Mexico USED to be a great basketball school and has the potential to be again. UNM-NMSU was a great rivalry with Neil McCarthy and whoever was at UNM at the time. The Pit was always one of the toughest places to play. AND it's a basketball school FIRST. Iowa is a football school first. I find it real hard to believe that Kruger would leave LV to go to IC. I'm not saying he won't, but UNLV is a bigger bball school and has more recent success.
  11. I don't think it's becoming more acceptable, I think more people are getting caught and not let off the hook. For instance, I dont' think this is happening as much..."Oh, um, hi Mr. Larussa. Look, let me call someone to come get you and we'll just let this be a warning, ok?" Cops are cracking down on this more.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Why Mack can play 1st also. I trust Hall at 1st, with Kong as the DH, and AJ as the catcher more than I trust Thome hitting against a lefty. I trust Erstad at 1st more than Hall. JMHO.
  13. QUOTE(shaneomacfan @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Reports starting to pop up in IC that New Mexico asked to talk to Stevie Wonder, now it sounds like he's told some players that he's leaving. If true, there's gonna be a huge party here. Who do you guys think would make a good replacement? Lowery(sorry SIU guys), Altman, Kruger? I'll take anything at this point! If true...Altman is probably your best bet. How about the guy at UNI? Maybe Dr. Tom will come back?
  14. I really hope Pods kicks some major ASS this year to shut all you up. Actually, if he hits .280 and has an OBP of .345, I think all of you Pods haters are going to have to eat some major crow. C'mon, Ozuna and Mack with Guch leading off? No bueno.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) im glad you are living in bizarro baseball world then, because I would love a run in every 1st inning of every game. Rock, we seem to be thinking alike a lot lately. AND I DIG THAT ABOUT YOU!!!
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Both people are correct. I'm sure that really helped, Tex.
  17. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) To me that goal is just a lucky shot. He dove and swatted his stick and it went in. Here are some great goals...not sure of the language. Man I miss good Blackhawk hockey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTy30lYpRvo Tony Amonte and Jeff Shantz...the good ol' days...and those weren't that good. But Owen Nolan's called shot goal was AWESOME!!! "I'm comin' to get you." Classic.
  18. QUOTE(joeynach @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Thats just the way it is. And thats true for most teams. April is a low attendance month period. Only teams that are exempt are inelastic teams, meaning teams whose performance or other on field criteria don't equate to the ticket sales or attendance. Those are the teams who draw based on hype, stadium, history, name, popularity I.E.; cubs, yankees, redsox, dodgers,etc. Most teams must draw based on performance at some point. For the sox and a lot of other teams the summer months mean better weather, no school, free weeknights, pennance race, plus the warm day cold beer factor that you jsut dont get in April. So i dont think its really a big deal. I think thats just the way it is. Personally, my family and I dont really attack the April ticket market. My mom and sisters complain about the cold/wind/rain and wont have a good time in those conditions (they will whine) and frankly I enjoy the nice weather too so I can just focus on the game not being cold or having my nose run and such. Besides opening weekend, I don't think the Cubs sell out in April all that much either. I could be wrong though, cuz when I go...I go for the Old Style and the boobies.
  19. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) I know it's spring training, but what's with sac bunting in the first inning? I think I don't like Ozzieball...Grinderball...whatever it's called. Why not? That's an important way to score in the regular season, so why not start now?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) The reason the Super Bowl is the most popular thing going is because of square pools and the odd proposition betting. I agree with you 100%. Fantasy football is also a huge driver of the NFL, who has embraced it, unlike MLB who has fought it. The reason the Super Bowl is the most popular thing is the show. The show that starts 6 hours before the game. The show that happens in between the game (commercials) and the halftime show. Yes, squares and betting do help, but it's an event more than it's a game, now. The NCAA Tourney is an 18 day event that, for the most part, people like to watch no matter if their team is in it or not.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) Uribe and Anderson have combined for 11Ks. Of course they have 4 HR and 8BB between them as well. Ersty has 0 and 2, respectively, though not respectably. [slitting wrists] Mmm...White Sox are doing poorly in the preseason. Spring Training even. [/slitting wri...........
  22. I odn't understand you Irish peeps. The ONLY way to have corned beef is on rye with spicy mustard surrounded by cops, firemen, politicos and other city employees at Manny's. THAT'S a death row meal! And I can't forget the potato pancake.
  23. Sorry, I don't do impressions.
