  1. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) These are the realistic moves i could see the sox making. Garland to the dodgers for Furcal and Tony Abreu. Furcal is having a down year and isn't worth 13mil maybe 7-9 tops. Furcal fills the speedy lead off hitter and has great defense at SS, we bite the bullet on the contract, possibly even extend him around the ASB. Abreu has worn out his welcome with the dodger FO seeing how his agent is none other than Boras. Abreu adds depth and talent incase Furcal leaves, or Richar doesn't pan out. that excerpt was taken from ladugout.com Chin Lung-Hu is ready to step into SS next season and the dodgers have 2B depth with Young who formally played 2B and DeWitt aside from Kent activating his 2008 option; its guaranteed with 550 plate appearances in 2007. Errrr...remember this is the White Sox we are talking about. They don't deal with Boras. That leaves Abreu off the table. Unless it's someone like A-Rod, the Sox almost definitely won't deal with a Boras client.
  2. For whoever said it, Owens can't be a supersub 4th OF because his arm is way too weak for RF. Dye every day and twice on Sunday because when Big Jim is ready to retire or leaves the Sox, JD slips in as your DH. He can also back-up Konerko at 1B. Rowand in another year or two will be a LF which the team doesn't need as much as a CF. Mostly because he's not going to be fast enough to catch up on the bad reads. Finally, just because Buehrle said Kenny is going to go after big names doesn't mean he's going to get them. And before you start bashing me for that, any GM can say that...all you have to do is make an offer.
  3. To get back to Owens, Richar and Sweeney for a quick second, if he can learn how to bunt effectively...that will open up the field for him. Bring the corners in and then slap it over them. I'm not saying he's going to be a .400 OBP guy, but I think he can get to .350. Richar is going to learn a LOT in the last two months of this season, which is great for the Sox...see where they are with him. Sweeney probably has one more chance to get to the bigs next ST. And then it's time to think about the next in line. Finally, yeah fathom, think about the Yankees or Boston and their talent. Think about how they brought up Cano, Pedroia, Melky, Youkilis, Jeter, Posada, etc. I'm certainly not comparing the White Sox current rookies with those players, but they brought them up and let them be and they turned into plus to plus-plus major leaguers. At some point, you have to give them a shot.
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) I wonder where the scholorship is from? I am a little confused. Jamar Smith, I would imagine.
  5. Did you happen to get one of those e-greetings lately? It claims it's from someone you know or someplace you were, like a high school reunion? If you clicked on that, your computer may have downloaded a virus/software that could be the problem. How to fix? Not sure. Geek Squad???
  6. "HOLY COW!" RIP. Phil "The Scooter" Rizzuto
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) we agree. I was just focusing on the "member of...." part, which I do not believe a religious person needs to be. Then again, what does "member" mean. Do you really want to open yourself up to that??? I put myself in the Spiritual category...I'm Jewish by birth, not Bar Mitzphah'd, not practicing, but consider myself a Social Jew. Meaning, I consider myself Jewish as part of my overall self, but I don't necessarily believe in the religious part of it, the Old Testament. It's a Jew thing...you wouldn't understand.
  8. What's the word on Verdell Jones? Still leaning towards Kansas? Anyone know?
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 09:37 PM) Suggs will commit to Illinois. Is there a source or is that your gut opinion?
  10. I'm certainly not a big fan of the guy...but you have to admit this...whatever he is asked to do, he gets it done. May not like they way he does it, but he does it, you betcha! He has changed the face of American Politics. I think, for the worse, but we'll see.
  11. Ok, they are losers. Now give me your seats.
  12. It's Monday...does that mean this is dead and we have Pods for the rest of the year? Or do they have until the end of today?
  13. QUOTE(Soxy @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 09:22 AM) I guess, that I in some ways I am envious of christians who can spend so much time worrying about other people's lives; I have to spend most of my time trying make sure that I am righteous and I haven't time to make sure everyone else is. Maybe someday I'll become that good so I can spend all my time looking for the faults in others rather than myself. . . Yeah...good luck with aaaaaaallllllllll that.
