Juice didn't kick into high gear in High school until his Junior year. He's been serviceable the last two years in the passing game, this year is worse than last, but I think it's just a matter of confidence in his receiving core. They are all going to grow together, McGee included, and with that growth should come better results. I would LOVE 8-4. In fact, I would LOVE 7-5. Just the fact that this team won a couple of Big Ten games gets my teeth a-chatterin'. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) Link, scoll to bottom past the Ozzieball stuff. It wasn't a harsh thing or anything, just reality (don't want to make it seem like they were upset with him or something). Agreed. It's got to be for security, not out of spite. I hope he gets the job for his sake, but hope he doesn't for the White Sox sake.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Teams survive on the hometown fanatics. Vegas is too much tourism. San Antonio has done well in supporting the Spurs, through thick and slightly less thick. I'm not certain about the San Antonio / McAllen reference. McAllen is 4 hours from San Antonio and I'm not certain how that would fit in. San Antonio would only work if a stadium was built between there and Austin. Like New Braunfels or San Marcos. But I don't think Tom Hicks and Drayton McClane will allow it. I think Portland is probably the best bet outside of Fremont.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 23, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I really hope they end up moving to Fremont. It would suck to see a team with so much history move out of Oakland Part of that history was in Philadelphia and Kansas City...sooooo, moving is part of the history.

And if you saw Wedge's reaction, you can't blame him for Joel Skinner's decision. I think, and I'm speculating here, that Skinner thought it bounced off that wall harder than it actually did. Lofton was watching the play, he shoulda run through the sign. But, you know what, the way the Sawx were hitting last night, I think they still woulda won. JMHO.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 21, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) I despise that kind of quote from kids. If you feel that way, fine, but don't express it in an interview. I agree. If you want to take more visits, fine. But, don't commit at all. I guess he wants to be sure he has a spot just in case something happens. The Zooker keeps rolling along...now about those penalties......... -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 06:39 AM) I'll agree the hype is a bit much. Unfortunately, the egg your Buckeyes laid in the big game last year hasn't helped. The gap between them and other conferences is not that great. But there is a gap. Funny thing is down here, they don't think they get enough credit, which I just find to be completely idiotic. Well, that's the thing about all the major conferences. Here in Texas, people thing the Big 12 is the end all-be all. F'rinstance, Texas is down? Yeah, but Kansas is undefeated. Uhhhh...yeah, who have they beaten...Kansas State and that's it. So, they all think that which is part of what makes college football fun. -

You have to compare top to bottom. This year...LSU, Kentucky and South Carolina are all 6-1. Ohio State could give SC and Kentucky a game of it. Maybe Michigan could beat SC and Illinois isn't close to beating any of those teams yet. Kentucky is MUCH better and as long as the Ol' Ball Coach is at SC, they are dangerous. Alright, now let's go to the bottom. Compare Minnesota, Iowa, MSU and Purdue to Vandy, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Miss. State. Minnesota and Iowa and Miss. State and Ole Miss knock each other out. So that leaves MSU and Purdue to Ark and Vandy. After seeing Arkansas and Vandy play...I'd give them the edge over MSU and Purdue, but not by much. Personally I think the SEC is much better at the top of the league but only slightly better at the bottom. Obviously, this anyone could win on any given Saturday, but I'd take most SEC teams over most Big Ten teams. And I'm a Big Ten homer... -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) I don't mean to put it on you, but this is anything but minor. It's as bad as you can get, committing the same violations are already on probation for. And the "I didn't know" defense on top of it. It's bush league. I'm not going to call for his head, but he would be on a very thin rope. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Well geez, don't people understand to take my posts for what I mean, not what I type??? I can see how it would be interpreted that way. I did indeed from the beginning mean that Illinois will not with both of their next two games. However, it is very possible at this point, my original statement may be correct regardless of how you interpret it. I just hope Michigan plays with purpose and doesn't get cocky after thrashing Purdue and seeing Illinois lose to Iowa. Not sure what we will get out of Hart either. As soon as I doubt him, he'll run for 187 yards on 32 carries. I'm okay opening things up less and giving Hart less carries, while also allowing Carlos Brown to pick up 10-12 carries to lighten the load. Playing at night on the road is not Michigan's thing. They play zero home night games, so the game time itself is a change in routine. My prediction: Michigan 34 Illinois 23 If Hart can't play...and Minor is still dinged up...its going to be closer than that. In fact, I think Zook is going to get his time nice and fired up for this game. I'd expect a similar score to Wisconsin's... Illinois 31, Michigan 26 -

