  1. Fields/Erstad/Sweeney When Fields plays 3B Owens/Erstad/Sweeney
  2. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) A WHITE SOX WINNER, AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP! just kidding It's sad b/c if it wasn't for our latest piece of crap in the bullpen, Bobby Jenks, we could have just gained 3 games on Cleveland. Instead, it's only 1. I'll take series wins. Better 2 of 3 and gain some confidence (I hope).
  3. Oh...my...god...the last two days were UNBEARABLE!!! Or un-Sox-able, whichever is your favorite team. Thanks for the hard work guys...now about those bugs.....
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) Give Richar a shot. If we can't plug in some of these kids and actually have success with them, we'll be pretty much screwed anyway. You can't hire a FA mercenary to fill every single hole you have unless you're on Yankee salaries. Yeah...what you said!
  5. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) I look forard to seeing what Wasserman has to offer the bullpen. Anything has to be better than what we have seen right? *fingers crossed*
  6. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) not sure if its still around but i had made a post about 16 relievers in just the AL that are from teams with no chance of competiting. (TB, Balt, TX, KC, etc) The point is, that when he had a chance and the team had a chance, KW chose to do nothing. Now, when the team is past the point of no return, any move that KW makes to better the team is too late. He didn't give the team a chance to win in 2007. Um...yeah, you are assuming that those teams that employed the 16 relievers were willing trade partners. Do you know that KW DIDN'T call their GMs and ask for Special Reliever "A?" Cuz, if they are that good of a reliever, perhaps they wanted to wait until closer to the deadline to start a bidding war? Alls I'm sayin' is, it takes two to tango.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) I'm a big Ian Stewart fan, so I would want him. With Garrett Atkins at 3B, Helton at 1B, and the OF pretty much set, there really isn't much space for him. Contreras wouldn't get it done, but maybe we could add something? Don't think that the Rockies aren't going to deal away Helton and his contract at some point. Maybe not before July 31st, but I bet in the offseason. Most likely to the Yankees.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) I noticed today, Fields has almost the same numbers as Iguchi, and in less than half the time. Fields: .252, 5 HR, 18 HR, 31 Games Gooch: .253, 5 HR, 24 RBI, 75 Games Not poopin' on your parade, but Fields is in more of an RBI role. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.
  9. Honestly, I don't give a crap if he had an air-tight alibi. I could care less if he was absolutely ruled out of ANY wrongdoing. There is NO WAY she should have been at his house, with her kids, at a pool party, in a bikini. The point is, as a journalist, you CANNOT be part of the story. You have to keep objectivity. And being there in a casual fashion won't do that. Sleeping together, not sleeping together, doesn't matter. She is now part of the story, like Marion Brooks and the former mayor of Atlanta. And, if a guy did this, I would HOPE that he would be fired as well, although I think it would be a "quiet suspension."
  10. Let me drop this question on you very smart people here at Soxtalk. I was thinking about A-Rod possibly getting $30 million/year and the White Sox. We all know Reinsdorf loves to win. We all know Reinsdorf loves baseball. And we all know that the Board is fiscally...um...well, responsible. BUT, Reinsdorf gave $33 mil and $36 mil to arguably the best player to ever play in the NBA, Michael Jordan. Granted, he was a lifetime Bull at the time and made the Bulls internationally famous, but he doled out the cash. NOW, with A-Rod being, arguably, the best player in MLB, do you think there's a chance that Reinsdorf and the Board shell out the cash again? Again, I understand MJ helped BUILD the Bulls and was being rewarded. But, A-Rod would instantly put the Sox on the MLB map AND Reinsdorf's first love is baseball AND I think he might like to stick it to NY, just because he's from there. There is also the Boras factor. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I think there's a good chance, if A-Rod hits the open market, that the Sox will make a play for him, EVEN at $30 mil/year. Flame on.
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) If only we were better than the three teams in front of us... If I had to pick a team in front of us to stumble it would be the tribe. I think it's going to be the Tigers. I think the long 2006 is going to catch up with their power pitchers and players like I-Rod, Guillen and Polanco will come back down to Earth a little. JMHO.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Rumor has it she's been fired. If she is divorced her ex potentially has a hell of a custody issue You said it, sister! Even if she's NOT divorced, it's probably going to happen soon.