  14. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Why does Murton have to clear waivers? The Cubs didn't put him on waivers...the Sox put Pods there and by rule the Cubs can now acquire Pods since no one else claimed him. I never heard that the player traded for the waived player also has to clear waivers. If he didn't have to be put on waivers, then what's the point of the waiver deadline at all?
  15. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) He would have to clear waivers up to at least the Sox, which is unlikely. Just out of curiousity...could they trade him for a PTBNL...wait 'til the offseason...and then have Murton, or anyone who didn't make it through waivers, be that player? Or is that not possible?
  16. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) It was all PR. The owners read how much the average Joe fan liked Byrnes so they undercut the GM Josh Byrnes and made this deal. And because they're brothers.
  17. Too bad he won't bat. I don't mind the DH rule...except in situations like this.
  18. And Victor Martinez has improved dramatically in throwing out basestealers this year.
  19. If you have a question you want answered...ask her. If you don't care...don't ask. You see, the thing about ignoring someone is it is an active act. You have to think about ignoring and then you are constantly thinking if the ignoring works. I'm not saying be aloof, but...well, be aloof. Basically, s*** or get off the pot my man.
  20. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Yes you were. Good news though. In hell the drinks are free and they have a beer volcano. Unfortunately, the beer is warm. Well, hot, actually. RIP WWN...you treated me well. I hear Bat Boy and the world's largest baby are now sharing a duplex outside Kalamazoo.
  21. About 40-50 kids from my high school went to U of I and the one thing I DIDN'T want to do was hang out with them only. And I didn't. Whatever you want to do, you will find people who like to do that too. Quick story...I met a guy from West Frankfurt, IL...total hick town. When I met him, he had a mullet, cheesy mustache, wore flannels, looked like he came right off the farm. I would call him redneck and he would call me preppie. By the time he was a junior, he was the COMPLETE opposite. He cut his hair, shaved his mustache, wore whatever was in style at the time (which, ironically, was flannel since it was the early 90's), but he wore Polo shirts. He pulled a complete 180. I'm not saying he wanted to, but he did. As someone said earlier, you change A LOT from 18 to 22. Good luck to all in College...I'm jealous. Tex, Kap...we're old.
  22. Could you imagine batting against Wasserman in one at bat and then Myers in the next at bat. Then maybe Haeger and THEN Jenks? Yikes, that would mess up any hitters timing.
  23. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) C AJ DH Thome 1B Konerko 2B Richar SS Cintron? Gonzalez? Ozuna(playing 2B with Richar moving to SS)? 3B Crede LF Fields CF Rowand RF Dye The one problem is that the offseason doesn't address the need at SS or leadoff hitter. In my scenario, the Sox would let Crede show that he is healthy and trade him midseason to either LAA or LAD for one of their SS prospects(I would prefer Hu from the Dodgers). After trading Crede the Sox would move Fields to 3B, Hu(or Aybar) to SS, and either Owens or Sweeney to LF(Owens likely getting first crack). The trade will also give the Sox a couple of options for the leadoff spot(Hu/Aybar or Owens/Sweeney). I really like the Sox lineup after moving Crede. C Hall IF Cintron IF/OF Ozuna OF Owens I like your rotation and your bullpen but, you just made this team SLOWER! We can't have that. Richar is fast, but not base stealing fast, from what I've read. Rowand isn't fast and then...that's it. I hate to say this, but Owens might be our starting CF next year. And I have a feeling KW will go out and get a speedy shortstop. Then you have Owens, new SS and Richar. That's more like what Ozzie wants for a team.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Neither guy has to get through waivers, just to the Sox. Still wont happen but it's a major difference. Well, that's what I meant. Getting through waivers to the Sox. SHEESH!
  25. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) Oh, and Danks has a no-hitter through four. His changeup has been filthy. Discuss! Way to go, Jinxie Jinxerton!