Weber making a HUUUUUGE comeback on the recruiting trail. Nice job buddy. -
NFL players made the conscious choice to strike. The owners chose to keep their product going, no matter what the quality. Point-counterpoint. Marino has no right to be pissed at the scabs. If he's upset at anyone, he should be upset at the NFLPA for striking. Not that they shouldn't have, just that, they decided that was the ONLY was to make a point. OK...you made it. And the owners made theirs. End of story.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) Not Jones. He's not half the CF he used to be. He's gotten lazy or something. Agreed. And I can't imagine the Twins will re-sign Hunter for 5/75. That's a lot of cash for a team that is going to have to think about locking up their youngsters REAL soon. If they do, Nathan is probably gone. Which for a team built on pitching...thatsa no good.

Very good points, doc. I would also add this...in everything that I've read about Juice coming out of high school, he didn't click til his junior season. Even Juice will say that himself. I think he's improving and maybe he can relax a little with McGee as a more than capable back up. I'm not willing to go one-for-one on the series either. Juice is and should be our qb. He hasn't blown a game, McGee has saved a couple. And the Illini are so much improved, at this time, with the crap they've been throwing on the field the last couple of years, I'd take 6-6. Shoot, I'd take 5-7. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Iowa will pull the upset. Our defense will do a good job against the run and Christensen is actually gonna have a good game. And yes, this is me getting all dreamy cause I always predict wins over the Illini. It wouldn't surprise me. Who has the Illini beat on the road? Syracuse? Besides one win over an incredibly overrated Louisville team, they aren't much to write home about. If this game were in Champaign, I would choose the Illini, but since it's in the IC, it's gonna be tough. REAL tough. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Great move by the Sox. Agreed! I always liked Buddy Bell and liked the way he played the game. Good move.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) I didnt really think Griese looked that much better than Grossman, seems the OL is doing a better job of not letting free players wreck our QB, and now that Olsen is playing its giving the QB another big target. When Griese floats a ball, I always just have to wonder, could Rex have done it slightly better. You know why Griese looked better, because he found Clark on that clinching touchdown. I don't think he was the primary receiver or first choice, but he found him over the top and look what happened. Maybe Grossman could get to that point at some point, but he's not there, for whatever reason. Griese can and the Bears won. But you are right about the OL, too.

Eckstein...by a long shot. I love Uribe and what he has done for the White Sox, but Eckstein is the kind of guy that can put a team on his back. Not with offense or defense but with intangibles. He's the kinda guy that will get Vina'd or Burke'd and not take it lightly. He'll get the big hit, he'll steal the big base and he puts the ball in play. Uribe is done. The only way I re-sign Uribe is to decline his option, sign him for less but give him lots of incentive clauses (weight, GG, hitting, etc.). But that's just me.

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) That's going to get some people riled up. I see where you're going. The Sox had 1.5 good years in the past 3, and the 3 good halves of baseball all happened together while the lastyear and a half has been torture. Bob That's very true, but very short-sighted. Look at Detroit this year. they had 2006 white Sox syndrome. The Sox have been competitive, frustrating, but competitive for the last 10 or so years. I think that's a pretty good run. Of course, you can argue that the AL Central wasn't good. Fine. There's always an argument for and against in baseball and that's what makes it fun. But, to write off a year before the year has even started is silly and short-sighted.