  13. C'mon Steff...saying Jewels is what reminds me of home!!! *tear* I miss it. Anyway, I'm going to go the opposite way and say what I love to hear: "With all due respect..." Why? Because when someone, usually me, says that, there's no respect AT ALL due to the person I'm speaking to, and yet, I'm covering my ass. I wub using that line. Makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 09:30 AM) Contreras' era is like 2 runs higher than those guys right now. Those 3 are also in the prime's of their careers while JC is clearly declining and his stuff is no where near what it was. It didn't look awful when we signed him to it but I don't want 20 million dollars of a 5 era pitcher on my team. True, but this league is all about "proven winners" which Contreras, like it or not, is. There are always GMs out there that think a pitcher like The Count can help them. And we all know that he can pick up his game in big games. Seems to be a Cuban trait, Livan, El Duque and the Count have proven track records in the playoffs and World Series. And before someone goes out and starts checking ERAs and the like, people tend to remember the good stuff more than the bad, unless the bad was a total and absolute collapse.
  15. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 11, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) It's pointless to move Dye because of his low value, but there is a huge point in trading Contreras and his horrible contract, even if all he brings back is peanuts. Horrible contract? He's making less than Buehrle, Garland AND Javy. That will continue throughout the length of the contract. It will either be less or about the same as the others. Considering the market, and when they signed him to the extension, it's not a bad contract.
  16. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) I would guess around 5/90...which is fine because that means there will be no doubt about the Sox inability to sign him if he had become a free agent. Not to mention the last line of the article where it basically says Ichiro wanted to stay on a coast.
  17. Not only CAN she be this stupid...she IS this stupid. Forget the person of interest angle...she has just made HERSELF news...which is probably the biggest no-no in journalism. I wonder who tipped off Channel 2...?
  18. If Joe can play in Spring Training next year...hit a little, field a little, not get hurt, he'll be gone by opening day.
  19. Holliday...just to be different.
  20. KA-BOOM!!!! (That means...blow 'er up!)
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) I would be all for him, a vet signing, plus a youngster in our outfield. We still would need a top of the order hitter though (as I assume the Sox would use him a bit lower in the order based upon his power, plus the fact that I'm sure there would be an adjustment period when he came over to the majors). What about Michael Bourn? Seems to be just what Ozzie would want.
  22. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) KW, just yesterday, committed to retooling instead of rebuilding. If he trades Javy or Jon then he is essentially changing his mind again and looking at rebuilding. He has to trade Contreras obviously. He's worth nowhere near $10M. The other pitchers are all worth their contracts and are arguably worth more than their contracts. There's no way you deal any of them. With KW's failure this past offseason in filling the LF, CF, SS, and BP holes, there's no way, imo, we're going to contend next season. Now he's looking at having to fill all of the above plus 2B, 3B, and RF. I mean the only positions he's really got locked up with good talent are 4/5 of the rotation, 1B, and C. Looking at it from that perspective then, yes, Javy and Jon would both be traded to fill some of those holes. But now we're trying to "re-tool" again. This is a real mess and it all goes back to this past offseason. Not if he can get a major league ready pitcher for Javy or Jon...or Contreras for that matter.
  23. the Sox are going to have to be careful with the Iguchi situation. They have built up good will with Shingo, who loved playing here and Iguchi...so, they have to at least get Iguchi to a decent team. ONe that he would like to go to or one with a large Japanese population (West Coast) if they can. I'd take him, Michael Bourn out of Philly and one of Sweeney/Anderson for our outfield next year.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) What would the Dbacks want along with Iguchi to get rid of Hudson? I'd assume it would be something that helped there major league club. Would they be looking for a reliever or another starter? Jose Contreras and Iguchi for Hudson and Quentin would be a winning idea as far as I'm concerned. Quentin got sent back down but he has some nice power potential and very good tools and is pretty much major league ready. How about Contreras and Uribe for Hudson and Quentin? I think I'd rather keep Iguchi and get more for him.
  25. No way the White Sox sign JD. The difference between JD and Carlos Lee is that Caballo has been going up or been steady. JD is declining. I love JD and he will always have a place in my heart as the WS MVP...but it's time to move on. I'd love to see an outfield of Sweeney, Bourn and the Japanese guy that I can't think of his name right now.
